Chinese New Year 2015
Gung hay fat choy! That's what the Chinese say for their New Year's and that is what we will say this Friday as we use this second New Year's opportunity to party at 1015 Folsom. Every year 1015 throws a massive blow-out to celebrate this change in season featuring some of the top artists in fusion electronica, downtempo, glitch hop and bass. This year's party will feature the dub-heavy world beats from Random Rab, a man from our own West Coast scene who has helped to define the genre that now features so many great artists like fellow headliners, SF local An-ten-nae and Kaminanda. Other headliners include Dimond Saints, Liberation Movement, The Librarian and Jai Wolf. Prepare for a spiritual-sounding event with bass to boot that will evoke a Symbiosis summer vibe! Happy year of the sheep! Date: Friday Feb 20, Time: 9pm-6am, Place: 1015 Folsom, Cover: $20-30, link More Info (ML)

Event: Housepitality
Venue: F8
DJs: Shawn Rudiman (live), Christopher Leath, Mike Bee
Music: house, techno
Cover: no cover b4 11pm w/ RSVP, otherwise $5, $10 after 11pm

Housepitality has a special treat by shifting things up a bit with live PA featuring Shawn Rudiman - a master of synths and drum machines and live, improvisational techno (and beyond) hailing from Pittsburgh, PA. A true master of live performance, his knowledge of all types of hardware, from old analog gear to new sequencers, samplers, and synths gives him the ability to control and modulate his performance as a DJ would, with the caveat that his sets are completely original and to a large extent improvised.

Manics is a Left Brain / Right Brain production duo by Jordan Deherrera and Chris Sanders. Their "Personalities EP" was released in April 2012 and received critical acclaim. The project was a strange convergence of Indie Dance and 110 bpm electro (known as moombahton). Following this release, the duo has released some 20+ originals and remixes with large and small labels including Dim Mak Records, Oh My God Its Techno Music, Temple Music Group and more. One year after their first EP, Manics started their own label, POPGANG Records. As curators and producers, the duo aims to release quality independent dance music that breaks away from cooky cutter "EDM." Deep house, Techno, Trap, and Indie Dance/ Nu Disco are all part of the POPGANG Sound.

Farina combines elements of downtempo, hip hop, jazz and R&B, French, Latin, beatmatching and mixing songs together. As with Farina's house mixes, the Mushroom Jazz series incorporates transitionary effects (such as a high pass filter) and a generally dry reverb tone. Mark Farina, along with Patty Ryan-Smith, created the now legendary weekly Mushroom Jazz club night in San Francisco in 1992. Don't miss out this friday on the man behind the internationally renowned Mushroom Jazz sound.

Butane returns to the Endup and The Show this month with a special extended after hours set. A producer, he has an impressive discography of releases on major labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical and Sci+Tec as well as his own respected labels - Alphahouse and Little Helpers. As a DJ, his skillfully developed sets are heralded for their range and incredible sensitivity to the crowd he is playing for, making him an after hours favorite. See you on the dancefloor!

Event: Tommie Sunshine
Venue: Ruby Skye
DJs: Tommie Sunshine, Ron Reeser, California Casual
Music: electro pop, progressive house
Cover: $15
Ruby Skye welcomes DJ, producer, remixer and songwriter Tommie Sunshine to the decks. Aptly named, Sunshine is known for remixing alternative and rock songs with some pop flavor, creating an upbeat tune perfect for dancing. He'll be joined by Ron Reeser, an SF based DJ and producer whose progressive house beats and high energy make him one to watch. Rounding out the lineup is California Casual, so get your presale and head down to Ruby Skye on Saturday. (CQ)

Event: Salted
Venue: Mighty
DJs: Miguel Migs, Julius Papp, Jay-J
Music: house (deep, vocal)
Cover: $10-20
You can always count on Salted for a night of throwback house, back to when a vocalist and a groove were all anyone really wanted. This time, they're celebrating Jay-J's birthday - apparently as a Foundation reunion of sorts. Jay-J and your Salted residents Miguel and Julius will all be spinning on Saturday, and Lawrence Perry's familiar self will be hosting the night. Jay-J is familiar with how Salted likes to get down, so there shouldn't be much in the way of surprises tonight, just another fun night at Mighty of house! (AO)

Event: Super Silly Circus Birthday Bash
Venue: Monarch
DJs: Guillaume & The Contu Dumonts (live), Marc Schneider, Bells & Whistles
Music: tech-house
Cover: $5-25
It's Four Sweaters' second birthday and to celebrate they're throwing a bash that should be twice as much fun as their birthday! It's time to get weird with a circus theme so we can all party like carnies. Don't be afraid to get wacky with makeup or costumes as the crew brings Guillaume & the Contu Dumonts for an awesome live set. This Canadian producer who now lives in Berlin (where else) has released on labels like Circus Company (how appropriate), Floppy Funk, Musique Risquée and more. His sound veers from jazz to funk and always with a hearty dose of house and techno. Backing him up is Marc Schneider, a Hamburg "DJ's DJ". Finally, it wouldn't be a Four Sweaters party without a set from beloved resident Bells & Whistles. Happy birthday! (ML)

Event: Sure Thing w/ Jay Daniel & Natan H
Venue: Underground SF
DJs: Jay Daniel, Natan H, Aaron J
Music: house and techno (detroit, chicago, deep)
Cover: $5-15
Sure Thing is a new group producing events here in SF, and one that is really showing some promise at that. They were behind the Minimal Wave showcase at Public Works last month and are for sure going to pack the rave cave with this one featuring Jay Daniel and Natan H. Natan H is an LA/Chicago-based producer with a penchant for breathing new life into the Chicago house format. A producer whose releases have found their way into many of the bigger DJ's record bags, it remains a bit of a mystery to me how under the radar he still remains. Jay Daniel on the other hand may very well be the face of the new generation of Detroit producers. With a record landed on Theo Parrish's Sound Signature label and finding its way into all kinds of high-profile sets, this guy is for sure one to watch out for. Support will be held down by Sure Thing's Aaron J. UGSF is not big, this one might sell out. (AO)

Event: Werd
Venue: Monarch
DJs: David Siska, Zoz
Music: house, techno, tech-house, deep house
Cover: $5-10
This week Werd is having local David Siska take to the decks. Siska co-hosts the Sonicsunset radio show to many a listener's delight, but this guy is just as comfortable playing a packed party as programming a show - you may have seen him laying down support for BMG in Oakland last year. A San Francisco via Chicago transplant, David brings with him the anything-goes mentality of the latter and specializes in no small niche of dance music but rather weaves through seemingly disparate styles and tastes of house and techno rather seamlessly - jungle breaks, underground Detroit sounds, even Ibiza anthems. Zoz will be on support duty this time. (AO)
