Link Of The Week
Wanderlust: Plose : In Summer 2017 we spent a week on Plose, a mountain in South Tyrol, Italy hiking. The landscape there is simply stunning as you have a perfect view of the Dolomites, a magical little lake with perfect reflections of the mountains surrounding it and lots of little Austrian/Italian villages on your way up to this beautiful mountain. The people there couldn't have been nicer showing us their working methods and serving us their best local foods of the region. Here

Event: Housepitality x Bubbles Vigil
Venue: F8
DJs: Alland Bayalo, Joel Conway, Tobin Ellsworth
Music: house, techno
Cover: no cover w/ RSVP before 10, then $10

It could have been another Wednesday night at the House Pit, although of course one celebrating the birthdays of Tobin and Joel as well as a set from Kontrol mind Alland Bayallo. It would have been, indeed, a celebration. However, this weekend has taken yet another tragic toll on our community as the true one-of-a-kind-in-our-midst, Bubbles, was taken from us in a senseless and utterly heartbreaking way. Bubbles was a true character, known to all in our community and beyond. You couldn't have come to Housepitality all that many times if you didn't at least know who Bubbles was. As one of his favorite places to exist in life, we shall return to honor him in death with an 11:30pm moment of silence (a rarity for this music-based community) to honor his soul, his spirit, and to remember the lessons that he taught us all. Then we shall carry on to shut up and dance like no one and everyone is watching. The way Bubbles would have wanted. (ML)

Event: On the Road to the Dirtybird Campout
Venue: The Great Northern
DJs: Justin Martin (extended set), DJ M3
Music: house (tech, disco, deep), dnb, electro
Cover: $10-15
Producer and DJ Justin Martin gets behind the 1s and 2s at The Great Northern this Thursday for a deliciously long set. If you've been lucky to catch him as of late, these long sets are becoming the norm, especially with a DJ that has such a plethora of melodic, banging tracks. He was involved with the development of dirtybird records, so it's no wonder he's part of this event. He's reached international fandom, playing all over the US, Europe and beyond. Joining him will be M3, who'll throw down the funky beat in support. Can't make it to the Dirtybird Campout, then this the next best thing to satiate your Justin Martin craving. Need more of a reason to come out? A portion of the night's proceeds will be donated to Americares, a nonprofit organization for Hurricane Relief in the US and surrounding countries to help with the natural disasters as of late. For some time now the combined forces of Mark Caramelli & Paul Hargreaves have been causing quite a stir under their guise, Death on the Balcony. Their style fuses a range of influences from Disco through to House & Deep Techno depending on the time, space and environment. Years of dedicated musical passion and an appreciation of numerous genres have lead to their sound receiving popularity across the board. Event: Alter Ego presents: Wolf + Lamb & Soul Clap- All night long
Venue: The Great Northern
DJs: Wolf + Lamb, Soul Clap, Joel Conway, Alvaro Z
Music: house with hip-hop, rap, pop, r&b, indie influences, techno, disco
Cover: $15-20
This Saturday, Alter Ego presents a night of Wolf + Lamb and Soul Clap throwing down beats all evening long. New York's own Wolf + Lamb, a duo comprised of Zev Eisenberg and Gadi Misrahi, bring their fun and energetic set to the Bay. House aficionados and hip-hop lover extraordinares, these two show what passionate music truly is, which led to their beginning of their label of the same name, Wolf + Lamb. These guys want to move your heart as well as your feet. Also on deck is Soul Clap, a fellow labelmate duo hailing from Boston that tends to tour alongside Wolf + Lamb. These guys established a sound inspired as much by pop, soul and r&b, as much as it was by house music, and they want to share it with you! Also, a portion of the night's proceeds will go to Compute For Cancer, an app that takes unused computer/phone power to help fund cancer research, all while you sleep. (CQ)

Event: Matthew Dear
Venue: Audio
DJs: Matthew Dear, Alex Sibley, Pedro Arbulu
Music: electro beats, techno, house, indie
Cover: $10 presale
Depending on whom you ask, Matthew Dear is a DJ, a dance-music producer, an experimental pop artist, a bandleader. He co-founded both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He's had remixes commissioned by The XX, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Spoon, Hot Chip, The Postal Service, and Chemical Brothers; he's made mixes for the Fabric mix series and Get Physical's Body Language. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none—and he's just hitting his stride.

Event: Mayer Hawthorne
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Mayer Hawthorne (DJ Set), Gordo Cabeza
Music: house, hip-hop, rap beats
Cover: $22 presale
Mayer DJed in Michigan at the height of Detroit hip-hop. He was there. Before Em blew, when Dilla was still alive. He was spinning records and making rap beats. Now he's making soul records and rappers are sampling him. Circle of life. Mayer's been digging in the crates and you can hear the influences in his music. A touch of Shuggie Otis here, some Bob Marley there, a sprinkle of Sly Stone. On his fourth full-length album, due out this spring, Hawthorne is back to handling the lion's share of production. He also played damn near every instrument on the album and penned every track. His songwriting pulls from his life and observations; his heartache and joy. Sometimes it's groovy, other times he's vulnerable and sincere.

Event: Nocturnal Code, w/ Barbuto
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Barbuto, Lisa Rose, Bairfro, Shane Fontane, Jill McDonald

Weaving crowds in and out between moments of deep, infectious groove to minimal modulation, his signature DJ sets keep audiences transfixed for hours upon end.

Event: Gigamesh
Venue: The Independent
DJs: Gigamesh
Music: funk, disco, pop, house
Cover: $15 presale
Gigamesh is the stage name of Matt Masurka, an American multi-platinum selling music producer and DJ. Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, it's no surprise Gigamesh has developed a keen taste for funk, disco and pop. The sound is immediately recognizable in much of his music, however he maintains a flexible aesthetic. Gigamesh is an ardent fan of minimalist concert music, film scores, classic rock, italo disco, French house, Miami bass, and genre-bending electronic music. These elements have all combined to forge his all-inclusive approach to music appreciation and creation.

Event: Mixed Forms: 02
Venue: The Stud
DJs: Chris Cruse, Tyrel Williams, Trevor Sigler, Jordee
Music: techno, tech-house, disco
Cover: $10 and up
Mixed Forms is a new party night that is combining a number of different communities from the SF underground, house and techno, queer and straight, and everything under the sun — so long as it is inclusive, accepting, and dedicated to creating a more together and open space in SF nightlife. Oh, and also having a really great dance. The collaborators are bringing Chris Cruse from LA as tonight's headliner. As the head of Spotlight, LA's leading queer techno underground party, he's been bringing his disco-inflected house and techno to LA but also New York, Berghain, heck, even Coachella. Joining will be local Housepitality resident Tyrel Williams, alongside local Trevor Sigler who has played with Honey Soundsystem themselves, and newly minted Mixed Forms resident Jordee. This sound, and the revolutionary and subversive behavior that it incurs, bring us together tonight in our shared beliefs and also in our favorite belief: that of dance. Note: A portion of tonight's proceeds will go to Bubbles' Memorial Fund. (ML)

Event: Mystopia presents: Forest Creatures (Benefitting Tree of Tenére)
Venue: The Midway
DJs: Mark O'Brien, Ethical Drugs, Traaven, Captn Jay, Jessica Stanell, Bradley P, DJ Brian
Music: house, disco, electro
Cover: $10-15
If you were at Burning Man this year there is no way that you don't remember the glorious, full-sized, seemingly moss-covered, climbing-possible tree lovingly known as the Tree of Tenere. Now that we're all back from the desert, a little less dusty for the wear, we're all decompressing and getting back to the default world as well as wrapping up projects from the desert. To offset some final costs for this large scale project, Mystopia is hosting a forest themed day-to-night party that will feature the tree itself as well as music from some of your favorite Playa-based and SF-based artists from the likes of Airpusher Collective, Glamcocks, Polyglamorous, Icarus, and Electroluxx. Dust off your forest floor best and get ready to dance your way up to the canopy. (ML)
