Sunset Summer Boat Party
By now we should all be familiar with the reasons why the Sunset Boat Parties are so special--in a nutshell: good vibes, good music, and majestic scenery coming together in a unique way and reminding us just how lucky we really are to be able to enjoy it all. Lending their musical talents to today's party are Italian disco house producer and inspiring force in the early electronic dance scene Alexander Robotnick and the virtuosic, experimental/minimal techno artist Bruno Pronsato performing live, as well as Mike Bee and seasoned deck hands J-Bird, Solar, and Galen. Come out and get on the boat for another grand adventure on the Bay, Sunset style (and be sure to bring some layers!). Date: Sun 8/15, Time: 5pm--11pm, Place: San Francisco Spirit, board at Pier 3 (Washington at Embarcadero), Cover: $40 presale, link More Info (JE)

Outside Lands
Pray for sunshine in the Sunset this weekend because the biggest music festival in San Francisco is coming to rock Golden Gate Park. For its third year, Outside Lands has two full days of music with Further, The Strokes, and DJ Dan headlining Saturday, and Phoenix, Kings of Leon and Donald Glaude headlining Sunday. For electronic music, head to the Inspire stage in the polo field where most DJs will perform, but be on the look out for artists at other stages like People Under The Stairs, Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, and Chromeo. Aside from the awesome music, you can visit Eco Lands, the solar-powered epicenter of the festival, and get a taste of the Bay Area with delicious treats from award-winning food vendors and libations from local vineyards at Winelands. Parking will be near-impossible, so plan on walking, biking (complimentary bike valet), or using public transportation. Date: Sat 8/14 & Sun 8/15, Time: Sat 11am-10pm, Sun 11am-9:20pm, Place: Speedway Meadow & polo field, Golden Gate Park, Cover: single day $75, 2-day $140, link More Info (EB)

DIYbca: A Big Idea Night
As if San Francisco was short on the weird and wacky, along comes another incredibly unique event which promises to get your creative juices flowing while simply providing a great night out. Part art show, performance piece, craft night and dance party rolled into one--DIYbca encourages you to redesign your reality with a spectrum of super fun activities. Crafty ladies and gentlemen can get their hands dirty by making their own instruments with Bay Area experimental music godfathers Kwisp, by customizing a pair of old shoes with Mrs. Vera's Sole Makeover, or perhaps creating a stencil with master public art interventionist Jeremy Novy. Of course you'll also be able to check out the DIY exhibit TechnoCRAFT that stands as the inspiration for the evening, as well as get a taste of November's "The Success of Failure" with a performance by Cynthia Hopkins or bliss out in Jewlia Eisenberg's Bowls Project. Get inspired to sweat with 80s workout videos from TV Carnage and let loose on the dance floor to DJ collective LoveTechSF or--perhaps the one thing we think makes the entire evening worth it--The Institute for Aesthletic's Drinking and Dancing Competition. Can anyone say, "only in San Francisco?" Date: Sat 8/14, Time: 9pm--2am, Place: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Cover: no cover w/ rsvp, link More Info (JE)
