Nitevibe Buzz

This is it. It's summer. The heat begins to swelter and the sweat rivulets running down your nose and between your breasts remind you that it is almost time to head home again to the Playa for another Burning Man. So, while we prepare mentally and physically, get ready to prepare viscerally at NIMBY Art Space in Oakland where so many of our beloved large-scale art pieces are born and raised before heading out to get coated in a layer of dust. In this evening to late night event the entire block will be closed for both indoor and outdoor art shows, mutant vehicle sightings, and of course piles and piles of music. Oh, and probably some fire too, you can be sure. Some projects on display will include new works from Flaming Lotus Girls, Dream Pipes by Cloudy Cates, a Fireball Shooting Gallery, and so many more. For music the lineup is stacked with the likes of Airpusher Collective DJs and tons of West Coast DJs of the particular sound that is house to electro to breaks to bass that reminds us so thoroughly of the dusty home. It's the sound of time to get ready. Date: Saturday, June 17, Time: 6:30pm-2am, Place: NIMBY, Oakland, Cover: $30, More Info (ML)

Raise The Temple Fundraiser
This full day event at indoor and outdoor space The Midway is all about getting ready to build the most sacred of all Playa places: The Temple. While The Temple can be a serious place on-Playa, its build and creation doesn't have to be. This celebration includes not only music from artists both local and visiting, but also large-scale Playa art projects around the block-wide Dogpatch compound as well as talks with artists who directly contribute to making the spaces and places that let us know that we're at home (or on the moon, depending on your, um, mood). Artists include LA's imminent Eduardo Castillo, Desert Hearts' Tara Brooks, Space Cowboys' Shooey and Mancub, and artists from Icarus, Opulent Temple, Airpusher, you know, all the faves. Find a time to visit the partial section of the Temple that will be erected onsite for the event. So clean and prepare. Summer is here! Date: Saturday, June 17, Time: 2pm-10pm, Place: The Midway, Cover: $20-30, More Info (ML)

While Jack Beats' sound is hard to pin down, it is one that was initially heavily influenced by their hometown of London. Event: Pan-Pot
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Pan-Pot, Lindsey Herbert, ADRA, Ümee Dee
Music: techno, tech-house
Cover: $22.50 presale
Since their inception in 2005 when Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix met at Berlin's SAE, and their studies in the production and manipulation of sound aided them in identifying Pan-Pot's overarching sound aesthetic. Pan-Pot have become a dominant presence in modern techno, an ascent mirrored in the rise of their home label mobilee records to the top tier of electronic music. Tagging themselves as "the dark side of the force," Pan-Pot have melted minds, warped perceptions and reinvigorated the dancefloor with their heady, unorthodox sound; within their work, subtle pitch manipulations square off with wall-of-sound distortion, the dark stomp of 4/4 is tamed by intricate sound design, and minimalistic frameworks duel with throbbing bass lines, epic builds, and murky, off-kilter melodies. Once you've experienced Pan-Pot's colossal, haunting soundscapes you will never forget them.

Event: Route 94
Venue: Audio
DJs: Route 94, Tube & Berger, Scott Hatfield
Music: tech-house
Cover: $10 presale
Since emerging with a clutch of much-played tracks a couple of years ago, Route 94 has quietly yet forcefully established himself as a distinctive young figure in the house music scene. His music - simmering, forceful and purpose crafted for late night dancefloors - speaks of long evenings spent locked deep into mesmerizing four-to-the-floor grooves, so immersed that the surrounding world falls away. Growing up in a small industrial town in Germany and confronted with the boredom that comes with it, Tube & Berger, aka Arndt Roerig and Marko Vidovic, found music at an early age. Then, age sixteen, the two found themselves performing stage shows in a punk band when the '90s House and Techno boom hit town. They made their breakthrough in 2004. The Song "Straight Ahead" featuring new wave legend Chrissie Hynde climbed straight to the top of the US Billboard Dance Radio Charts and bookings from all over the world started to roll in.

Event: The Juan Maclean
Venue: Monarch
DJs: The Juan Maclean (DJ Set), Tyrell Williams, M3
Music: nu-rave, Euro-disco, tech-house, new wave
Cover: $7-15
The Juan Maclean were an essential part of the early 2000s electroclash/nu-rave scene that appeared in NYC alongside DFA labelmates like LCD Soundsystem. Juan Maclean is like the James Murphy of his decidedly post-punk, krautrock, decidedly new-sounding sounds that often feature the ethereal, timeless voice of Nancy Whang. Tonight, however, Juan will be DJing and his sets often include a mixture of the house-disco sound that he can be known for as well as techno, like the Midland track featured on his April 2017 mix. He always sponsors the work of his fellow DFA artists like Sh*t Robot and and more for an acidic take on his usual sound. MacLean is an artist above all else, whose dedication to sound can be never-endingly searching, but always consistently excellent and fresh. Joining is local Chicago house DJ and Housepitalitiy resident Tyrell Williams. (ML)
