Nitevibe Buzz

Gathering of the Tribes
You thought the anniversary of the Summer of Love and the Human Be-In was over now that the official summer is over. Think again! To celebrate the San Francisco and Oakland psychedelic art movements of both yesterday and today. This is an event by the SF Great Society, a collection of local artists and musicians. An opportunity for these artists to share ideas and add new ones to the local vernacular. Highlights of the twelve hour party (enough time to get some real droppin' in) include sets from Down Dirty Shake, Mayya & The Revolutionary Hell Yeahs, Loco Tranquilo, and so many more. These bands, not comprised of musicians that are not as aging as your dad's favorite Grateful Dead t-shirt, show that the heady, hippie sound of the 60s can continue to be a cultural catalyst for an endlessly creative class of people. So tune in. Date: Saturday, October 22, Time: noon-1am, Place: Public Works, Cover: $15, More Info (ML)

Flyer Of The Week
Our flyer of the week is for Questlove this Fri @ The Midway

Link Of The Week
Gravity: "The gravity of all that is ... there is an enormity to it and it can be buoyant, it can be painful, it can be exalting. If we take the expression of how we feel individually as we travel along this life. And we gather it all up, and press it thru our own filter and express it out the other side, I think that is where poetry lives." Here

Music: Detroit techno, house, tech-house, acid
Cover: no cover b4 10pm w/RSVP, $5 presale on RA, $10 otherwise

It seems either like just yesterday or another millennium ago that Housepitality first opened its doors as the midweek industry and friends party for a solid night of raving with solid artists visiting from outside the Bay while also highlighting our friends and heroes right here in town. The event has grown into a pure San Francisco classic, practically creating a community right in front of our eyes and underneath our feet. It was on the Housepit dance floor that your humble writer met some of her dearest friends, lovers, and even a couple of kindly strangers. Tonight, all the residents of Housepitality will take to the back room for an acid takeover while Detroit legend brings it to the front room for a full night (after resident Fil Latorre's opener) of his jazzy, classic sound. Celebrate with your crew for this night to remember. Happy anniversary, Housepitality. (ML)

Music: house, tech-house

Zero f*cks given – some would argue that's the mantra when it comes to the Cut Snake way of life. "It's about enjoying the moment and having a great time," Paul "Fish" Fisher explains of his group with Leigh "Sedz". The guys coin an atmospheric and deep-leaning sound that's suited to no one particular environment. As Fish tells it, "you should be able to enjoy it everywhere." Mates since childhood, Cut Snake grew up on the Gold Coast of Australia; surfing professionally and competing against each other from the time they were 12. In this time, they developed the hilarious banter and incredible dynamic that is still prevalent in interviews and on stage. The guys got into dance music while they were touring the world for surf contests and quickly grew passionate about the underground scenes from each country they visited.
