Burning for a Cure- Block Party
Various Bay Area crews have joined forces to bring you Burning for a Crew, a benefit for cancer research. Crews like Airpusher, Solid Gold Jacuzzi, Space Cowboys, Disco Knights, Distrikt, Opulent Temple and Disco Katz come together to raise money and awareness for a disease that is sadly all too prevalent in each and every one of our lives. Taking over the entire block of Utah Street in front of The Great Northern, this party features four stages full of bass bumping beats for your listening pleasure. Three of those stages are outdoors, with one taking over the inside of the club, so for nine glorious hours, you can enjoy fun in the sun and tasty treats for various food trucks, while also perusing the vendor stands full of goodies you never knew you needed. Adding the soundtrack for the day include some of your favorite residents from Kazbah, Pink Mammoth, You're Welcome and many others, including those listed above hosting this event, with over 40 DJs slated to perform. Proceeds from the day will directly benefit Beats for Boobs and Compute for Cancer, two organizations geared towards educating, raising funds and providing research opportunities to further our fight against cancer. Spend Sunday doing your part in helping further this great cause, while dancing your heart out to some of our local heroes. Date: Sun Aug 6, Time: 12pm-9pm, Place: The Great Northern, 119 Utah St, Cover: $10 presale for entry by 2pm, $15-20 otherwise, More Info (CQ)

Flyer Of The Week
Our flyer of the week is for Ellen Allien this Fri @ The Great Northern

Link Of The Week
Dolby 'Prime' Full Version: This is the fourth and final part in a series of films commissioned by Dolby Labs for their amazing gallery space in San Francisco. Gabe Askew has long collaborated with the musician duo Hays + Ryan Holladay who were responsible for putting the series together. They leveraged the new Dolby Atmos technology to create a beautiful and embracing soundscape while Gabe tried to wrap his head around the massive 9920x720 resolution display. The theme of the series was memory. Drawing from the writings of Ray Kurzweil, Gabe created a visual metaphor for the physical act of how the brain receives a stimulus, breaks it down into elements, stores it via pattern receptors in the cerebral cortex, and then recalls it. The specific memory represented in the film is the birth of his daughter, Lily. Here

Event: Housepitality
Venue: F8
DJs: Charlotte the Baroness, One A aka Gehno Aviance, Polyglamorous crew (Major, Mark O'Brien, Beya)
Music: all things house
Cover: no cover b4 10pm w/RSVP, $5 presale on RA, $10 otherwise

Househeads rejoice as Housepitality has another great lineup! First up is Charlotte the Baroness, an SF legend with a love for all things house. DJing since the 80's, CTB was an anomaly (at that time at least); a female holding her own in a male dominated arena: DJing. Being the only female at lineups, at times, wasn't good enough for her, so she joined Your Sister's Party in 1992 and the rest is history. See her dominate on the decks as only the Baroness can. One A aka Gehno Aviance joins her in the housepit while the Polyglamorous crews takes over the back room. It's also both CTB's and One A's birthdays, so be sure to wish these two a happy one. (CQ)

Event: DTE Inner Orbit
Venue: Underground SF
DJs: Petko Nikolov, U-SRD, Jeremy Meadow
Music: techno, tech-house
Cover: no cover
Direct to Earth, aka DTE, will be celebrating the third installment of their new monthly Inner Orbit series. While DTE has been bringing world class techno to the Bay Area since 2011, they only recently began their new monthly series that highlights mostly local artists as well as the local community that has come together in the last six years around the music, the spaces, and the faces. Tonight's sounds come from Petko Nikolov of the Diacreitic Collective, Robot Ears' U-SRD, and Resonance's Jeremy Meadow. It will be a smorgasboard of what it sounds like to be a selector in the city right now. And there's pizza while it lasts! (ML)

Event: The Jungle w/ UFO
Venue: Public Works (Loft)
DJs: UFO, Audio Angel
Music: jungle, dnb
Cover: $12-15 presale
In a world of live streaming, follows, likes, snaps and stories - this is a one-on-one experience, in real time. All vinyl, all night. "It's Storytelling, it's a Ritual …This is why I am who I am." Ed Garro aka DJ UFO! had a vision to create a night to where he could bring people back to the simplicity of the parties that originally inspired him to become a DJ/Producer in the first place. "Kids have told me they feel they've missed the boat. Here's a chance to experience that again." As one of the pioneers of jungle / drum 'n bass in the US, UFO! has established himself as one of the world's most talented and groundbreaking artists. Producing and performing across three continents for two decades. To tell this story, he brought in friend and co-collaborator, Bay Area Vocalist Audio Angel. Whether performing or not, Audio Angel (Rashida Clendening) has been known to become downright anti-social in the midst of clubs and parties because her attention has always been THE MUSIC. Hearing UFO! was one her first experiences of a DJ who clearly felt the music as deeply as she was while she was dancing. She was thrilled to be a part of making this night happen. 1 DJ, 1 MC, 1 Visual Artist, and YOU!

The steampunk meets neotribal feel is sometimes Dungeons and Dragons and sometimes Perdido Street Station. The event is a modern circus, burlesque, and dance show all in one and it is a beautiful state of chaos and organization. Way back before Motez was making bangers and rocking festivals, he was getting some classical piano know how and its these skills that he flexes on Own Up. Motez is many things. He's #1 'next big thing' (In The Mix), a key 2014 'artist to watch' (MTV), an 'artist to watch out for' (vibe magazine), and he's earned the attention of dudes like Flume, who named Motez as one of his most excited artists alongside Ta-ku and Wave Racer. He's chalked up two Hype Machine #1s, had main support duties for Disclosure's most recent Australian tour, was the only Australian to be invited to play the debut Oceanic tour by cult-followed Hard-presents, played to thousands on the main stage of Field Day, and had 3 tracks in Australia's TOP TEN most played EPs of 2013 by Stoney Roads. In a world of inflated egos and outrageous demands, Yolanda Be Cool, aka Bondi boys Andy and Matt, have kept their feet on the ground and let their music do the talking. The unavoidable worldwide number one breakthrough track, "We No Speak Americano" sold over 5 million copies and amassed over 200 million youtube views.

It's hard to believe that it's been two years since the first Afternoon Bliss party. And of course, in celebration, the crew has brought out an amazing lineup to thank you for supporting their collaborative efforts. Wally Callerio plays music that inspires people to move and creates music that DJs want to play. Not an easy feat, though he makes it look that way which I'm sure comes from him having over 20 years experience in doing so. Also on deck are Dusty Carter, Omar Johnson, Geo Stasi, Mario Dubbz, each holding it down on the patio with their funky, eclectic beats. Jayvi Velasco and Angelo Paulos keep things moving in the room upstairs, so be sure to wear your dancing shoes as I'm sure you'll be alternating your time between both. (CQ)
