Digital Be-In 13

This unique meeting of the techno savvy and socially conscious will feature speakers, exhibits, art installations, live music and DJs. The original Human Be-In was held on January 14, 1967 in Golden Gate Park to unite the Haight Ashbury hippies and the Berkeley radicals in protest against the Vietnam War. The Digital Be-Ins began in the 90s. The aim of the original Digital Be-Ins were to bring human characteristics of spirituality and love to the cold, impersonal Digital Age. Speakers at this year's extravaganza include Vinit Allen, Kevin Bankston, Swami Beyondananda, and RAM DASS! Live performers include Alcyone, Bluetech, and Cybervixen and the roster of DJs includes Dov, Goz, KJ, Ooah, Phutureprimitive, Rob Rayle, Shakatura, Space Cowboys and Dr. Spook.  With so many issues to talk about and an impressive list of DJs to hear, this party will be one part philosophical debate and one part wild party. Campaign Kickoff
If there is one thing we need in our local politicians it's honesty, vision and...the ability to run a night club? Michel O'Connor, former owner of the Justice League and co-owner of new music hotspot, The Independent will be kicking off his campaign for San Francisco's District 5 Supervisor seat. District 5 covers a wide area including the Haight, Hayes, Sunset, Fillmore, Western Edition and more. But even if you don't live there, having Michael O'Connor as Supervisor will benefit San Francisco's entire art and entertainment scene and he is supported by some key players evident by the impressive lineup this Thursday. The night starts off with Jazz by Kenny Brooks and Marcus Shelby followed by DJs Pause, Joshua (Iz), Rueben,Bing Ji Ling and many more. FashionScape2004
Fashion shows are a dime a dozen these days and there's a benefit every week. Why should you attend this one?  Because Fashionscape2004 will benefit a cause you don't hear too much about. Three SF organizations will benefit that assist in preventative, during and aftercare of teenagers being exploited by the sex trade. It's estimated that there are as many as 7,000 adolescent girls in prostitution in the Bay Area.  The three organizations benefiting from Fashionscape are Covenant House California, Take Wings Foundation, and the Coalition to End the Exploitation of Kids. MIX 2004: Creativity & Community
Looking for an eclectic night of charitable giving, good eating, shopping and dancing? Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the A&PI Wellness Center team up to bring you an evening of fundraising, delicious food, a fashion show, silent auction and a wild night of dancing.  Roy's, Straits Café, and Koi Palace are donating delectable hors d'oeuvres.  Silk Road will host a fusion fashion show featuring hand-painted vests and wood-block imagery.  Musical entertainment will be provided by DJ St. John of WILD 94.9 fame.  All funds raised will benefit the A&PI Wellness Center, which educates, supports, empowers, and advocates for Asian and Pacific Islander communities, particularly A&PIs living with or at-risk for HIV/AIDS. Winos On Wheels!
Everyone's favorite music-genius-wino, Toph One is taking part in the SF to LA AIDS Lifecycle Ride which raises funds to treat and prevent the killer disease. Saturday's party at Milk is in support of Toph and all 1500 bikeriders taking part in the seven day ride on June 6th. The incredible line-up brought to you by RedWine includes Toph One, DJ Pause, Consuelo and special guests, JBoogie, DJ Black, and Mr. E. Prozack from Foreign Legion is performing live.
