2016 Annual St. Patty's Block Party
Every year in March, people of all races and ethnicities become Irish in celebration of St. Patty's Day. Green beer, kisses and Irish bands fill the day and I can't think of anything more fun than some debaucherous drinking with many newly Irish folks. This year in SF, there's a two day block party at The Irish Bank, the perfect spot to the find a little bit of luck, and lots of whiskey. And if you've never been, well let me warn you that SF's Irish celebration the 4th largest Irish Block Party in the US, so take heed and plan accordingly. The first event takes place this Saturday and features The Watch, Paddy's Orchestra, The Shams and Midnight Marc van Brant rocking out in the two alley ways. The second day happens on actual St. Patrick's Day, March 17. Now it's a Thursday and all, but that never stopped anyone from partying like their life depended on it. The lineup is almost identical to Saturday's, featuring Paddy's Orchestra, The Shams and Midnight Marc van Brant, so dancing shoes are a must. DJs: Danny Howells b2b Hernan Cattaneo, Martin Roth
Music: house, tech-house
Cover: $20-30
What a treat to have such consistently on-point artists as Danny Howells and Hernan Cattaneo continually gracing our decks. Both artists — Catteneo from Argentina and Howells from the UK — have been playing their tracks without playing the game for about as long as dance music has been around. Both artists subscribe to a certain progressive house sound, one the encourages the upbeat kind of dancing you might associate with an outdoor festival, but do not fear to go against current trends. Both artists are DJ-first, production-second. While against today's de rigeour, this makes them perfectly paired to slay the dancefloor at this 5 hour back-to-back set. Get ready. Get Set. (ML)

Event: Home. Werd. Bound
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Dave Aju, Nick Williams, residents
Music: minimal, tech-house
Cover: $5-7
This like the return of the prodigal son(s). Needless to say, they both went to Berlin, and now they're back again to show how their West Coast-derived, Berlin-influenced sounds have changed over the course of their relocation and their always-continuing love of home. While Aju's sounds come from his Bay Area home's interest in hip-hop and Nick William's sounds veer closer to the funky, dub sound of the tree-filled area, both show a side of this town and they bring it out into the world. Come welcome them home as they roost at Werd this Sunday. (ML)
