Eye Heart Block Party
Join the Eye Heart crew for another indoor & outdoor SF fiesta featuring 3 stages of music, playing all genres of music, from Deeper Vibes to G-House, HipHop classics (and then some)… everything that makes your soul wanna boogie in the streets or hang from the rafters inside Public Works. With upwards of thousands of party-goers expected throughout the day, all guests are encouraged to get 'Festive' with colorful costumes, and spirited accessories! Headlining this day of pure fun is Panic City, Traviswild, Papa Lu, Mackswell, and many more. For the 4th year in a row, eats will be offered by the famous "El Tonayense Food Truck", serving up some of the best Tacos and Burritos in the city. A perfect pairing with your afternoon margaritas and cervezas. Date: Sat, May 9th, Time: 1pm - 7pm, Place: Public Works, Cover: $20+ presale, link More Info

SF Oysterfest
The San Francisco Oyster Fest is an annual tradition where the city's foodies gather in the park to enjoy their favorite shellfish under the sun. They'll take 'em barbequed or raw and from the four main areas featured on Saturday: California & Baja, Pacific Northwest, Atlantic Northeast and Cooked Oysters. When you're not busy washing down the ultimate acquired taste with some beers ranging from stout to pilsner, you'll be listening to the non-marine highlight of the day: the music. The fact that the music plays second fiddle to a seafood is typical San Francisco, and almost shocking considering the talent that is lined up for this year. Trip-hop/acid house maestros Thievery Corporation takes top billing alongside hip-hop icon Grandmaster Flash. This is certainly your one-up on brunch. Date: Sat May 9, Time: 11am - 6pm, Place: Sharon Meadow - Golden Gate Park, link More Info (ML)

Known for pulling inspiration from all around the world (his mixes have included disco tracks from Russia for example), Harvey is a quintessential DJ's DJ. His productions are groovy and technically flawless, showing everyone that experience really does trump hype. DJ Harvey has a certain mythology surrounding him concerning his insatiable appetite for partying, but none of that detracts from his ability to read a dancefloor like a young adult novel, merely for pleasure and with full comprehension. In the loft Waze & Odyssey will be housing the crowd with pure fun dance music. The vibes will be high between both rooms, so this night is not one to miss. (RK)

Event: Guti Live
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Guti, Rooz, Bo, Shane One
Music: house, tech-house
Cover: $15-25
Beginning his foray into house and techno as recent as 2006, Guti has come a long way in becoming a near household name for clubbers worldwide. From Argentina, Guti took a stark turn in his musical endeavors when his passion for dance music finally overtook his lifelong focus on the intricacies of the piano. Coming from playing high-profile gigs as a pianist, Guti found himself in high demand on the international club and festival circuit just within a few years after his first dance records - finding his big break on the highly conspicuous Crosstown Rebels label. With releases on tech-house pillars such as Loco Dice's Desolat Records, Luca Baccheti's Endless, Supplement Facts and Wolf + Lamb to name just a few, Guti has earned himself a place among today's tastemakers in dance music. At Monarch, he will be bringing his acclaimed live set for an improvised affair of driving tech-house peppered with all sorts of Latin flavors and done with authenticity that many others try to emulate. Catch him with Rooz, Bo and Shane One warming things up for this joint production brought to you by Deep Blue and On&On. (AO)

Event: Surface Tension ft. Talker
Venue: F8
DJs: Talker (live PA set), Patricia, Karl Meier, Surface Tension residents
Music: techno
Cover: $10-20
If you are craving leftfield beats, F8 is the place to be Friday night. Surface Tension continues their off-the-beaten-path offerings with three American acts who are currently making waves in contemporary techno. They will surely please the staunchest audiophiles who are fluent with the machinations of the Resident Advisor server. Patricia's productions have a tendency toward the sonically paired down, exploring minute changes in tonality and static ridden reverb to create hazy, enigmatic, yet very danceable soundscapes reminiscent of early 2000's IDM. Talker, which is a live PA act consisting of Karl Meier and J. Krohn, plods on a darker and more aggressive path that is right in line with the raw formations that Surface Tension gravitates towards. Though relatively a new party, Surface Tension delivers unparalleled music curation and bookings like this prove that it is an asset to the bay. (RK)

Event: A Tribute to Frankie Knuckles
Venue: Mighty
DJs: Quentin Harris, Hector Romero, David Harness
Music: house
Cover: $15-20
Last year, sadly, we lost a true heavy hitter of the house scene. Known to the world as "The Godfather," Frankie Knuckles was an integral force in the Chicago House scene. Always one to push the boundaries of music, he developed a sound and style that was loved by many. In honor of the first year we've been without this man, Mighty is hosting a tribute fit for this king. Quentin Harris will be paying homage, throwing down an eclectic set for all to enjoy. He'll be joined by Hector Romero, who'll be providing some quality house beats you all known and love. Opening the night will be Mighty Real resident David Harness, so if you even remotely love house, Mighty is the place to be this Saturday. Let's help say Rest in Paradise to Frankie Knuckles by honoring him all night. A portion of the night's proceeds will go into the Frankie Knuckles Fund which was started by Elton John. (CQ)

Event: All Gone Pete Tong
Venue: Public Works
DJs: Pete Tong, Kolsch, Ricoshei, Ben Seagren, Benjamin K
Music: deep house
Cover: $25
It's a special night when the man who made so many electronic artists popular graces our halls of Public Works this Saturday. Pete Tong is more than a legend, and if you haven't heard of him you have at least heard of his seminal BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix series that defines who is in and out in the broader house and techno genres. The man has been known to play at places like Ruby Sky, so having him in a smaller, more intimate (and hell, maybe more musically appreciative) venue is a real treat. The other treat (or treats) is that Tong is not the only hot stuff on the lineup. Only with such a star would Kompakt artist Kolsch and Pampa artist Ricoshei would not be headlining shows all their own. This will be a two floor bonanza, with great, top-dance music surrounding you. Event: Boombox Affair Day Party w/ Terrence Parker
Venue: Fat Grape Winery (Treasure Island)
DJs: Terrence Parker, Ilya Galperin, William Wardlaw, Larry Gonnello Jr.
Music: house, techno
Cover: $10 presale, $20 door
It's a Saturday day party on the island as ultra-local crew Boombox Affair brings their stereo-laden decks to Fat Grape Winery on Treasure Island. It's worth it to make the trek as house legend Terrence Parker spins his old-school stuff alongside local heroes Ilya Galperin, William Wardlaw and Boombox-head Larry Gonnello Jr. It'll be a deep crew day with friends and family abound alongside your favorite techno sounds and free wine tastings. Add sunshine and a wind-free island day and it won't get much better than that. (ML)

Event: Coyu
Venue: Audio
DJs: Coyu, Sax Taxi
Music: tech-house, techno
Cover: $10-20
Suara Records label boss Coyu returns to San Francisco with his wildly popular brand of deep tech-house that has taken captive the hearts of fans worldwide. An Ibiza fixture, the Catalan-speaking DJ and producer regularly sees festival crowds swelling to the thousands, so it will be nice to see what he is capable of in Audio's more intimate club setting. His selections as a DJ are often sublime and always dance friendly. And in addition to running a successful label, Coyu spearheads the Suara Foundation, which is a non-profit advocate for abandoned and feral cats. Indeed there is much to love about this musician, and he will be a treat to hear on Audio's Funktion One sound system. (RK)

Event: Popof
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Popof, Fabano Campos, Zita Molnar
Music: tech-house
Cover: $10-25
Monarch will be going all in on bread-and-butter no-frills tech-house this Saturday. Set and Robot Ears do once again what they do best, bringing in straight up party music, this time in the form of veteran French DJ/producer Popof. A part of the Heretik French hardcore collective from the late 90's, the French DJ has released most notably on Sven Vath's Cocoon Recordings and extensively on Heretik offshoot Metal Pussy, Poles MX, and of course his own Form Recordings, which has seen releases from the likes of Julian Jeweils of the Minus Crew and Drumcode veteran Sam Paganini. Popof has never strayed too far from music to party to - as his name suggests, this guy's interested in popping things off. On support pop-off duty will be Fabian Campos and Zita Molnar. (AO)

Event: Elements Of House
Venue: The Endup
DJs: Ruben Mancias, Sal Negro, Teejay Walton, Brian Salazar, Just Gene
Music: house
Cover: no cover b4 11, $10 after
This Sunday sees the next edition of Elements Of House at The Endup, a monthly-or-so party bringing you a loose collective of DJs with the common intention to party all night to the more classic sounds of house - the house of the 90's, the house of other continents, and house of today insisting on a soulful feel and not so much of the "tech". This edition will be much of the same with many a returning DJ. Sal Negro is always a treat, a Sacramento DJ with an incredible knowledge of African, Cuban, and South American house music, Ruben Mancias is an SF frequenter from NYC who spearheads these nights, and the rest of the lineup consists of Bay Area locals each with an impressive bag of soulful house music. It's looking to be a good night of constant momentum. (AO)

Event: WERD - Mama's Day
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Elz, Sharon Buck
Music: tech-house
Cover: $5 b4 11pm, otherwise $10
It's Mother's Day and to celebrate mothers and all those who could (even if they choose not to, ladies choice!) its an all ladies lineup tonight at our favorite Sunday party: WERD. The crew always knows how to bring the right sound for a Sunday and the city piles into Monarch to dance off the weekend and prepare for the week ahead. With two local ladies behind the decks, we'll remember what we've always known is true - that the women have got it going on just as much as the men. It's their time to shine, today and into the future. Celebrate your mothers, celebrate women, celebrate Sunday. (ML)
