Sunset Love International Warm-Up Boat Party
You know summer is approaching because of a large variety of events which began with Sunset Season Opener two weeks ago and now coming up on the first spring boat party. To celebrate the upcoming season - and the upcoming trips of both Sunset and Disco Knights to a seafaring adventure at Love International in Croatia - the two are combining on our own Bay-faring day party complete with international talent and the locals who travel so far but always come back to us. DK faves like DJ M3, Jimmy B, and Anthony Mansfield will be joined by Solar, Galen, and more. Y'know, the crew. Headlining is Mike Huckaby (no, not the politician), a Detroit legend who knows techno. Get on the boat and let spring set sail this Sunday at Pier 3. Be sure to check out the afterparty at Monarch! Date: Sunday, April 17, Time: 5pm-11pm, Place: Pier 3, Cover: $55-65, linkMore Info

Event: You're Welcome w/ Justin Campbell
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Justin Campbell, Benjamin K, Iwata
Music: house, funk
Cover: $5-7 presale

The thought of bringing the best underground house, dance, techno, retro in to Monarch's dungeon disco living room of lust, then filling it with everyone you know and love the most, is what YW's aiming for, pulling for, and dreaming after. And this Thursday you're in for a treat. The seductively suave San Diego favorite that is Justin Campbell is coming to town. This is a man well known for his knowledge, taste, and ear for music. A straight up legend behind the decks, Justin is well known for pulling the listener through a journey of funky, freaky, fantastic four to the floor perfection, each and every time. For those that have been fortunate enough to see him start the morning off at Morning Gloryville, push the dusty dance floor of Pink Mammoth at Burning Man to it's breaking point, crush major club sound systems up and down the coast, or conduct near riots at Desert Hearts – well consider yourself lucky.

Event: DJ Maseo
Venue: Mighty
DJs: DJ Maseo, DJ Shortcut, Mr. E
Music: hip-hop
Cover: $8-15 presale
Vincent Lamont Mason Jr. is part of one of the most celebrated hip hop groups of all time: the rapper, producer and DJ is one third of hip hop group De La Soul, who have released platinum selling albums, topped charts and toured the world over the last few decades. Mason is also known as Maseo, P.A. Pasemaster Mase and Plug Three and formed De La Soul in 1987. The trio first rose to prominence when spotted by Prince Paul with a demo recording of "Plug Tunin'". Paul helped the band link up with a label and before long a deal was singed with Tommy Boy for their debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising. Mason's job within the band is as a DJ, spinning beats and keeping things fresh as he draws inspiration from life experiences and contemporary global events. Versatile, Accomplished, Legendary, are just a few adjectives that describe Jonathan Cruz aka DJ Shortkut. Driven by passion for every genre of music, Shortkut began his career as a mobile sound-system, progressing on to competing in World DJ Championships and establishing himself as the consummate professional DJ.

Event: Nina Kraviz
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Nina Kraviz, Rooz + Bo, Petko Nikolov, Alex Blackstock, Lily Ackerman, Ian Comfort, Chvck
Music: techno, tech-house
Cover: $22-25
Nina Kraviz is an artist known for many things. Although she most certainly has been at the forefront of a recent resurgence of female DJs in both techno and house, she is often, and unfortunately, credited with things other than her talent and drive as a mostly male-driven field. Aside from the more publicized (her relationship with Ben Klock, her infamous bathtub video, and her Eastern European good looks), she is also an accomplished DJ who took her love of Chicago house and Detroit techno and brought it through Russia, to Europe, and now back to America — changed but with roots intact. She is still one of the few artists from Russia to truly create a Western persona and career outside of the former Eastern Bloc. She's produced for the likes of Rekids and Jus-Ed's Underground Quality label while also DJing around the world at some of the biggest festivals including this year's Coachella, and doing the January 2015 edition of DJ Kicks. The girl knows her stuff, and now she wants you to know it — and her — as well. (ML)

Event: Honey Soundsystem pres. Steffi Live & The Black Madonna
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Steffi (live), The Black Madonna, DJ Minx, Honey DJs
Music: techno, tech-house, minimal
Cover: $20-30
There are a couple of things that current SF-ers don't get sick of. One of them is Honey parties, for the endless fun they always provide and the the world class talent. Speaking of world class talent, this night is one of those, when Honey brings Berlin star and Panoramabar favorite, Steffi, behind the decks for a live set. While the many skills and long-winded career of Deutschland's Steffi is known by many, The Black Madonna is one of the rising talents of the American techno landscape — and whose appearances have created a frenzy in our fair SF every single time she comes. Add in Honey DJs and DJ Minx and you have yourself a serious, two-room party that leaves space for everyone to dance. (ML)

Event: Luca Bacchetti
Venue: Love + Propaganda
DJs: Luca Bacchetti, J.remy & Glade Luco
Music: house, electro
Cover: $10 presale
Luca's free-flowing, almost stream-of-consciousness approach to music creation has seen him explore many subsequent sonic shades over the course of his career, always striving to challenge himself creatively in the studio. Cutting his teeth on '80s New York hip hop from the likes of Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys, Luca followed his musical nose to embrace the seminal trip hop sounds emanating out of Bristol throughout the '90s when Massive Attack and Portishead were at their peak. In 2012 he begun ENDLESS, not just as a platform for his own productions and those of colleagues he finds inspiring (Guti, Andrey Pushkarev and Alix Alvarez), but a deeper symbolic creative outlet that expresses infinite possibilities of both music and travel, his two prime passions. Always looking to re-invent the creative wheel for himself, his latest EP on ENDLESS 'OVO', is a three-tracker that traverses expansive melodic soundscapes, tinged with psychedelia, minimalism and even drops the tempo down to ambient for 'The Space Between Us' that made Beatport's Top 10 Electronica chart for seven weeks, rubbing shoulders with DJ Koze, Bonobo and Jon Hopkins.

Event: SET w/ John Digweed
Venue: Mighty
DJs: John Digweed, Matt Hubert
Music: progressive
Cover: $40-50
John Digweed comes from the early 90s collection of DJs like Danny Howells and Carl Cox that helped to usher in the early 90s phases of acid rave over in places like Hastings in the good ol' UK. In the years since he's continued to, well, rave all over the world, including (infamously) in San Francisco's very own '90s house movie, Groove. If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend you get your sh*t together. Now Digweed plays festivals and clubs, and manages to be one of those people who manages to not acquire ire when charging $40 and up for a club night… When you're a legend like he is, you can do what you want. Event: St. Germain
Venue: Mezzanine
DJs: St. Germain
Music: nu-jazz, house, afro beats, Malian beats
Cover: $45+
St Germain (aka Ludovic Navarre), whose albums Boulevard (1995) and Tourist (2000) originated a genre of French electronic music that later included artists like Daft Punk and Air, has returned to the studio to create his first album in 15 years. The self-titled record marries percussive grooves, which have always been central to St Germain's sound, with a new element: traditional Malian music. St Germain's move closer to the source of the jazz and blues elements that were essential ingredients in Boulevard and the internationally acclaimed Tourist led to his interest in those genres' roots in West African music. Tourist, which sold nearly three million copies worldwide (more than 300,000 in the U.S. alone), was equally beloved in jazz and electronic music circles, reaching #1 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and being named one of the Best Albums of the Year by Rolling Stone. In France, the album won three Victoires de la Musique awards (the French equivalent of GRAMMYs), including Best Jazz Album, Best Electronic Album and Best Live Performance.

Event: Love International Warm-Up Boat Party Afterparty
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Sunset Soundsystem, Disco Knights, and more TBA
Music: tech-house
Cover: $5 w/ boat ticket, $10 otherwise
The fun doesn't have to stop just because the ship has docked (or dare we say: the ship has sailed on being on the ship). Both Sunset Soundsystem and the Disco Knights crew will be in atten-dance, rocking not one, but both floors of Monarch this Sunday. There will also be some special surprises: maybe a WERD DJ or three, maybe a special guest, and maybe even you. Don't let Sunday finish you before you finish it. (ML)

Event: The Kazbah w/ Andre Lodemann
Venue: Audio
DJs: Andre Lodemann, Acid Boyz, Chemical Ali , Elz, Halloran, Papa Lu
Music: house, tech-house
Cover: $11-14
Berlin based André Lodemann has been a DJ for more than 20 years. In 2001 he started to produce music releasing 12-inches and remixes on Moods n Grooves, Simple Records, G-Stone, Room with a View, Z Records, Freerange, Buzzinfly, DFTD amongst others. His tunes 'Where are you now?' and 'The Light' became hugely popular with the worldwide underground DJ circuit. Other highlights include remixes for Tracey Thorn, Omar, Akabu, Phonique and Vakula to name a few. Citing his greatest influences as Masters at Work, Mateo and Matos, Kerri Chandler and François Kevorkian, Lodemann's musical vision is to create atmosphere, arouse emotion and touch people musically. In May 2012 Lodemann released his first album 'FRAGMENTS' on his own imprint Best Works Records. It is a showcase of an incredible creative output of an artist determined to create emotional music off the beaten track avoiding typical building blocks and tacky software gimmicks. Andre Lodemann feels secure in both a warm deep house feeling aswell as in a brisk techy vibe not only in his productions but also behind the decks. 100% of the proceeds go to bringing the Kazbah back to Burning Man 2016.
