Sunday Streets - Western Addition Route
Did you know that Sunday Streets originated in Bogota, Columbia? It started as a day to promote freedom, health, and community oriented events over 30 years ago, and now San Francisco has taken the concept and made it our own. Today it comes to the Western Addition traversing the North Panhandle, Fillmore, and Japantown and brightening the streets with healthy activities like massage and exercise programs, various pet programs, music, dancing, DIY art projects, live music, information booths, cooking demonstrations, a roller rink, a mural project, yoga and meditation, and a WHOLE lot more going on from 10am-3pm. As always the route will be a 'soft closure' with cross traffic allowed at a limited number of points along the route. There's something for everyone here, so come on out and enjoy your streets! Jerry Springer the Opera
America's trashiest, most outrageous talk show is coming to San Francisco! Well, almost. The popular British musical Jerry Springer: The Opera will open a six-week-long run at the Victoria Theatre in the Mission for its California debut. With Jerry Springer's television show, you never know how crazy or absurd the drama will get and the musical version doesn't disappoint. The show is almost completely sung (except for a couple speeches) with plenty of profanity, irreverent themes, and surreal images including a tap dance number by the Ku Klux Klan. Come see how wild the drama gets and come ready to boo, cheer, laugh and cry! Date: Wed--Sat from 9/15--10/16, Time: 8pm, Place: Victoria Theatre, Cover: $25-36, link More Info (EB)

Burning Man Recap
We finally made it back from the Playa's dusty high desert utopia last week and are still trying to adjust back into default civilian life. Without a doubt, this year's Burn will go down in history as one of the best yet. Virgins and veterans alike were blown away by Metropolis 2010's city construction (particularly the Temple of Flux), breathtaking artwork (Bliss Dance), interactive installations (Syzygryd), hilarious showmanship (Ein Hammer), clever and whacky theme camps, bass-booming sound camps, and the citizens' serious commitment to radical self-reliance and goofy costumed nonsense. As a place overflowing with loving energy, open hearts, and synchronicities, Burning Man is a spectacular playground inviting all to explore and take part in. From dancing on fire-breathing art cars and climbing to the top of the Thunderdome to playing four-story-tall Tetris, stumbling across a silent movie theatre in deep playa and finding the mobile diner serving pancakes at sunrise, Black Rock City is a magical place difficult to explain to someone who hasn't been there. Only about 345 more days in the default world until we can go home once again to Rites of Passage 2011. Until then enjoy photos from this year's Metropolis. (EB)
