Bayview SPARC
It's summertime, which means that some of the larger art camps that are based in the Bay are getting ready to head to the Playa. But not without showing off their wares to the citydwellers first. This is one of the first parties at The Bayview District's Imprint.City, where crews like Flaming Lotus Girls and Sextant Lounge call home and work on their large-scale art projects. If you're into giant metal structures, fire art, visiting art cars, and tunes from DJs from Space Cowboys and Dusty Rhino (among others), then this is the only party for you. Top this all off with the astonishing Spark piece from Sextant Camp's twin Tesla Coils, which will be creating some sparks in honor of Mr. Tesla's birthday. Date: Saturday, July 9, Time: 2pm-10pm, Place: Imprint.City, Cover: $30, More Info (ML)

Event: Housepitality feat. Halo Varga
Venue: F8
DJs: Halo Varga, Sharon Buck, Mike Bee
Music: house (funky, Chicago, tech), techno, ambient
Cover: no cover b4 11pm w/RSVP, $5 presales on RA, $10 otherwise

Even though this is a short week, a respite of some sort is still in order. And of course, the perfect solution is still Housepitality, which takes over F8 every Wednesday. This week, the crew welcomes back Halo Varga, whose return is long overdue since he hasn't graced the Housepitality stage since 2011. Originally from Chicago, Halo has released countless classic tracks on various labels since the 90s. His raw talent and infectious sound have kept him at the forefront of the West Coast meets Chicago house arena. Also on deck are residents Sharon Buck and Mike Bee, two funkalicious DJs who'll help keep things popping. (CQ)

Event: Laser Native 2Yr Anniv w/ Bot
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Bot, Vitamindevo b2b Lt. Daaan
Music: tech-house
Cover: $10 presale

Bot is of the future. Half man, half-machine; fully Italian. Exiled in West London, locked in the studio since departing legendary duo Crookers, Bot (his creators named him Andrea Fratangelo) has disassembled any expectations and rebuilt his sound for 2018. Futuristic techno and unorthodox club rhythms are welded with hip hop influences, and a nod to the sounds and spirit of classic house. What we have here folks, is the new tomorrow.

Event: As You Like It pres. Leon Vynehall
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Leon Vynehall, Nackt, Jenö
Music: house
Cover: $20
Leon Vynehall, the Brit who creates house music for both the dance floor and the living room, will be enjoying an extended set tonight with his friends at As You Like It. The local crew's emphasis on high-quality artists are telling into why this Brighton producer keeps getting asked back. His 2014 EP, Music For the Uninvited, is both personal and hard-hitting. Emotive and physical. Joining in will be an AYLI resident: Oakland's own Nackt. Nackt, a huge fan of ambient, noise, and hardware-based sounds is sure to turn in a memorable opening set. (ML)

Event: Green Gorilla Lounge pres. Henrik Schwarz (live)
Venue: Mighty
DJs: Henrik Schwarz, DJ M3, Anthony Mansfield, Tyrel Williams, Tasho, Jimmy B, Kimmy LeFunk
Music: deep house, tech-house, minimal
Cover: $20
Henrik Schwarz is a legend of the (relatively) more recent techno scene in Germany. As a member of the crucial label Innervisions, his deep house sound has been the soundtrack for festivals like Fusion and Melt, and clubs like Panoramabar and Robert Johnson. As a German, he cannot stop at just house, and his most recent efforts have seen collaborations with the Berlin State Ballet and works with a eclectic jazz trio. He even has an album, Instruments, which features classical compositions of some of his famous house tracks. How's that for genre-bending. Tonight with the Green Gorilla Lounge he'll be doing a live set on Mighty's killer soundsystem that could range from his more classic-style house or some classic-style classical. Stay tuned to hear what this maestro can bring. (ML)

Event: Oliver Huntemann
Venue: The Midway
DJs: Oliver Huntemann, &me, Tobin Ellsworth, Matthias Link
Music: minimal tech, tech-house, house
Cover: $15-18 presale
Whilst hordes of German producers and DJs set their nose for Berlin, Oliver Huntemann chose to head back home. His epicenter is Hamburg. Huntemann's concrete roots can be traced back to early techno. Had he been any younger, he would undoubtedly have sucked electronica like mother's milk from a C64 chip. &me entered the house and techno world somewhat out of the blue, it is due to his sublime modesty that's already captured in his alias. His path to becoming today's most praised and sought after DJ/producers is based on a solid foundation. o make common cause with Fetisch, delivering beats for their joint venture Terranova and releasing EPs and an album on Kompakt plus his collaborations with Nic Fanciulli and releases on Saved Records and his project NR& with fellow producer Rampa and singer Nomi (Hercules & Love Affair, Jessica 6) are just a few milestones of that path.

Event: Sander Kleinenberg
Venue: Love + Propaganda
DJs: Sander Kleinenberg & Go Freek
Music: house
Cover: $10
Kleinenberg is not only an artist who declines to stick to a single, easily defined sound, he also utilizes more than one medium to create a night out. Long at the forefront of integrating video imagery and other visuals in his DVJ sets, Sander includes Pioneer among his sponsors for these innovative performances. The manufacturer has been involved with outfitting select clubs around the world with the SVM-1000 audio-visual mixer (which Kleinenberg helped develop), DVJ players, plasma televisions, and other custom video installations exclusively for his performances. Integrating music and images single-handedly requires sharpened skills and on-the-fly invention. "Now, in the process of DJing, I am in control of another dimensions. The thought processes are not just about music; there is a visual element as well." Which allows his to shape his identity, and stimulate crowds, in a host of fresh ways. "This is a whole new way of looking at what you do creatively. In the end, that is very challenging. It makes you more versatile as well. I love keeping on my toes."

Again, that's Space Cowboys. One thing is definitely clear, these guys are all about the music and all about having fun, and they want to share that with you! Event: Brass Tax Prom-Enchantment Under the Sea
Venue: Island of Alameda
DJs: MACE, Haute Mess, Marky Ray, Ernie Trevino, JoeJoe, Ethan Miller, J'aime Ma Vie
Music: breaks, house
Cover: $20-30
Brass Tax is holding the prom of all proms this weekend with Enchantment Under the Sea. And if you're thinking that this is the same name as the prom held in the movie Back To The Future, then you're correct! Technically, this is a fundraiser for BT resident JoeJoe's large scale light-based art installation, The Koi Pond, an immersive, interactive art piece based on a traditional Japanese garden, but if the mood strikes, feel free to reenact the movie scene. Don your most awkward prom dress, tuxedo shirt or wedding dress or the like and be prepared to take some classic prom photos. Take it easy on the punch, as I'm sure it'll be spiked to the gills. The soundtrack to the night will be provided by BT residents MACE, Haute Mess, Marky Ray, Ernie Trenivo and JoeJoe and I'm sure the tracks "Johnny B. Goode" or "Earth Angel" will be played. Rounding out this classic lineup will be Ethan Miller from FnF and J'aime Ma Vie from Strategik, each dropping prom-worthy tracks. Find an outfit and a date, and don't forget about the corsage, and get your little booty to the Brass Tax Prom, Enchantment Under The Sea. (CQ)

Event: Damian Lazarus
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Damian Lazarus, Rodriguez JR (live), Canson, Rooz & Bo, Diacritic Collective
Music: tech-house
Cover: $22 presale
Since the moment he spun his first record, Damian Lazarus' mission has been a clear and urgent one: to blow away the mediocre, the over-inflated, the obsolete; to seek out and celebrate the energetic, the important, the new. Always rebelling, always going places. Driven by an almost childlike curiosity, a vivid imagination and wicked sense of humor, he's used his role as a DJ, label owner and now musician to nurture and share some of the most exciting and experimental music on the planet.

Event: Felix da Housecat
Venue: Love + Propaganda
DJs: Felix da Housecat
Music: house
Cover: $10 pesale
Dedicated to making the people dance. Felix is one of those rare, charisma-oozing characters, whose musical and mental eccentricity come from a genuine place. He's never afraid to take a risk to reach new ground. It's this blend of qualities that has kept him in such high reverence in the electronic field for two decades now, and which has ensured that his music has been a consistently captivating force. An ever-moving target, his various incarnations have seen him morph from resolute acid and techno warrior to avant-garde nu-skool electro-disco pioneer to the man who gave one of the world's most famous rappers a new lease of house-infused life long before major labels were putting every urban artist on their books over anemic 4/4 beats.

Event: John 00 Fleming
Venue: Verso
DJs: John 00 Fleming
Music: progressive
Cover: $15-20 presale
John 00 Fleming is an artist who has achieved international success in a career spanning over 20 years without dishonoring his musical essence or fans. With over 10 million album sales and 30 produced mix compilations, John's a proven musical pioneer whose essence lies in what his fans call, 'the J00F sound'. The J00F sound is as unpretentious as the artist, and is best described as deep and textured progressively edged trance, in an electronic dance music style that is an antithesis to what is normally produced within the genre. In an industry rife in self worship and mirror gazing, John is characterized by a passion and ability to connect audiences by injecting his unique underground musical style, and not his ego, into the mainstream vein.

Event: Salted
Venue: Mighty
DJs: Mr. V, Jay J, Del, Julius Papp
Music: house
Cover: $10
This Saturday, Salted happens at Mighty (as we know it now) for the last night. The club has been sold and will close during the month of August for remodeling, so come get your last Mighty Salted fix. Well, last fix until September, when Salted picks back up as doors reopen as The Great Northern. In honor of the last Salted at Mighty, there'll be a few special guests helping send off the club in true musical fashion. Mr. V, Jay J and Del will join resident Julius Papp in throwing down those funky beats you love so much, so bring your dancing shoes. I can't think of a better way to say good-bye to Mighty as we know it now and to welcome a new, yet familiar venue than by attending one of the staples shows there, Salted. (CQ)

Event: Nu & Oceanvs Orientalis Open Air
Venue: The Midway
DJs: Nu, Oceanvs Orientalis, Ramona Wouters
Music: deep house, microhouse
Cover: $20
Nu and Oceanvs Orientalis are two artists who are in no rush to get the dance floor moving. Their melodic soundscapes are not ambient, but are pleasant — more of a gentle bath of sound rather than the waterslide rush of much of today's electronic music. Both Berlin-based Nu and Turkey-bred Oceanvs Orientalis incorporate instrumentals with their electronic sounds to create music that defies genre and creates a lush space. At this open air party at new local venue, The Midway, we are sure these sonic textures and the landscape of the now ever-changing Dogpatch, will transport you to a meditation on life, love, and the pursuit of music-ness. (ML)

Event: Werd w/ MightyKat
Venue: Monarch
DJs: MighyKat
Music: tech-house, soul, disco
Cover: $5 presale
MightyKat was born with a sixth sense for rhythm. A native Montrealer, she launched her career in 1998 and released her first mix CD "Confidence" in 2001, earning her praise both at home and abroad. Since then, she's become a player on the international scene while continuing to organize and promote local events. She is also label partner of Pronto Musique and Release The Pressure with producer, Miguel Graça. Counting her main influences as jazz, disco, and soul, MK's unique sound bridges eclectic house and the funkier side of techno. Her sophisticated style, refined track selection, and tight mixing skills define her signature sound, while her love of the dance floor drives her musical intuition wherever she plays.
