Gay Pride
It's time again where the bay celebrates those who are just a little bit different. Those who stray off the beaten path to forge our own. Those who struggle to find their place in life. I'm talking about Pride weekend, and it has arrived in San Francisco! With all the recent hate crimes and violence against our LGBT brothers and sisters in Orlando and beyond, this year's event features heightened security and a long list of restricted items, all geared towards ensuring a safe and fun time. Please use common sense and be aware of your surroundings so that we can spread the love this weekend, and not hate. Back to our weekend preview! SF goes all out for pride week, with the event culminating in parades, day parties, club nights, the eponymous SF Dyke March and of course, the Gay Pride Parade. The parade starts in downtown at the Embarcadero along Market Street and ends with a party at Civic Center, where the true celebrating happens. This year's theme is "For Racial and Economic Justice," and features Peaches as the main headliner. There'll be 20 live music stages, an appearance by RuPaul's Drag Race's Honey Mahogany and Liam Mayclem, an Emmy winning local emcee. The Phoenix Hotel will be hosting the 4th Annual Mighty Real Poolside Pride Party on Sunday, where partygoers can lay poolside while listening to banging beats and eating tasty treats. A weekend full of quality events that allow us to celebrate our alliances this weekend is just what the doctor ordered. This is but a mere taste of all the awesomeness happening around the Bay this weekend, so get out to Pride to enjoy these and more. Date: Tue 6/21- Sun 6/26, Time: varies, Place: various, Cover: varies, More Info (CQ)

Pink Mammoth Pink Party
It is tradition now. Every Pink Saturday (the Saturday before the Pride Parade for you noobs) for the last four years, Pink Mammoth, queer-friendly soundcamp and masters of on-Playa day house, have been throwing a block party outside Mighty with a world class lineup for our world-class Pride weekend. It's June, so sunshine is usually optimal so dress up in your summertime best because this party starts at noon and goes all day long. Talent ranges from top artists in the world of tech-house, like DJ Three and San Francisco's own bass-friendly Dirty Bird Player, Worthy and LA's Marques Wyatt. These class acts are supported by a looooong list of local favorites that have become for all of us here at Nitevibe (and I'm sure you reading at home as well), more of a reason to get out to the dancefloor more than anything. To curtail the list is tough but the day will feature sets from Distrikt's Matt Kramer, Disco Knights' Laura Lisbona, Dusty Rhino's Nugz, and Lonely Boy from Desert Hearts Records. It reads as a who's who of the SF scene and we know our scene is queen. See you in the street for this party on the block. To be followed by an indoor afterparty at Mighty. Date: Saturday, June 25, Time: noon-9pm, followed by afterparty until late, Place: Mighty, Cover: $20-25, More Info (ML)

Event: Horse Meat Disco
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Horse Meat Disco
Music: nu-disco, house
Cover: $15

Horse Meat Disco is in its now 8th year as a queer collective from London specializing in ultra disco and house that brings to life again the disco and underground culture from the 70s and 80s. Back then, house music and nightclubs were often a space space for those under-the-radar, the marginalized minorities and queer-identifying members of the city space. We've come a long way since basements filled with the sounds of a kick drum and diva vocals were the only place where one could be themselves — but that doesn't mean it isn't still a great place to do it! So Horse Meat is keeping the tradition alive in London and, every Thursday of Pride, they head over here to the Bay. Enjoy the fun and freedom at Monarch as you prepare for the epic Pride weekend. Call Super is a DJ and musician from London who has, over the last two years, quietly carved out his own place in the landscape of electronic music. A deft ability to craft sets known for their hypnotic intensity and musical breadth has brought him across the world and seen him develop a travelling residency of extended sets alongside Objekt. This expertise was showcased monthly on his show for Berlin Community Radio, and in much loved mixes recorded for FACT, Resident Advisor, and Dekmantel amongst others.

Feel Pride in your traditions. And this, for some, is one of them. One of the most raucous, all-out gay dance party at The Sound Factory — a venue that has been screaming rave since the early 90s. This party goes all night and the blacklight will show you all the things you do or don't want to see showing up with your sexy fellow revelers. Event: Butch
Venue: Audio
DJs: Butch
Music: tech-house
Cover: $10
Constantly working in parallels - drenched by a potent mixture of juxtaposition and fluidity in both his sets and his productions - Bülent Gürler AKA Butch, fuses the grey-area space between music of the body and mind. With over 20 years consumed by a thirst for electronic music, the Alzey-born, Mainz raised entity has released on leading imprints such as Desolat, Cocoon, Rekids, Sei Es Drum and beyond, while maintaining a solid DJ schedule that's seen him opening the minds and hearts of crowds at fabric, Time Warp and his continuing residency at Berlin's Watergate.

Event: Delano Smith
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Delano Smith, Map.ache
Music: tech-house
Cover: $10-15
Born in Chicago and raised on Detroit's West side, Delano Smith represents one of the last of a rare group of Detroits first house DJs. Perhaps it was the juvenile absorption of the sights and sounds around him during his first 5 years in the Windy City coupled with his experience during the new DJ craze of his high school years in Detroit that influenced Delano the most or maybe it is simply that enigmatic link between music people in Chicago and Detroit, known to insiders as the I94 Connection. Regardless of the reason for his natural ear for the deep and groovy, Delano can lay claim to a legacy that most Detroit jocks cannot. When performing outside of his native city, Delano's unique sets highlight the fact that his skills were forged in an era before the rigid lines of house and techno genres appeared.

WERD is still here for all your post-Parade partying needs. Tonight they'll be featuring Robert Jeffrey, who cut his teeth in the late early aughts in the Bay, DJing for Honey Soundsystem, Lights Down Low, and Housepitalitiy. His connection with the gay community of San Francisco has brought him to the North in Seattle and to the South in LA. But he prefers to stay here. He'll light up the dancefloor with his energy, which I'm sure will work in tandem with your energy (and sweaty bodies) after the long weekend. See you there! (ML)
