Burning Man 2017
BURNING MAN! Drag your head out from under whatever rock you're living under and that head under the dust. This is undoubtedly the most important event of the season for people who believe not just in a festival but a community. Burning Man is about more than what you do it becomes a part of who you are. We know that for most of us here at Nitevibe it is a part of who we are and a part of what we do all year long. Whether it is the outfits we wear, the music we listen to, the art we support, or the sexual-social beliefs we hold on to, Burning Man becomes a part of who you are. It all starts with the Ten Principles, some guiding ideas that facilitate the festival, Black Rock City (because it is a city), and the city's citizens. From radical self-reliiance to participation to leave no trace to radical inclusion and radical self-expression, it is these ideals that keep Burning Man the experience and culture that we have known and loved since its start on Ocean Beach with 20 participants in 1986 (over 40 years ago!). This year's theme is Radical Ritual and your favorite Bay Area troupes and camps are getting all their thangs out to the desert to make it special for you. You've been hearing about them all year whether it's Airpusher Collective, Pink Mammoth, Dusty Rhino, Flaming Lotus Girls with their Noetica sculpture, Opulent Temple, Disco Knights in their last year on the Playa, Mayan Dragon, Robot Heart, and more. There's performances including an on-Playa ballet performance of Stravinsky's The Rites of Spring as well as performances from Fou Fou Ha, and a return of the 747 art car. Don't make us say more, just get yourself radically prepared and get yourself on the long dusty road. Date: Sunday, August 27 - Tuesday, September 5, Time: gates open at 12:01am, Place: Black Rock City, NV, Cover: Tickets are sold out, More Info (ML)

One of the original turntablists, J. Rocc founded the Beat Junkies in 1992 with Melo-D and Rhettmatic, but has done just as much on his own as in a group setting. He began DJing in the mid-'80s with a California group named PSK. Event: Superfreq w/ David Scuba & Mr C
Venue: Halcyon
DJs: Mr C, David Scuba, Lick The DJ b2b Alex Windsor, Trev Campbell
Music: house, tech-house
Cover: $10-20 presale
Richard West aka Mr.C was born in London in the late 60's. He started MCing in London clubs aged only 16 & soon earned a reputation as a fast talking vivacious rapper working with LWR radio's Ron Tom, Jasper the Vinyl Junkie & Jazzy M. Mr.C then hooked up with Colin Faver & Evil Eddie Richards to become resident rapper at the legendary Camden Palace in London, going on to MC for Colin Faver on the then illegal pirate radio station Kiss FM. Mr.C went into the studio to record his 1st house track with Eddie Richards as Myster-E which was released in August 1987. This inspired Mr.C to become a DJ to learn more about his beloved House & Techno music so in late '87 Richard took to the decks. And the rest is History. Raised on a diet of underground house music in the legendary confines of New York's Twilo during the late 1990s, David Scuba is now coming into his own. At the same time as holding down an arduous day job, he has been an influential A&R for labels like Timeless Groove and Real Music Deal overseeing releases from numerous international names in the past. Now, though, his closest ties lie with the legendary MR C and the Superfreq label they run together.

Event: TLC vs. Destiny's Child

Cover: $10-15
Fans of hip-hop and r&b, has Public Works got the night for you! Featuring a night where two of our favorite girl groups go head to head, filling the dancefloor full of nostalgia as the 'club is jumpin', jumpin'. If you figured out that one of the groups is the 'bootylicious' Destiny's Child, you are right, my friend! Their tracks will be going up against another trio of badass women, but don't go calling them no 'silly ho' or 'sumethin' wicked this way comes,' or else TLC might have to 'creep' on your ass! In case you couldn't tell, I'm fond of both these groups, and could make puns using their song titles all day long, but how about you get down to Public Works for a little 'red light special' or to find yourself a 'soldier'?
