Event: Housepitality's Chicago Takeover Vol. 1
Venue: F8
DJs: Andrew Emil, Frique, Audio Angel, Chad Mitchell
Music: raw house mixed with disco, cosmic and dark flair
Cover: $5 on RA, free b4 10pm w/ RSVP, $10 after 10pm

This week's Housepitality installment is honoring a city that has birthed us a house movement and many quality DJs. The Chicago Takeover Vol.1 is the first of a series of parties that feature the windy city's lesser-known, but still quality talent. This week, Andrew Emil has been a familiar face in the Chicago scene for a little over a decade and a half. He's a classically trained percussionist who moved to Chicago to study audio engineering and music composition. He created his own imprint, four play music and creates eclectic house fused with jazz and soul, which continue to be fan favorites. Also on deck is Frique, a DJ who's been captivating the world musically for over two decades. Creating a label in 2014 called Lea Music, allowed Frique to release music that pushes the musical envelope and allows for crowds to truly dissect the 'Frique' sound. Also adding her angelic vocals to the night is Audio Angel with a special performance while local DJ Chad Mitchell makes his lounge debut. (CQ)

Event: Lights Down Low feat. Bondax
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Bondax, Richie Panic, DJ Dials
Music: nu-r&b, post-dubstep
Cover: $10-20

Bondax made a name for themselves as the bassier version of Disclosure — although they did it before Disclosure was even a thing. The similarities include that they're British, they're young (only now topping out at 21 years old), and they're revitalizing a genre of electronic music that appeals to a whole new, and broader, crowd. While they started in England they've most certainly spread their influence all the way here to SF where the bass scene is rife and collectives like Lights Down Low continue to bring their urban sheen to our parties as they will tonight on a Wednesday that is sure to wow. Event: Mioli Music presents Vibes
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Justin Braun, Nathan Cabreana, Emanate
Music: house (deep, disco, bass), deep tech
Cover: $5 all night

Mioli Music had a great first night hosting their first event on the third Thursday of the month. After a successful first night, they crew has decided to change the name to it's proper party name, which is Vibes. That name seems to suit the event much better, as the whole purpose for the night is to invoke that groovy feeling you get when you're in a place with like-minded people listening to good music. Hailing all the way from the windy city, is Justin Braun, a man who is no stranger to getting parties jumping. He'll seamlessly flow through all elements of house, adding disco, bass and deep sounds when necessary. Also on deck is one of our own, Nathan Cabreana, a DJ whose roots are deep in vinyl. He's come out of DJ retirement to rock the dancefloor of Monarch, guiding party-goers through various emotions and thought-provoking sounds. (CQ)

Event: Felix da Housecat
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Felix da Housecat, Lisbona Sisters, Benjamin K
Music: acid house, techno, electro-disco
Cover: $10-20
Felix da Housecat has one goal in mind when he drops his eclectic mix of acid house and techno beats: to get the crowd dancing. Always pushing boundaries, he's not afraid to cover new ground or to take risks. He's thrown down acid and techno sounds, as well as the avant garde and nu skool sounds, so you know that nothing with Felix is off limits. The Lisbona Sisters will also be gracing the stage, and sharing their broad range of musical tastes. Born in New Jersey but now settled in the Bay Area, these girls know how to get the party jumping and share their musical love whenever possible. Rounding out the lineup is Benjamin K, a DJ whose sound is based off of two words: lust and love. He's the creator of the weekly, You're Welcome, which brings in new and old talent from the underground and beyond, and has helped make Benjamin K a household name. (CQ)

Event: Scarface
Venue: Mezzanine
DJs: Scarface, DJ Supreme, Mark Divita
Music: rap
Cover: $20-60 presale
Brad Terrence Jordan (born November 9, 1970), better known by his stage name Scarface, is an American rapper. He hails from Houston, Texas and is a member of the Geto Boys. He is originally from the city's South Park neighborhood. In 2012, The Source ranked him #16 on their list of the Top 50 Lyricists of All Time, while ranked him #10 on its list of the 50 Greatest MCs of Our Time (1987-2007). Scarface broke through to broader recognition on the national rap scene in 2000 with his album Last of a Dying Breed, considered by some critics to be his most accomplished work to date. The album won for him the Lyricist of the Year award at the Source Awards in 2001. Also in 2000, Scarface became a businessman, going to work as head of the Atlanta office of Def Jam Records South. In this capacity, he signed the label's first recording artist, a former radio deejay calling himself Ludacris. Ludacris proved to be a major success for the new label, achieving platinum status several times over with his debut album Back for the First Time.

Event: Steve Bug & Doubtingthomas
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Steve Bug, Doubtingthomas, Petkonikolav
Music: tech-house
Cover: $13-17
Steve Bug is a forced to be reckoned with within the highest echelons of techno. Obviously he is from Germany. The label head of renowed Poker Flat has been touted on the international scene at least since his 2002 Sensual long player release. Building on his roots in the early techno and acid house scene of Germany, he grew his own sound that both looked to that past while moving forward to the sound of Deutschland that so many of us are familiar with today. In addition to creating his own label — which calls releases from artists like Clé, John Tejada, and Trentemøller its own — bug has also done remixes for the likes of Cocoon and Fabric, to name a few. The man with over 500 release credits clearly knows what he's doing. Joining him will be European secret, DoubtingThomas, the multi-stylist who roots the many sounds he calls his influences into a decidedly house-esque dance floor creation. It's certainly a night of masters as Public Works. (ML)

Event: Atish presents: Late Night Tonight w/ Jozif
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Jozif & Atish
Music: house, tech-house
Cover: $17presale
Since breaking through in fine and standout style in 2010, London based DJ and producer Jozif has remained a sumptuous dance music soundsmith. His early works came on influential labels such as Mobilee and Brooklyn based Wolf & Lamb as well as Ministry of Sound. His ability to edit and rework tracks in his own distinctive sound soon became clear, and meant he was invited to record an early podcast for Resident Advisor, proving to be a fine showcase of his skills as a DJ as well as studio hand. His music is imbued with a real sense of musicality and lush strings, painting pianos and emotive chords that melt mind, body and soul. About an hour into the party, they'll take a break from the music and Atish will conduct an actual sit-down interview with Jozif, where they'll explore what rocks his socks, makes him tick, honestly, who knows where the interview will go. Suffice to say, if you know Jozif, you're excited. If you don't, you'll learn to love him.

Event: Opel pres. Double Down

These two kingpins of the similar, dance and grooves-heavy sound that works so well out in Black Rock City and bringing their vivacious sound around the world year-round. After a serendipitous tag team set in New York last year, these two teamed up a year ago for a sold-out show at Mighty and now are returning to do it all over again. The duo promise a high-octane, synergistic set that kept dancers there until the last note this time last year. The set will be long, it will be a journey, and this dance floor will be the place to be this Saturday for some of the most epic Playa-style sounds. (ML)
