The Art of Noise
From unearthly photographs of contemporary music makers and their iconic mugshots silk-screened as symbols of status to pieces that incorporate the elements associated with music (CDs, drugs, lyrics) into traditional declarations of patriotism--The Art of Noise celebrates artists who are inspired to create work that traverses the two timeless muses of Art and Music. The event is one of two art shows kicking off Noise Pop 2010, and includes work by Lionel Deluy, Jillian Kogan, and Russell Young with musical performances transformed into permanent pieces of art by Ted Riederer. What, you were expecting an avant-garde synthpop 80's band? Date: Fri 2/19, Time: 7-10pm, Place: Project One (251 Rhode Island), Cover: no cover, link More Info (JE)

Endless Dreams and Time-Based Streams
Renée Green's exhibitions, videos, and films have been seen throughout the world in museums, galleries, biennials, and festivals. Endless Dreams and Time-Based Streams is an exhibition of her works in two projects: United Space of Conditioned Becoming--a survey that features videos, objects, events, and lectures produced over a 15-year span, and her most recent multi-media project, Endless Dreams and Water Between, which includes short films, drawings, banners, audio projects, a window installation at street level, and texts by scholars, artists, and theorists. Tonight's opening night party features music by DJ Scott Soriano, LA's Wounded Lion, and Oakland's Colossal Yes, plus live acid-trip projections by Liquid Light! Come to the party dressed in blue and you'll be entered to win a gift package courtesy of Blue Turtle Spa. Date: Fri 2/19, Time: 8-11pm, Place: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Cover: $12 presale, $15 door, link More Info (JE)

Bootie w/ Hubba Hubba Revue
Bootie is back at DNA Lounge after spending last month at Mezzanine and they are ready to rage it. The Bootie parties have been so in demand as of late that they've added another party to their monthly schedule. That means three chances every month to shake it to Bootie's dance-tastic mashups. To inaugurate their 3rd Saturday party, they've prepared a special mashup burlesque show with the crew from Hubba Hubba Revue, which promises to be a mashed-up mix of striptease, comedy, glittering spectacle, and variety acts. Freaks, Punks, Skanks & Cranks
Starting this Thursday, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts will begin a five-part series of films that explore an unforgettable array of personalities and subcultures. The first film in the series, "San Francisco Punks and Beyond," showcases the work of Joe Rees, who founded Target Video in 1977 and documented punk and art bands in the era before MTV. A second film from Target Video shows rare, early documentation of the Survival Research Laboratories experimenting with robots, machines, and special effects to create socio-political satire. "Scarlet Diva" by Asia Argento is a debaucherous semi-autobiography of a young Italian actress who takes her Eurotrash lifestyle to the max. Jeff Sumerel's film "To My Great Chagrin," honors the life of one of history's remarkable performers, "Brother Theodore." And lastly, "Gold," is a dose of hippie counterculture that "is basically a deranged psychedelic desert romp set in the Old West" featuring tripped-out flower children, sing-a-longs, right-wing conspirators, tinted and solarized film stock, and plenty of naked writhing in the dust. Date: Thur 2/18--Sat 2/27, Time: varies, Place: Yerba Buena Center, Cover: $10, link More Info (EB)
