Sunset Season Opener
Well, it's technically no longer the opener, seeing as how the Spring Boat Party has come and gone, but this age-honored tradition doesn't care about a postponement due to April (ok, and March) showers. So, for maybe the first time in May, we'll be making our annual pilgrimage to Stafford Lake up in Novato. As usual, the event will be a pure celebration of the origins of the Sunset family as we know it today and the event that started 13 years ago in the Berkeley Marina — that means that the headliners will be your Sunset residents: Galen, Solar, and J-Bird that you have come to recognize as what could be termed the 'Sunset Sound'. They'll be joined by an opening set from Soundproof Music's Cle. There are some new things to remember this year. A new NO SMOKING rule is instated all over the park (that means no smoking section). Do what you can to make this work for you! Also there will be a slightly higher entry fee considering this event is now happening towards the end of May rather than the beginning of April. All worthy costs to enjoy what you know is one of the best Sundays of the year. See you on the field and don't forget the afterparty at Monarch with Tim Sweeney of Beats in Space! Time: 11am-7pm, Date: Sunday, May 21, Place: Stafford Lake, Novato, Cover: $5 for individual drop off, $30 for car entry, CASH ONLY, More Info (ML)

Link Of The Week
A Taste of New York - by FilmSpektakel - In September 2016 we visited this awesome city to try out some new time lapse stuff. It took us 10 days, a lot of burgers and one helicopter ride to produce this video. 10 days is very little time to discover this city of endless opportunities, so we hardly slept anything and shot day and night for this time lapse film. The city that never sleeps indeed! Here

Event: Mad Max: Silent Fury
Venue: Grey Area
Artists: The Firmament
Music: live electronica, soundtrack
Cover: $20
Back by popular demand after a sold-out showing at closing night for SF IndieFest, duo The Firmament (Renzo Gorrio and Marky Ray) are showing their live scoring of last year's immeasurably popular and debatably gender-forward, Burning Man-inspired, and certainly Oscar-nominated film. The soundtrack, which will eschew the audio track of the original film, will feature synth-heavy sounds, acid basslines, and heavy drum machines to mirror the intensity onscreen as Furiosa and crew battle the vicious Commander. As for the black and white, it is said that director George Miller believes that many of the film's subtleties are only visible through this monochromatic lens. You know what that means: It doesn't matter how many times you've seen this film before — this is a new experience. Black and white dress HIGHLY encouraged! (ML)

He is also one of the most talented and diverse djs to emerge from Holland. He hosted several clubnights like Viral Radio and Colors at Club 11 and Trouw. You can't really define Cinnaman's style. It's somewhere between the spectrum of house, garage, dubstep, UK funky, two step, Detroit techno and UK techno. Cinnaman has also compiled the Beat Dimension compilations wich are focusing on a fresh and invigorating sound coming from L.A, mixing electronic music with R''n'b aesthetics and hip hop drum patterns. He got his DJ name because he was always chewing on candy cinnamon sticks hence his name Cinnaman.

Event: Don't Try This at Home
Venue: The Great Northern
DJs: Mark Farina, Pezzner, Homero Espinsoa, Upstairs-Oontz Pouch DJs: Dreams of Dawn, O'SNAP, Hipslice, Cameron
Music: house (deep, tech, funky)
Cover: $15-20
Mark Farina is taking over The Great Northern for Don't Try This at Home, an event where a portion of the proceeds will benefit Compute for Cancer, a nonprofit that takes unused computing power and dedicates it to researchers working towards a cure for cancer. Farina, in case you didn't know, is from Chicago. He got his start alongside Derrick Carter and Kevin Saundersons, creating his own blend of house music that incorporated parts of his hometown and parts of San Francisco, which was aptly dubbed Mushroom Jazz. Featuring the jazzy side of Chicago mixed with the dark, dubby San Francisco style, this music has come to define him in so many different ways. With weeklies and CD compilations of the same name, it's plain to see that Farina scored a winner with this. Pezzner and Homero Espinosa round out the lineup in the main room, while the Oontz Pouch DJs will hold it down upstairs in the red room. (CQ)

Event: Kazbah Presents: Audiofly
Venue: Audio
DJs: Audiofly, Dustin Sheridan, Ali Khalili
Music: tech-house
Cover: $10 presale
Audiofly are the duo of Luca Saporito and Anthony Middleton. They met and started working together in the spring of 2002 and immediately started a prolific partnership based on their shared music styles and experiences on the DJ circuit. Their combined talents have created a powerful, experimental and original style of music (a deadly, dirty, jackin, tech meets electronic house) which is very current on the underground club scene.

Event: Mathew Jonson (Live)
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Mathew Jonson (Live), Enzo Siragusa, Petko Nikolov b2b Chvck
Music: drum'n'bass, techno, jungle
Cover: $15-18 presale
Mathew Jonson offers a rare fusion of populist intensities and nuanced musicality. With a keen understanding for the needs of the dancefloor and the universal laws of house and techno, he's thrown out the rule book time and time again, sneaking tricks learned from electro and even drum'n'bass into minimal clubs, and loading up his B-sides with tracks that do what they damned well please. When it comes to rave culture there aren't many artists out there who are as passionate and dedicated as Enzo Siragusa. The Londoner is the mastermind behind one of the capital's most infamous party brands, Fuse – an event which he has used to cultivate an unmistakeable sound, attracting a loyal, dedicated following in the process. His roots lie in jungle and drum n bass, that pure, undiluted sound which sprung up from London's inner city in the mid-nineties. Enzo still holds true to many of the aspects of 90's UK rave culture that made it so special and carries them into his current output.

Event: Swagger Like Us
Venue: Oasis
DJs: Kaycee Ortiz, DavOmakesbeats, boy_friend

As always, be prepared to come with a strong look as you grind and bump your way through the night along with Swagger Like Us resident DJ DavOmakesbeats and boy_friend and then enjoy a live show from Alabama-based hip-hop artist Kaycee Ortiz. As usual, the headlining artist's music reflects the ethos of the Swagger crew, who support self-expression across genders and races. (ML)

DJs: Renzo Gorrio (live), Samantha Giron (dance production)

While over five months have now elapsed since the Ghost Ship fire took over 30 of our closest friends and comrades, artists and spiritual crusaders, it still feels as though their spirits are still with us.
