New Year's Eve 2010
If the calendar wasn't staring us in the face, we'd be hard-pressed to believe a full 365 days has gone by since last year. Maybe our party days are finally catching up with us, or perhaps it's just been an exceptionally eventful 12 months (that's what we're telling ourselves). In any case--the year has come and gone in a flash, and once again we are faced with the ominous question: What are you doing for New Year's? No city knows how party quite like this one, and with New Year's Eve famously holding it's place at the top as the affair to top all affairs, there are a dizzying array of events to choose from. Lucky for all you midnight revelers, we have compiled the cream of the crop of NYE festivities right here in one spot, so you can rest assured you will find the vibe you seek for this unparalleled evening, and guarantee you'll be welcoming the new year in style. The collection is as diverse as it is exceptional-- whether it's upscale swank or underground funk, velvet rope or costume-encouraged - it's all here, and everything in between. So whatever your poison, have a good one, and we'll see you on the dancefloor in 2010. More Info (JE)

2009 - The Year as It Was...
As we say goodbye to another year of late nights and good times, we also bid farewell to another decade of dancing to our favorite beats. The years from 2000 to 2009 saw the comeback of disco and electro, the emergence of countless new electronic genres like dubstep, fidget house, minimal techno, and electronic indie rock (aka new rave), and the continued flourishing of the SF nightlife. To say the least, it has been a phenomenal decade for electronic music (even if it hasn't been a superb decade overall). From technological innovations in DJ equipment to the rise of an internet-fueled global dance music community, the beats we love have evolved and traveled to nearly every corner of the world. Here in San Francisco, the DJ Mecca land of the west coast, we are so lucky to have hundreds of stellar local DJs and top-of-the-line visiting artists from around the world rock the turntables in our clubs seven days a week. The underground scene, however, has been hit hard recently with cops busting parties left and right. It's imperative that we work hard to keep that fire blazin' because the underground scene is where electronic music was created in the first place! We've sorted through all the photos from the last year into a gallery of our favorite moments from epic marathon parties, intimate dance-offs, stunning fashion shows, the LovEvolution parade and festival, Miami's Winter Music Conference, and the yearly pilgrimage to the dusty wonderland of Black Rock City. So long 2009! We had a blast. So with that, we leave you with 2009 - The Year as it was… Year Book Photo Gallery. (EB)

Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music
The dizzying array of countless electronic dance music genres can be overwhelming and confusing, especially for a newbie, but even for a seasoned EDM fan. Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music tracks the history of house, trance, techno, breakbeat, jungle, hardcore, and downtempo in an easy to read chart with humorous, candid descriptions and explanations, including iconic musical examples. Our very own Miguel Migs made the chart under the deep house sub-genre with his track "Petalpushing." Although the last few years of musical evolution haven't been added yet, this site gives the best comprehensive and interactive guide to electronic music history anywhere on the web. We've featured this site before, but they've updated recently with a brand new tutorial we thought you might like to read. Now whenever you hear a critic of dance music say "it all just sounds the same," you'll have an arsenal of info to prove them wrong! More Info (EB)
