The Edwardian Ball
The Edwardian Ball is an event like none other in the Bay Area. The weekend-long festival is comprised of two nights of vintage fun at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom that are as immersive as they are whimsical. Friday night is the annual World's Faire and Saturday is the official Ball. The event, now in it's 16th year, plays host to all sorts of steam punkers, Dickens costumers, and a variety of cosplay that goes far above and beyond anything "normies" might consider a go-to party outfit. These ensembles really take the cake, highlighting mechanics and the 'future-past' inherent in the Edwardian subculture, which also honors the artwork of Edward Gorey. The fair will feature a world of delights to explore, akin to a carnival from another time or alternate reality, that somehow landed on Van Ness Street. The Ball on Saturday night is often called the most decadent night of the year, as be-gowned ladies and gents twirl their moustaches and tighten their corsets. The event will feature acrobatics, circus games, and a general theatricality that extends between performers and attendees as the line of participation and performance ceases to exist. This is all not to mention an exclusive performance from the SF Opera Lab, a new subdivision of the SF Opera. Get your tickets to one or both of the nights soon, as this arts and culture festival — a San Francisco gem — tends to sell out fast! And don't forget, you've still gotta plan that costume. Date: January 22-3, Time: 8pm-2am, Place: Regency Ballroom, Cover: $60-325, link More Info (ML)

He's made his way into Drumcode with 3 top 10 ten EPs, which helped him gain the love of techno supporters everywhere. He's touted as one of the hottest techno producers around, and with him being booked around the globe, we're inclined to agree. Event: Sascha Dive
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Sascha Dive, Timelapse, Martin Aquino, William Wardlaw
Music: house, tech-house, techno
Cover: $10 presale
Hailing from the greater Frankfurt Area Sascha Dive has made an impression on the international house and techno circus over the last years. Although the deephouse traveller looks back to an amazing amount of pristine releases with the first official vinyl pressed back in 2007 one can still call him a young gun. Also on the bill - Antonio Del Prete and Pierluigi Velotto came to Berlin as complete strangers, in search of inspiration and the next step. Fate brought them together one random night, while in a bar with friends, and TimeLapse was quickly born. It wasn't long before they discovered the perfect union of deep grooves, tech sounds and melodic elements; grabbing the attention of labels such as Liebe*Detail and Sasha's Last Night On Earth label, stirring up interest worldwide. With their first release – 'Heaven' – already a huge success, the future is looking bright for these two Italian-born talents.

Event: Solomun
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Solomun (Diynamic), Bells & Whistles, The Kazbah hosts the Loft w/ Dj's Ali, Papa Lu Halloran
Music: house, tech-house
Cover: $15-30
Solomun has played a major role in redefining European House Music, with productions, remixes and stand-out DJ sets that take the very building blocks of House and sensitively reconstruct them: adding a fresh, ultramodern twist to the genre. A well-respected underground producer for a number of years, he regularly hits the top spot of readers' polls in music industry magazines - confirming his measure in every important category. His stratospheric rise in popularity kicked off in 2012, after a legendary first season on Ibiza with his own label-inspired Diynamic Neon Nights at Sankeys. As head of Diynamic Music, he's a consistent but still he's not afraid to take the audience on a journey. It's a sensual style where deepness, funkiness and human vocals go hand in hand.

Event: Tigerskin Live! A Wild Life Party
Venue: Harlot
DJs: Tigerskin (live), Emanate, Pedro Arbulu, Lily Ackerman
Music: tech-house, minimal
Cover: no cover b4 11pm w/ RSVP, otherwise $12
Berlin artist Tigerskin is special in that all the sounds that he plays are his own creations. Every. Single. Song. That's a lot of producing and certainly something that makes him standout among most DJs, some of whose mixes are little more inspiring than a techno Top 40 countdown. The lineup is bolstered by members of SF-based Mioli music and Modular's Pedro Arbulu. Aside from the sweet sounds from the deck, the night will have an entire animal theme (with good reason considering the headliner's moniker). Animal ears will be distributed throughout the night and animalistic behavior is encouraged, although consent is mandatory. The Get Physical artist has been known to move crowds, so get ready to shake. (ML)
