Outside Lands
The weekend is finally here when our fair city is flooded with visitors wishing to get a taste of the indie pop music festival pie. And why not, when the headliners are marketed just as much as Golden Gate Park itself (although the fog bank tends to be left out of the press releases). The festival celebrates its tenth year, a huge milestone that the festival is excited to celebrate. Aside from the usual (and San Francisco-typical) emphasis on the food and cocktail "lineups", we music lovers know that it is the big to small name artists that festoon the four stages that are the biggest draw. Nights on the big stages include rare appearances from huge stars. Metallica and The Who are the big throwback names, while the Gorillaz appear just in time to prepare for the release of their new album. R&B queen Solange will grace the stage, pop savant Lorde gears up for new album, and Empire of the Sun will continue to try to make people like at least one more song than Walking on a Dream. This year's Panhandle Stage looks to be the heart and soul of this year's electronic scene, with artists ranging from nu-R&B wunderkind SOHN, to remix master group RAC (short for the aptly-titled Remix Artist Collective), and 1015 frequenters Kaytranada and Thundercat. Arguably the biggest electronic name this year will be Above & Beyond, the English progressive trance trio that started the Anjunabeats label and could be considered the key arbiters of the meteoric rise of trance from smaller European raves to the dastardly EDM scene. Outside Lands is one of the biggest events in our city's year and regardless of who you are, how old you are, and what you listen to, you'll find something just for you. Just remember to BRING YOUR LAYERS. Date: Friday, August 11 - Sunday, August 13, Time: noon-10pm daily, Place: Golden Gate Park, Cover: $150 and up for one to three day passes, More Info (ML)

Sunset Soundsystem Boat Party
The Sunset crew has to be one of the hardest working crews around, always providing musical entertainment to the masses week after week. The Sunset campout was just a few weeks ago, but that hasn't slowed them down one bit. Case in point, this week is their annual Summer Sunset Boat Party around the bay. Revel in the night sky as you sail under the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, enjoying the musical stylings of some of your favorite DJs as you dance aboard the San Francisco Spirit. Your usual selectas, Galen, J-Bird and Solar are throwing down as per usual and together they welcome special guest, Rebolledo to the decks. Rebolledo hails from Mexico and incorporates his heritage in all his music. His DJ mixtape, aptly titled Momento (because of it's double meaning (moment or momentum) in Spanish), came out in 2014 and reminded listeners of the lost art that is CDs. Even though we live in a digital age, there is just something to be said about having an actual physical CD. He'll be joined behind the decks by a few other special guests, but you have to attend to find out who. And if you can't make the boat party, or perhaps aren't ready to end the night, head to Monarch for the afterparty, where Solar, Galen and WERD DJs Jimmy B, Zoz and Woo will drop the funky beats. Date: Sun Aug 13, Time: Boat party 5pm-11pm, Afterparty: 1030pm-late, Place: boat: The San Francisco Spirit, Pier 3, Afterparty: Monarch 101 6th St, Cover: boat: $55-65, Afterparty: $5 with boat ticket, $10 without, More Info (CQ)

Italian Techno producer, Luca Bacchetti grabs hold of Audio's massive Funktion One system this Friday. Luca Bacchetti is the first to admit it. Just as musical inspiration runs through his veins and is his very lifeblood, so too is a certain restlessness and a propensity for boredom for a singular musical output that accompanies it. There's simply too much music to draw from and too much beauty in life that inspires creative expression – whether it be from art or through travel, both of which he embraces with the same lust that accompanies his inspiring sonic shapeshifting career over the past decade.

Over the last two years Lee Curtiss has made a name for himself creating primal, exquisitely deep and emotional dance tracks that pulse with life, sex, and humour, incorporating countless influences and genres but beholden to none. With his broad shoulders, even wider grin and keen sense of humour, Lee may give off the straight-shooting air of a Midwestern woodsman, but he's got the ear, plain and simple. Lee Curtiss is an eccentric, an original, an innovator, a ten-year veteran of the electronic-music scene. His love of his craft shines through in his tracks' every bump and shudder.
