Treasure Island Music Festival
Back in town for its third year, TIMF has established itself as one of SF's most successful music events, bringing in 2 days of great lineups and tons of unique, fun-packed activities and offerings set amongst the best panoramic views of the city. With acronymic bands MGMT and MSTRKRFT leading Saturday's electronic/dance oriented lineup, and classic alternative rock faves The Flaming Lips and Yo La Tengo heading the Indie-centric lineup on Sunday, plus Girl Talk, The Streets, The Decemberists, The Walkmen and more rounding out the bill for both days, it's a safe bet that whatever your musical penchants this will be a fabulous way to end the summer music season with a bang. Sunset Party Season Finale
Well now, what's a little rain this week to keep us from our beloved free day parties in the park? Forecast says 61 degrees and partly sunny for Sunday, so break our your hoops, your picnic blankets, and some good old fashioned nostalgia, because this is the season finale of the cherished Sunset Parties. It's true--the season is over and fall is creeping in (in case you hadn't noticed). Get in some of those famous good vibes and make a few more summer memories to last you through the year. Residents J-Bird, Solar, and Galen will be there rockin' it as per usual, along with special guests in tow. It's even in Golden Gate Park this time, so you've really got no excuse! SF DocFest
The 8th Annual SF Documentary Film Festival is back with another two weeks of new documentaries from around the world. Of the hundreds of submissions 38 features and 22 shorts made the cut, including "Dust & Illusions" the latest Burning Man film, "Speaking in Code" an intimate account of a married couple that follow their favorite techno DJs around the world, "I Need that Record!" which tries to track down the cause of record store closures, "American Artifact" which explores rock poster art and artists from the Bay Area, and "The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virgina" to add a little 'WTF?' to the festival. Rock your Doc experience with the opening night party on Friday the 16th at Four Barrel Coffee and the costumed Roller Disco Party at CellSpace the following Friday the 23rd. Cool Black Ball
Start your Halloween celebration early with the Fillmore's first ever Cool Black Ball featuring hip black haute couture from the 1920's to '50s. Tonight's fashion party event is all about the classy and sexy vintage styles from the Jazz decades of the first half of the 20th Century. Booming onto the world's stage in 2002 with his debut album Deadringer, this lo-fi sheik, beat master is still making the rounds and 2 albums later still sounds as fresh as day one.  This globetrotter is known best for his versatile style of weaving folk, blues and jazz into the inner fibers of the underground hip-hop sound and aesthetic. One of the most respected live acts in the world, Dubtribe Sound System performed live house music with sit-in and bring-along percussionists, poets, painters, singers, and other musicians from 1991-2005, carrying a message of artistic, political, and personal expression in the environment of rave and DJ culture. Tonight they break a 5-year silence to perform at Temple Fridays, bringing that firey energy to the dancefloor once again. This is surely a night you will not want to miss. (JE)

Shane King and DJ Morale from Hacksaw Entertainment will bring the 'boom-boom' to the main room at Jelly's with dirty electro, while killer dubstep, dancehall, glitch, and breaks goes off on the outdoor patio. If you missed him today at the Treasure Island Music Festival there are plenty more antics in store tonight at Mezzanine with none other than social weirdo Dan Deacon.  Deacon has garnered a reputation in the underground as an intense performer and classic showman. The table top full of pedals, sine wave generator, vocoder and casio blasting through the PA, joined by a makeshift light board with various bulbs and green skull strobe light, make this all out dance-til-you-drop performance a mind blowing, tweeked out, acid trip of an experience. The Show has dominated every third Saturday of the month for the past two years with killer DJs and and an amazing following. For their 2 Year Anniversary they're presenting special guest Victor Calderone who will play an extended set of seamless crowd-pleasing tracks. During his rocket-fueled leap into fame he remixed for some of the biggest names in the business like Madonna, Sting, Destiny's Child, Mandalay, Garbage and Elton John.
