Raindance's Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is an exciting time of year for San Francisco where connections to the biggest country in Asia have been rife for over a century. As we get ready to move away from the Year of the Ram and into the Year of the Monkey. This tradition has been going strong for 15 years with the loving support of the Raindance community. You know what that means: Burly beats, wompy vibes, and a touch of forest glitch. The aritsts, as usual, will be top-notch, with sets coming from celebrities and Raindance regulars like An-Ten-Nae, Kaminanda, and Random Rab are a few of the bigger names to grace the stages at the party's new home at The Factory. The old school SOMA (before it was even called that) rave spot will be teeming with veterans of the community and this party now that it makes its way over from 1015 Folsom along with residents like Little John and Smasheltooth. Gung Hay Fat Choy! Date: Saturday, Feb 13, Time: 9pm-6am, Place: The Factory Cover: $40 linkMore Info (ML)

With Netflix and Chill being such a hot topic in 2015 and into 2016, there were bound to be various iterations of the phrase. First appearing on a respected underground label, Netsky made quite the name for himself by fusing breakbeats with banging bass. Since then, he's become known for creating epic dnb anthems, winning many awards and praises of his musical peers. And by joining the ubiquitous Hospital Records in 2009 and releasing his self titled debut, propelled the young talent to become one of the most talked about names in dnb. Event: Pete Tong
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Pete Tong, Lauren Lane, Rachel Torro
Music: house, techno, jungle
Cover: $22
Public Works welcomes a true legend this Friday. Beginning his musical career as a part-time journalist and radio DJ, Pete Tong has come a long way from his early start. At the forefront of the music world, he's the voice of BBC Radio 1 dance programming and an in-demand DJ. Behind the scenes, though, he's a well-respected industry icon . He spent much of his life in England but now calls Los Angeles home as he wants to be in the thick of the US dance world. He has three All Gone Pete Tong residencies in the US: Los Angeles, Miami and Vegas, and has had stages at festivals such as WMC, Creamfields and TomorrowWorld, to name a few. He's achieved global success, and the name Pete Tong is known in the music world by any and all. And in case you weren't impressed by these credentials, then perhaps the fact that he signed both Run DMC and Salt-n-Pepa to labels in the 80's may just do it. Thanks to him, we have songs like "It's Tricky," and "Let's Talk about Sex," with both groups paving the way for future generations. Also on deck is Lauren Lane and Rachel Torro, each dropping their signature sound for the night. (CQ)

That resulted in a booking at Studio 54, where Todd Terry passed Vega his new mixes to test out on the crowd. From there, he began remixing various artists like Information Society, Debbie Gibson and Noel, which led to him beginning to produce his own work. He was asked to create music for the movie East Side Story , which led to him working with Marc Anthony, together creating a Latin r&b album that spawned the club hit, 'Ride on the Rhythm.' It's no wonder that Louie Vega is known as the godfather of global dance music. Also on deck is Jayvi Velasco, a house DJ who'll set the tone with his opening set. For a little bit of house mixed with a freestyle and Latin flavor, get to Audio this Friday. (CQ)

Maceo Plex has been called many things. He is a bastion of deep house and is one of the artists that has brought the often melodic sound from deep underground to more mainstream venues like Miami Ultra. The "gateway drug" for many young techno fans, Plex's sound still holds up as a player of the heartstring puller of robotic beats with inspiration from across the board and light sounds of Ibiza and Panoramabar echoing through his sound with minimal vibes mixed in with the melodica and breathy female vocals. The Ellum record label boss descends upon the city's newest venue, The Midway, as this Dogpatch warehouse transforms from its barebones industrial industry past into a barebones industrial music future. The vibes there are strong. With support from local deep and tech-house denizens from Green Gorilla Lounge and Disco Knights, this is sure to be a party to remember. (ML)

As You Like It consistently upholds the name it has created for itself as one of the leaders of the San Francisco electronic music scene by continuing to bring top caliber artists to local denizens of sound. This Valentine's Day, they're continuing their (and our) love affair with techno music by bringing some of the more atmospheric yet grooving artists on the scene today. Leading this lineup is German electronic producer Robag Wruhme, a gentleman and a class act whose sound evokes lush landscapes and romantic escapades just as often as it does the necessary four-to-the-floor of the dance floor. His previous visits to the Bay have wowed audiences as much as his albums have and the word of mouth has only contributed to his continued appeal. Hearing his set at the club is, frankly, the best we can do until he gets around to making another of his always stellar albums. Joining him will be another favorite in the Bay, Doc Martin of LA, as well as homegrown Bells & Whistles. Love is in the air this Sunday along with the soundwaves, that much is certain. (ML)
