Sunset Halloween Boat Party
Anytime is a good time for a boat party! Sunset Sound System returns with their annual Halloween boat party this Sunday. Setting sail from Pier 3, you board The San Francisco Belle and spend six hours touring the bay, giving you an epic view of San Francisco. For those hours, you will get to enjoy the musical stylings of Dixon, a true jack-of-all trades out of Berlin. He's a house DJ, producer, record label owner, bakery owner and VP of FC Magnet Mitte and he shows no signs of slowing down. Also on deck is Alex from Tokyo, a Paris born Tokyo raised DJ who now resides in New York. Largely responsible for connecting the international DJ world with Japan. Alex is a strong crossover DJ and producer. And of course, no boat party would be complete without Solar, Galen and J-Bird. Feeling generous? Donate to Sunset's newest philanthropic organization, Parties4Peace. For more info on that and the party itself, check out the boat part event page. Date: Sun 10/25, Time: 5pm-11pm, Place: Pier 3 (Washington at Embarcadero) SF, Cover: $65-75, link More Info (CQ)

Freaker’s Ball
It's time for the annual Halloween roundup of massive parties where revelers will dance and get down to all variety of talent at parties that range from truly awesome to excuses to get drunk. Freaker's Ball lands firmly in the former, as a time-honored tradition (21 years and running!) for those who like the Raindance sounds of trap, bass, and just a l'il house will get dressed up in one of San Francisco's oldest and raviest locations for a party: The Sound Factory. The lineup never fails with tons of talent from both near and far. Exciting additions to this year are local trappis VNDMG, whose newest album Facing Ghosts just dropped just last week to acclaim and the man himself is sure to be on a musical high that will more than translate to his dirty beats. Other highlights include Miami's electro-IDM whiz kid Otto von Schirach, Sunset's Galen and Solar, Disco Knight's Anthony Mansfield, and Hegemoney's Ka$hmir. Date: Saturday, October 24, Time: 9pm-6am, Place: Sound Factory, Cover: $30, link More Info (ML)

Also on deck is AYLI's William Wardlow, a slept-on yet incredibly talented DJ with a plethora of knowledge of the underground and a damn good DJ. Event: H.O.S.H.
Venue: Monarch
DJs: H.O.S.H., PapaLu, Chemical Ali
Music: house, tech-house
Cover: $15-20 presale

There are solid record labels and then there are recognizable musical collectives… brotherhoods who work together for the furtherment of electronic music. One such crew is based proudly in Hamburg; goes by the name of Diynamic and owes a large part of its success to German born Holger Behn aka H.O.S.H.. First and foremost, H.O.S.H. considers himself to be a DJ, someone who praises the art of mixing records and sequencing journeys - preferably long ones - over anything else. Ask any of the people who have been lost in one of his residencies at the likes of Watergate in Berlin, Studio 80 in Amsterdam or Ego in Hamburg over the last few years, and they are unlikely to disagree.

Event: Adriatique + Mind Against
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Adriatique, Mind Against, Matt Hubert, Job Jobse, Solar
Music: house, tech-house, psychedelic
Cover: $22 presale
Adriatique came together in 2008 as solo artists, but since then have grown inseparable as friends and irreplaceable as a production partnership. Adrian & Adrian not only flow almost as one performer in the DJ booth, but so do they extract the most from each other in the studio. Through a great music background, their influences range from the early beginnings of House & Techno to several other styles. The records they make came out on labels such as Culprit, Wolf & Lamb Black, Supernature, Cityfox and most notably Diynamic & 2DIY4, where home is for the Zurich based artists. The kick-off for getting in touch with the DIY-Crew was their highly anticipated track on the second 2DIY4 release. Etching a musical partnership that draws from the combined roots of IDM, house and techno, Mind Against are the Italian native but Berlin based project of Alessandro and Federico Fognini. The biggest cliché of a "sound that's hard to pin down", is realer than gravity when it comes to Mind Against. They coax on psychedelic hooks of the 1980s and dance floor anthems bound traditionally to european soil. This backdrop makes for releases and performances that do well against any canvas.

Event: Egyption Lover
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Egyption Lover, Sweater Funk DJs
Music: house
Cover: $13-15 presale
One of the most innovative producers of the old-school/electro era, Egyptian Lover's Greg Broussard recorded a parade of singles during the mid-'80s that proved influential for decades. Influenced himself by Kraftwerk/hip-hop soundclashes like Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" and Man Parrish's "Hip-Hop Be Bop (Don't Stop)," as well as the extroverted black-lover soul of Prince and Zapp, Broussard began recording from his Los Angeles base in 1983. One year later, he emerged with the breakdancing anthem "Egypt, Egypt," released on the Freak Beat label.

Event: Guy Gerber b2b Matthew Dear
Venue: Mezzanine
DJs: Guy Gerber, Matthew Dear, Mark Slee
Music: minimal, tech-house, microhouse
Cover: $20
An Israeli that doesn't make psytrance? Say it ain't so! Well, actually, it is so. Guy Gerber continues to court the periphery of his scenes, whether it's house in Israel, Israelis at a rave, or making an album with hip-hop star P. Diddy (or whatever he's called these days). Gerber is a fan of making waves but he's also a fan of making truly progressive music — a sound that is progressive not just for its adherence to that genre but for its ability to push the boundaries of house music to new ground. Tonight, he will play back to back alongside another boundary-pusher, the darkly experimental Matthew Dear, whose live works and full albums are always hotly anticipated by fans and journalists alike. His sound is entirely unique which makes his visits extra special. Combining these two minds will make for a distinct DJ set that record watchers as well as rug cutters won't be quick to forget. Event: Josh Wink
Venue: Harlot
DJs: Josh Wink, Rooz, Bo, John Kaberna
Music: house, tech-house
Cover: no cover b4 11pm w/RSVP
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know who Josh Wink is. This DJ and producer has been rocking the decks since the 1980's when he began his career as an underage mobile DJ. He played a major role in the Philadelphia warehouse scene when house music dominated events. He's had a slew of club hits, and created one of the most seminal dance-music labels, Ovum Recordings. Joining him is Rooz, Bo and John Kaberna, each adding their own sound to the night. (CQ)

DJ Kramer, although his name might not be obvious to all at first glance, is a celebrity to any of those who devote themselves as fans of the seminal Burning Man day party Distrikt. DJ Kramer is one of the sound camp's co-founders and has been playing to the dusty day crowds since the camp was founded. Kramer is perennially the deck-master on their Saturday closing party, which is well known throughout Burner Communities. Kramer isn't just a one-week-a-year kinda guy, though, he also plays frequently both in SF as well as around the country and occasionally internationally. With inspirations from the likes of Digweed and Sasha, he plays a dancefloor-friendly aficionado who knows what SF likes and SF knows they like him. (ML)

He's high energy and performs a hybrid DJ/live laptop sets. Did I mention that's got mad turntablists skills? Also playing is Ana Sia, an LA based DJ known for her ground-breaking sound and for keeping the dancefloor packed. Her wild, eclectic style makes her a fan favorite. San Holo made his debut in late 2014 with the Cosmos EP on Heroic, which led to the Parisian Point Point Crew to release his Hiding single on their Filet Mignon compilation. That skyrocketed him to the forefront of future beats and trap music world. Paul White, Golden Rules and the Wormhole crew round out the lineup for this bass-laden night. (CQ)
