Dark Party is the electronic dance project of Brooklyn-based beats producer Eliot Lipp and his Chicago-based friend Leo 123. Mighty presents the return of Special Disco Version with guest DJ Pat Mahoney of LCD SoundSystem. Special Disco Version is an old term for a dance interpretation of a pop song, now known as a remix. It was frequently printed on a circular sticker and slapped on the record's sleeve, left for James Murphy and Mahoney to discover 30 years later as they plumbed the bins at New York record stores. Function aka Dave Summer has been a respected name in techno for a decade and now lives in Berlin where he set up the highly popular Sandwell District imprint. Coming to Ruby Skye this Saturday, from the famous duo Gabriel & Dresden, is the man himself, Dave Dresden! Although tonight is a solo show, Dave has been working with a new beat-making partner, Mikael Johnston, since December of last year. The new duo called Dresden & Johnston produced a remix for Lily Allen's "The Fear," which hit #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play Charts in March of '09. Since then they've remixed for Nadia Ali, BT, The Crystal Method, and Owl City. Expect original material from them in 2010, but expect some good dancing tunes from Dresden tonight! (EB) |
