Indian
Summer means one thing for SF party people: camp-outs,
outdoor parties and music & art festivals are popping
up quicker than Fall sales on sandals. In this issue
Nitevibe features two stories with two of America's
top party leaders (and I don't mean Howard Dean and
George Bush). I'm talking about Chris Dekker, founder
of Earthdance,
and Sason, founder of Cyberfest.
Can you imagine hosting a party for 20,000? That's like
a small city! What about throwing a party in 130 cities
at the same time? Neither could we, so naturally we
had some questions for these two mega-promoters. (JP)
Earthdance
- Biggest Party In The World
What
celebration takes place in 130 cities in 50 countries
around the world at the same time? No...not Christmas,
it's Earthdance
and the music is significantly better than your
average holiday carol. The outdoor festival also
called the "United Beats of Peace Festival"
has been likened to "Live Aid with dance music"
because proceeds are donated to charities in each
region. This year the Nor. Cal. campout is 3 hrs.
north of SF. Highlights include Sound Tribe Sector
9, The Coup, Spearhead, Lost at Last, Medicine Drum
and about fifty other music acts from hip-hop to
house. In addition to the 3 musical stages, there
will also be a bar, an eco-activist film fest, tea
house, kids village, performance artists and other
innovative attractions that make your trip to Yellowstone
last year look boring. Date: Fri.
19th-Sun. 21st, Time: Fri. 12pm
- Monday 12pm, Place: Black Oak

Cyberfest
2003
It's
been voted the biggest party in the world at Miami's
Winter Music Conference. It's been cumulatively
attended by over a million people. It consistently
boasts a lineup of the most popular Djs, musicians,
and hip-hop artists in the world. It's Cyberfest,
and it's coming to SF, right where it all started
12 years ago. Besides the five massive musical arenas,
amusements, extreme sports and thousands of attendees,
the event will feature performances by over 60 world-class
artists, including the Hieroglyphics crew, Phaorahe
Monch, Doc Martin, Dieselboy, Miguel Migs, Mixmaster
Mike, Rap, Christopher Lawrence, D:Fuse, Planet
B and Jesse Saunders, to name a few. Why does this
event shine so much brighter than the rest? We had
a chance to sit down with it's founder Sason, to
get a an inside perspective on this spectacularly
grandiose affair. Date: Saturday,
September 20, 2003, Time: 4pm,

RESFEST
2003
Resfest is San Francisco's own multi-media festival
where innovative film, music, art, design, and technology
converge into one massive artsy celebration. Resfest
showcases the year's most innovative short films in
addition to live music events, parties and guest
speakers on the calendar. Last year's event hosted
an impressive display of videos for electronic music
artists--the ones you don't see on MTV--and a slew
of other music related projects. This festival,
now in its seventh year, is getting larger
and more interesting each time. SF is the first
stop on the international tour. Date:
