The Wet Party
It may not be Vegas or Miami (and we're probably thankful for that), but this doesn't mean that San Francisco can't have a good, old-fashioned pool party complete with daylong pool-side beats and cabana rentals. Featuring local and LA legends like Julius Papp, Frankyh Boissy, and Marques Wyatt, these California house legends will bring you back to an era of sweet sweet sounds accompanied by a poolside party that looks more like it belongs in a Mad Men California fever dream party than something in your own reality. This party has been going on for years and expect lots of old heads to come out for the summer season kick-off party. Because when the sun comes out, it is time to get Wet. Date: Sunday May 24, Time: noon-7pm, Place: Phoenix Hotel, link More Info (ML)

Grey Area Festival
Gray Area Arts + Technology is a San Francisco innovator at the utmost. A new organization that has refurbished underused Mission areas, like their #revivieTheGrand project, and provides exhibits, concerts and discussions on the collaboration of arts and technology in the modern era and for modern, discerning audiences. As what some might call "festie season" has arrived, Gray Area is jumping on the bandwagon - albeit in a progressive, pro-technology fashion. While the weekend-long event includes a Creative Coding Workshop, an exhibition from F.A.T. Gold, a collective of engineers, artists and musicians, and of course the musical nights featuring Lustmord and Nine Inch Nails' Alessandro Cortini in a night with live A/V performances and HD sound projection, and Ghostly International's Shigeto and Teebs, artists from one of the most renowned electronic labels that continually push the envelope in musical production. These shows, and the festival as a whole, prove that TED-style talks and intellectual candy is not the only thing that can demonstrate techonology-forward arts. Date: Fri May 22-Sun May 24, Time: varies, Place: Gray Area Art + Technology, 2665 Mission St, link More Info (ML)

SF Carnaval
This weekend marks the return of SF Carnaval and both days are jam packed with music, dancing and bright colors. Join Samba Conmigo and the colorfully dressed dancers in celebrating all that is Samba. Enjoy the parade that honors Latin American and Caribbean culutres. This years' theme is Agua sagrada, which means sacred water, and the colors of the day include blue, turquoise, white and a bit of gold, so dress accordingly! Holding it down in the role of Grand Marshal is Sheila E., an Oakland native who is no stranger to performing. She's worked with Prince and the legendary Pete Escovedo, who just happens to be her father. He's celebrating his 80th birthday, and 60th anniversary of performing, so you don't want to miss his jam session. The whole weekend is full of floats, drum playing and stilt walkers, in addition to the singing and freestylers getting down and dirty. There is no work on Monday as it's a holiday, so you have no reason to miss this. This is just a taste of what you can expect Saturday and Sunday, so get down to the Mission District to enjoy all this has to offer. Date: Sat/Sun 5/23-24, Time: 9:30am-7pm, Place: Mission District, on Harrison St btwn 16th and 24th Streets, link More Info (CQ)

Event: Housepitality w/ Butane
Venue: F8
DJs: Butane, Victor Vega, Nackt
Music: tech-house, techno, acid
Cover: $5 on RA, free before 10pm w/ RSVP, $10 after

Housepitality brings in some quality tech-house this week. Recent SF transplant Butane has been quiet about what he's done over the years, but the truth is this guy has been taking expert control of dancefloors since the early 2000's. Now he heads both Little Helpers and alphahouse, a high-quality tech-house label that's seen releases from the likes of Skudge, Kris Wadsworth, and Ryan Crosson to name a few. With so many DJs and producers these days blindly following the sound de jour, it's refreshing to hear a DJ like Butane still flying the flag of dancefloors year past. On support will be Housepitality resident Victor Vega, and in the Groove Lounge will be Nackt of Outpost, Rare Form and As You Like It indulging in all the parts of his collection that only the Groove Lounge would allow. It will feel like an Ibiza summer night in this SOMA slammer. Gear up. (ML)

Event: As You Like It w/ Move D and rEAGENZ
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Move D, rEAGENZ, Sassmouth, Mike Gushansky
Music: house, techno, acid
Cover: $20-25
This Friday, As You Like It welcomes back one of their regularly returning favorites for another night on the decks. Move D is certainly no stranger to San Francisco - the journey from Heidelberg to here and back has been made plenty of times since the formation of rEAGENZ, the live project between Move D and San Francisco's own Jonah Sharp, a mad scientist of a man who even newer heads may recognize from the new Acido Ahora label and party. Move D will play a DJ set on his own, most likely getting the crowd loose with a nicely curated bag of smooth deep house before moving on to tables jam-packed with synthesizers and drum machines for the rEAGENZ set with Jonah Sharp. Of course, As You Like It always brings in great support, and tonight we'll be warming up to the fine house sounds of As You Like It residents Sassmouth and Mike Gushansky. (AO)

Event: Christian Martin

Christian Martin is a Man About Town, a man who helped bring the Dirtybird Revolution to our three-shored city with the now traditional Dirtybird BBQ, and a man who has been playing electronic music for the last 20 years. No small feat. His fist pumping sounds rise above the cheese relied upon by lesser artists and have brought him and his crew to the far ends of the globe, with visits to some of the top clubs in the world as well as top festivals like Canada's Shambhala, Germany's Fusion, and California's own Coachella and Symbiosis, Martin seems to have played all over the map although continues to return to his home and his roots in the Bay Area. His booty poppin' music is his trademark, so prepare to get down. (ML)

Scuba, aka Paul Rose still manages the Hotflush Records label, while Skream is a member of the dubstep group Magnetic Man, with Benga and Artwork. Local talent Richie Panic and Sizemore hold it down alongside these two, so be prepared to dance all night. (CQ)

Much less a veteran than Hernan but very much still successful, Marc Marzenit heads Paradigma Musik and has released the music of both Anthony Collins and Henry Saiz, the Spanish big-room don.
