PreCompression
It has been said that the months leading up to the big Burn in the Bay Area are a collection of boutique Burning Man festivals for those in the know. Where entire whimsical worlds pop up in the unlikeliest of places, bringing the Play to The City and the art and music to the people who either love the Burn or maybe have yet to experience it. This weekend's Precompression is just one of the slew that are now appearing, following last week's Distrikt Revel Station. This one, although it will of course feature music, is especially focused on art, with a daylong schedule of art appearances from the likes of Twilight Spaghetti Theater, the Temple of Promise, Black Rock Rangers, Cello Joe and so many more. Just another day to remember in another unforgettable summer in the Bay. Date: Sat June 20, Place: American Steel, Oakland, Cover: $20-35, link More Info (ML)

HUSHconcerts
HUSHconcerts takes over Jack London Square this weekend for the location's first HUSHfest Silent Disco. Two channels of banging beats will be played through the headphones. Channel A features the funkiest in soul, disco, r&b and hip-hop, played by Davey D., Dr. Ricky Vincent, Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist, DJ Platurn and Motion Potion on the 1s and 2s. Channel B has a more breaks, house and techno vibe, with the sounds thrown down by some of your favorite Brass Tax DJs, like Ernie Trevino, JoeJoe, Haute Mess, MACE and Marky Ray. Handling the closing set will be the East Bay's own Mancub, from the Space Cowboys crew. He brings his innovative, genre-bending set the waterfront, the perfect place to move and groove to his sounds. Summer is shaping up to be a warm one, so dancing along the water is the perfect way to keep cool. Date: Sat Jun 20, Place: Jack London Square, Broadway & Embarcadero, Oakland, Cover: $15-20, link More Info (CQ)

Event: Tutu Tuesday
Venue: Harlot
Artists: tech-house, deep house
Music: house
Cover: $2 b4 11pm w/ tutu, $10 after or otherwise
Can you believe that its been SEVEN years that San Franciscan ravers have been rocking their ultimate dance accessory on this early weekday for a rave that seems like it would be suited to a Saturday. Tonight's lineup is especially noteworthy, as Berlin-based DJ, Phonque, comes to grace the decks with his summer rain sounds and top-level talent. He's been around the block since he moved to the Techno Town in the late 90s where he started organizing parties and getting a name for himself before he even started DJing. With that kind of experience under his belt on both sides of the spectrum - both music and party vibes - you can be sure he'll bring it tonight alongside local Benjamin K. Its a big night for tutus. Event: Housepitality feat. Sven Weisemann
Venue: F8
DJs: Sven Weisemann, David Siska, DJ Sep
Music: house, techno, tech-house, deep house, dub
Cover: $5 on RA, free before 10pm w/ RSVP, $10 after

Housepitality invites a particularly talented German for a night of smooth, well-crafted deep house that easily earns the German adjective of "schön". A true instrumental musician as well as a DJ, Sven often uses three turntables for maximum improvisational ability, a skill he's honed since he began experimenting with mixing records at the ever so young age of 13. While his productions tend to stay within a certain territory of clean, comfy deep house, sometimes foraying more into dub techno and other styles not so distant, a broad spectrum of four-to-the-floor dance styles can be expected in his sets, his record bag usually full of quality cuts of jacking techno and old-school house as well as the sound he is more known for through his releases on Mojuba, liebe*detail, and Delsin. The rest of the night will be taken care of by David Siska in the main room - a veteran DJ of SF and co-host of the Sonic Sunset mix show - and DJ Sep in the Groove Lounge playing dub all night long. Event: Dimitri from Paris
Venue: Mighty
DJs: Dimitri from Paris, A. Lisbona
Music: house
Cover: $15-20
Dimitri from Paris got his start in the 80's when a French radio station hired him to mix records on the air due to lack of dance remixers. His career in radio led to his being asked to rework tracks for various artists, among them Björk, New Order, and the Brand New Heavies. Along the way he was hired by chic fashion designers like Chanel, Gaultier, and Lagerfeld to put together soundtracks for runway shows and boutiques. With the advent of samplers and other machines at a budget that made them accessible in the mid '80s, Dimitri started making his own tracks. He was also learning the process of how a track is constructed by producing his own tracks. And the rest, as they say, is history.
