Stompy + Sunset Independance
In these here parts, the Stompy + Sunset Independance party on 4th of July weekend is as American as fireworks and BBQ. Pretty much a shoe-in for a great time, this event always brings high quality talent to an outdoor/indoor, day-into-night summertime soiree that never disappoints. This year they're bringing in the two exceptional talents: French house mogul Jef K and one SF's own house music original legends, DJ Spun. Holding residencies at Paris' Rex Club and Open House, Fuse in Brussels, and Frankfurt's Robert Johnson--Jef K will be spinning his groovy, sexy house set inside Cafe Cocomo, with DJ Spun bringing his unique funky vibe to the outdoor patio. 4th of July at Pier 39
Sometimes you just want to go the traditional route--so thank goodness we've got our own full day of 4th of July family fun all ready to go from noon until 9:30pm--complete with three bands and a good old-fashioned fireworks display. Come on down to Pier 39 to hear beach pop sounds from Ruby Summer from noon-1pm, 90s hits with Club 90 from 2-4:30pm, and dance into the evening with SF's 80s cover band Tainted Love. When you're all band-ed out and the sun has set, settle in with a blanket and some hot cocoa as you watch the City of San Francisco's spectacular fireworks display over the Bay. Fillmore Jazz Festival
The Fillmore Jazz festival kicks off this weekend in the historic jazz district of Western Addition. From Jackson to Eddy enjoy walking along Fillmore Street listening to a handful of stages featuring up-and-coming jazz fusion acts, Latin-flavored music, veteran crooners, and seasoned jazz artists playing classics and jazz standards. The eight block long festival will also feature paintings, pottery, gourmet food, and other arts and crafts. Come out and groove to old jazz favorites and the jazz fusion sounds of today. Rising from his DJ beginnings at London's Milk Bar and Ministry of Sound, Edwards has been a regular contributor to the dance music landscape since the early 90s. Along with his own productions (under multiple monikers) he's remixed everyone from Bob Sinclair and Benny Benassi to Jay-Z, Sean Paul and Kylie Minogue. Xhin most recently found a home to release his dark, intense, and experimental sounds with Berlin's Stroboscopic Artefacts label, and SF's Clint Stewart and Marc Smith paired up on a foundation laid down in thick heavy drums, lush melodies and atmospherics to form Safeword.
