Before Style Wars this Saturday at Mezzanine, Mighty is starting a feisty clothes battle earlier in the week with Fashion Feud, a live "Project Runway" competition. Designers get an hour to create and prepare for a walk-off with models displaying their newly designed outfits. Before Lee Douglas became a global jet-setting DJ, he was getting by as an illustrator and designer in Brooklyn. After producing the track "Same Changes" and "Our Song," he caught the attention of DJ Spun from Rong Music who shared it with the disco-loving NYC community. Since that stellar debut he's rocked dancefloors all over the world with his wildly eclectic sets playing everything from psychedelic rock, house, funk, acid and, of course, some disco gold. It is with profound and acute sadness that we bid farewell to Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs, masterful drummer and loyal friend to many. Having earned admiration for his dexterous digits drumming for such bands as !!!, Maserati, LCD Soundsystem, Turing Machine, the Martians, and The Juan MacLean, Jerry touched the lives of many people, not only with his musical prowess, but also thanks to his disarming authenticity and irresistibly fun-loving nature. A force of nature unto himself, he shall be sorely missed. Due to this overwhelming tragedy, The Juan MacLean will not be performing as a band tonight as scheduled; however, the band's founder and frontman, Juan MacLean, will be appearing for an exclusive tribute DJ set to commemorate and honor the memory of his friend and bandmate. All proceeds from the benefit will be donated to the family of Jerry Fuchs. In the meantime, we send our sincerest condolences to Jerry's family, loved ones, bandmates, and to the entire DFA crew. Swirling in from LA, turntabalist wizard Nu-Mark is in town tonight. Although a turntablist by trade, he is probably best known as the former co-producer of Jurassic 5 (along side Cut Chemist). He is also known for his onstage antics: scratching on a 6 turntable DJ rig, wearing a turntable like a necklace and scratching it around the stage, as well as, hooking up a rubber band to the turntable needle and playing it like a stand up bass.
