The event presents over 100 independent designers and artisans selling their wares, free style tips from designers, fashion show and live performances, photobooth, drink specials, and an eco section dedicated exclusively to eco-fashion and sustainability. They've even got a "design your own tee" station and a clothes swap section set up for your excellent-condition designer digs--truly fitting their mantra of "good value, good style, good karma." Style Wars
House of Dehli comes back to SF for their second installment of Style Wars since 2007. Each designer gets five minutes to design something on the spot on stage directly on the model who will show off the speedy creation to the crowd immediately afterward. Tonight's 2009 Bay Area competition features 8 local designers who will bring their nerves of steel to cut, tape, pin, and drape outfits together faster than you can get dressed in the morning. Their fashion innovations will use vintage garments, random fabrics, household items, and anything they can use to make the fiercest five-minute fashions. DJs Pase Rock and Richie Panic will keep the party tunes spinning as the designers work their magic. Date: Sat 11/21, Time: 9pm, Place: Mezzanine, Cover: $12 presale, $15 door, More Info (EB)
NightLife at the CAOS
Hipsters with a nerdy streak have been making Thursday nights at the Academy of Sciences very popular. It's no surprise, really. Who doesn't want to look at pretty fish, see an albino alligator, and watch the universe unfold in front of their eyes in a state-of-the-art planetarium--all while sipping on some cocktails and dancing to some groovy beats? Tonight, musical guests Mozaic, Cumulus, and SciFly will be providing a nice bag of fearless, bass-heavy, downtempo, glitch, dub, and hip-hop treats, and a "Science in Action" panel will be discussing how local governments are tackling climate change and how you can help their efforts. Culture and entertainment in one--what more could you ask for? Date: Thur 11/19, Time: 6pm-10pm, Place: California Academy of Sciences, Cover: $12, More Info (JE) |

Music: techno, electro, microhouse, experimental
Cover: $12.50 presale |
It is with profound and acute sadness that we bid farewell to Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs, masterful drummer and loyal friend to many. Having earned admiration for his dexterous digits drumming for such bands as !!!, Maserati, LCD Soundsystem, Turing Machine, the Martians, and The Juan MacLean, Jerry touched the lives of many people, not only with his musical prowess, but also thanks to his disarming authenticity and irresistibly fun-loving nature. A force of nature unto himself, he shall be sorely missed. Due to this overwhelming tragedy, The Juan MacLean will not be performing as a band tonight as scheduled; however, the band's founder and frontman, Juan MacLean, will be appearing for an exclusive tribute DJ set to commemorate and honor the memory of his friend and bandmate. All proceeds from the benefit will be donated to the family of Jerry Fuchs. In the meantime, we send our sincerest condolences to Jerry's family, loved ones, bandmates, and to the entire DFA crew. He is also known for his onstage antics: scratching on a 6 turntable DJ rig, wearing a turntable like a necklace and scratching it around the stage, as well as, hooking up a rubber band to the turntable needle and playing it like a stand up bass. Who knows what or how he'll play out of his collection of over 35,000 records! He's so good, he'll color you bad! Tick tock, you don't stop! (WF)

This week Temple Saturdays is getting an extra party-rocking boost from Chicago duo Santiago & Bushido and their blend of tech-tinged, electro-flavored house beats. Since teaming up in 2003, S&B produced a solid slew of EPs, including the popular track "Headtrick" which was the 8th most downloaded song on Beatport in 2008. Their harder sound draws from a Chicago house background and adds newer and heavier electro/techno influences to create truly jackin' beats. (EB)
