Folsom Street Fair
The grandest fetish fest of them all, the Folsom Street Fair is set to rock your world and spank your ass this Sunday down in SOMA. Put on a pair of chaps, make sure your slave's harness is on tight and strut your kinky self at the largest leather event in the world. Even if leather isn't your thing, you can still wear your vanilla street clothes and take part in the freaky fun (some people like to be watched, you know). On top of fetish booths and BDSM demonstrations there will also be lots of food & drinks, art, and music, including live bands and DJs, not to mention the many pre- and post-Folsom parties this weekend. Never been spanked you say? There's no better place than Folsom to give it a shot. Who knows, you might like it. Date: Sun 9/26, Time: 11am-6pm, Place: Folsom St (from 7th to 12th), Cover: donation, More Info (EB)

Sunset Party - a Civic Picnic
Guess what? The mid-term elections are happening this year--and while not a presidential election--it so happens that these ones actually matter too. The 2010 midterm election will be held on Tuesday, November 2 with at least 36 of the 100 seats in the Senate being contested and all House seats coming up for election. A vote in the mid-term elections will determine whether or not the
White House agenda for the next two years is conceivable. So, to get the word out and create awareness, the Sunset folks will be at Civic Center Plaza for their traditional voter registration and issue awareness event this Sunday. Find out about the issues from The League of Pissed Off Voters and register to vote before it's too late with Yen L. Do and Corean Todd. This may possibly be the last Sunset free outdoor event of the season so come out and do your civic duty while enjoying the classic good times vibe of the Sunset parties. Date: Sun 9/26, Time: 1-7:30pm, Place: Civic Center Plaza, Cover: no cover, More Info (JE)

Copyright Criminals
Is sampling recorded music to create new works a form of artistic expression or, quite simply, a crime? Copyright Criminals' three-tiered event attempts to tackle these issue with a panel discussion, film screening and live show featuring the talents of Steinski (live), Amp Live, The Polish Ambassador, Kid Kameleon, LoveTechSF, Joe Mousepad and Slayers Club DJ's. As seen on PBS's Independent Lens and at the Toronto International Film Festival, Copyright Criminals takes a close look at the creative and legal implications of sampling music in the digital age through the eyes of well-known
artists, activists and industry insiders. Come early to catch the film screening at 8:30pm, then the panel discussion begins at 9:30pm featuring interviews with Clyde Stubblefield ("The Funky Drummer"), Chuck D of Public Enemy, DJ Shadow and more, followed by a dance party headlined by notorious underground hip-hop duo Steinski performing live. Public Works Opening Weekend
From the makers of Mighty comes another club between the Mission and SOMA designed to be a community-driven space for music, art, film and creativity. Former New Yorker, Peter Glikshtern has been on a roll opening popular clubs in San Francisco since the late 90's. He started with Liquid (which became Pink and is now Som), then Club Six, Mighty, and now Public Works. If you've walked by Mission and 14th you may have noticed their brand new mural by famed British street artist Banksy. For their going public celebration, Public Works has three parties lineup this weekend featuring both international and local talent. Friday will warm up the weekend nicely with local favorites like Jeno, Conor, and Little John. Saturday night goes big with a stacked international lineup featuring two headliners: Mary Anne Hobbes from BBC Radio 1 and the cutting edge duo Mount Kimbie from London. Then on Sunday, Public Works caps off the weekend with a downright kinky Folsom afterparty hosted by the DJs from Honey Soundsystem. Date: Fri 9/24-Sun 9/26, Time: varies, Place: Public Works (161 Erie St), Cover: varies, More Info (EB)
