Holiday shopping aside, San Francisco's long-running sample sale and artist haven is a uniquely cool event that brings together 180 local Painters and Photograhers and 80 local fashion designers under one roof to make available to you their exclusive goods, all while providing good beats and tasty cocktails so you can chill as you peruse. Handmade Ho-down
Come one, come all to the first San Francisco Craftstravaganza, Handmade Ho Down Urban Craft Fair. Be a part of this first ever Etsy-sponsored, urban craft show; and buy local this holiday season, while supporting Drawbridge, a non-profit that brings art programs to disadvantaged youth! Winterfest
Nothing says "winter" to a classy San Franciscan like DJs, beer, art, and over 1,000 bicycle friendly party folk gathering together for a festive evening to celebrate the growth of San Francisco bicycling. The hottest bike party of the year is the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's annual tribute to its 10,000-plus members and a massive fundraiser to help them continue all the good they do ensuring SF cyclists have a comfortable, safe and dignified ride about town by consistently improving city biking conditions. Dark Party is the electronic dance project of Brooklyn-based beats producer Eliot Lipp and his Chicago-based friend Leo 123. This chick is soulful and everyone knows it. She's lent vocals to tracks by Aceyalone and Zion I, appeared on Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz series, and has been remixed by numerous house producers including heavy hitters like Quentin Harris and DJ Spinna. Tonight rejoice for the Bay Area's own Goapele. Although she has a refreshingly new sound, inspiration can be heard by female vocalists like Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Erkah Badu and Sade, so if you're down with that you're about to go bananas. The American first lady of trance, Sandra Collins, emerged against the odds in a European male dominated field to become a DJ celebrated worldwide. From her humble beginnings spinning industrial techno and acid house in Phoenix during the early 90's, she later became enthralled by the uplifting melodies and inspiring rhythms of trance music. But she says she won't toe the line of one genre or another and refuses to be pigeonholed into the crowd's expectations which gives her sets her own unique sound. (EB)

Joining the [KONTROL] residents this month at their regular raging techno mararthon are two reknowned DJs making their SF debuts! Long overdue to grace SF with his beat mixing prowess, Argy exploded on the scene in 2005 with his "Love Dose" EP on Poker Flat. Function aka Dave Summer has been a respected name in techno for a decade and now lives in Berlin where he set up the highly popular Sandwell District imprint. Coming to Ruby Skye this Saturday, from the famous duo Gabriel & Dresden, is the man himself, Dave Dresden! Although tonight is a solo show, Dave has been working with a new beat-making partner, Mikael Johnston, since December of last year. The new duo called Dresden & Johnston produced a remix for Lily Allen's "The Fear," which hit #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play Charts in March of '09. Since then they've remixed for Nadia Ali, BT, The Crystal Method, and Owl City. Expect original material from them in 2010, but expect some good dancing tunes from Dresden tonight! (EB)

Matt Darey is back in town to promote his latest single with his band Urban Astronauts called "See the Sun," which came out just before Thanksgiving. Darey got his start with music as a kid in a guitar band, then later switched to clubbing in college. He's also working on an album with the band and describes it as "taking influence from some of my favorite indie, alternative & rock bands and fusing them with EDM." He doesn't stick to one genre when he's DJing either, so expect to hear him to bounce between styles. (EB)
