Honey Soundsystem 10Yr Anniv.
Honey Soundsystem is celebrating a big one: TEN YEARS. It's hard to believe that our favorite SF traditions is turning double digits — they still feel so young. But the crew behind this now iconic name are indeed growing older, and the scene that they've created around them is growing bigger. With influences seen as far as New York, Pittsburgh, and of course Berlin, their underground-style gay parties with a focus on acceptance, hedonism, and gay history without leaving behind aesthetic tastes in pounding techno and dark disco. Tonight they're celebrating with a TEN HOUR (one for each year, duh) party (although it has to start at 6pm, because SF). The event is filling each hour to the brim with a completely all-star lineup that always feels like a cherry on top when you're already so excited just to see the residents. They'll have Danny Daze, whose sound has travelled far leftfield from his Hot Creations beginnings to starting his own electro techno label, Omnidisc, and putting out new releases on Michael Mayer's inimitable Kompakt label. Other high flyers are Octo Octa, the New York City fave and trans artist whose ethos and ideologies line up with the Honey spirit and whose newest full-length album was produced by HNYTRX, the label output from Honey themselves and whose message has been explicitly stated as being "overtly queer". The event will also feature the SF debut of Dutch duo Beesmunt Soundsystem, another artist with releases on Honey's label, Smart Bar resident Eris Drew, SF debut of NY-based Justin Cudmore, a special old school rave set from Kim Ann Foxman, a live set from TWINS, and of course, your Honey residents: Josh Cheon, Bézier, Jackie House, and Jason Kendig. Yep, that's ten artists, one for each year. This is completely unmissable for anyone who considers themselves a part of the Honey family — which you should if you know what's good for you. Here's to another ten! Date: Saturday, November 11, Time: 6pm-4am, Place: Public Works, Cover: $40, More Info (ML)
