Santacon
You know something's bound to be mischievously fun when the first rule on the Santacon website is, "Santa does not make children cry...if you see kids, don't do anything to freak them out." Which all seems fair, seeing as this irreverent cavalcade of merry pranksters does just about everything else to drop mayhem and bewilderment upon an unsuspecting town in a way only thousands of cavorting adults all dressed as Santa can do (though their second rule, "don't f**k with cops," should be noted). What began in San Francisco (of course it did) in 1994 as a night of Kringle chaos has now reached global phenomenon status, no doubt because it's simply huge fun. Grab a suit and join in. Date: Sat 12/12, Time: 11:30am--?, Place: tba, Cover: no cover (bring cash for bar stops), link More Info (JE)

Ride a biodiesel bus with couches, a dancefloor and a sound system and learn about our universe from the experts. Dance to the deep, head-nodding beats and dirty analog basslines of Dr. Toast and the eclectic sounds of Alxndr, then hop out in Marin where the bus ends up to scan the sky with telescopes for heavenly sights. If only school could have been like this. Date: Thurs 12/10, Time: 8pm-midnight, Place: The Bus Stop Gallery (135 Dore St, Unit C, btwn 9th & 10th St), Cover: $27, link More Info (JE)
