Sunset Campout 2010
Sunset parties are usually at Golden Gate Park or at Stafford Lake, where you spend Sunday with hundreds of your closest friends. But now PacificSound brings the ultimate in Sunset party: the 3-day campout. Three days of body-shaking music, fun in the sun, good vibes and great people. Dan Curtin brings his techy, chunky, vocal-laced tracks, while keeping true to his eclectic style. Detroit's own Stacey Pullen drops the classic techno flavor he's cultivated so well, as Konrad Black rocks his dirty bass sound. No Sunset Campout is complete without PacificSound residents, so a few'll work the 1s and 2s. Ursula Xanthe Young will paint live along with NoMe EDONNA, Sovereign and Romanowski. And as if this wasn't relaxing enough, Erika Van Gemeren host Detox Flow and Vinyasa yoga classes for your flexibility pleasure. As always, this is just a tease of what's to come, but if you enjoy Sunset parties, how could you go wrong with this? Date: Fri 7/16- Sun 7/18, Time: Fri 12pm--Sun 6pm, Place: 15000 Belden Town Rd (Belden, CA 95915), Cover: $108, link More Info (CQ)

Bastille Day
In a city without any really veritable French culture, Bastille Day is a bit like any other "cultural" celebration for San Franciscans--an excuse to drink in the streets and lay claim to some distant hereditary connection while sporting the archetypal colors and garb of said culture. No matter-- don a beret and booze it up down at Belden Place--the small, cafe-lined alley that has become "the" spot for Bastille Day despite a recent history of crackdowns on the festivities from things getting a bit out of hand. There will be DJs and French food and wine for sure--but beyond that the specifics are a bit of a mystery. If you're interested in more of a themed experience, you might want to check out some of the city's other special events: Show off your most fabulous Parisian burlesque attire and enjoy $1 oysters and $1 French pastries while listening to great French music by Julius Papp and Pedro Notori at RN74; enjoy a four-course dinner, a Marie Antoinette impersonator, live accordion music, and complimentary cake at Grand Cafe; take yourself to another (more enthused) block party outside Taverna Aventine with DJs Frenchy Le Freak, Josh Dukes, and caterers slinging sidewalk baguettes; or expand your knowledge of European art at ArtPoint's "French Kiss" Bastille Day Bash at the De Young with an open bar, French-inspired fare, and music from Bardot A Go Go. Joyeux Quatorze Julliet! Date: Wed 7/14, Time: varies, Place: Belden Place, Cover: no cover, link More Info (JE)

New Frequencies: Watcha Clan w/ Charming Hostess
Spend an evening at YBCA this Sunday for a genre-bending explosion of nomadic-inspired music with Berber, Algerian, Sephardic, Ashkenazi and French influences. The Watcha Clan's carefully created "controlled choas in action" is renowned for its hot rhythms, eerie harmonies, and radical braininess. Joining them is Charming Hostess, founded by Jewlia Eisenberg, which combines music from the Jewish and African diasporas. Experience a musical event outside the norm this weekend! Date: Sun 7/18, Time: 8pm, Place: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Cover: $20 members, $25 non-members, link More Info (EB)

Zykes' Bonetone Massif
Primitive Science presents a campout filled with delicious beats and tasty treats. Zykes' Bonetone Massif boasts twenty PS residents working the decks, keeping it funky all morning, noon and night. Kick off begins Friday at sundown with Dirty Ricky and Mr. Rise dropping deep, dark sounds and heavy basslines. Big E and Ch play glitchy, dirty dubstep while R3M, E-Light and East Bay Jay rock out until 8 am. If you're up, enjoy the hotcakes provided by PS, which will re-energize you, or at least get you to bed on a full stomach. Saturday starts off right with Teknotik DJ and Hoax rocking the soul crunching, bass-laden electro breaks, while Elbereth, Dato and Mike B drop booty-shaking, throbbing breaks. Keeping the "family" vibe alive, the weekend also includes a potluck dinner, followed by Bonetone Massif games. Head out to Bonetone to catch all talented acts scheduled to play! Date: Fri 7/16- Sun 7/17, Time: Fri 9pm- Sun 11am, Place: tba (NorCal location), Cover: no cover, link More Info (CQ)
