Decompression '09
Despite the fact that the exodus from Burning Man to San Francisco is about as jolting as leaving the moon and returning to Mars (how many furry-seated bicycles do YOU see parked in the Mission year-round?), plenty of recently returned revelers count on Decompression to ease their shaken souls back into the default world. Here, burners can re-experience fragments of their fading desert memories, with 12 hours of art, performance, fire, dance, theme camps, circus acts, marching bands, Burning Man 2009 imagery, and more, helping to keep the spirit alive. Do not despair--there is life after the playa, and it's called Decompression. Reignite the flame, reacquaint yourself with the dust, and reconnect with all the people of the community. Date: Sun 10/11, Time: noon-midnight, Place: Indiana St btwn Mariposa & 22nd St, Cover: $10 playa costume, $20 streetwear, link More Info (JE)

How to Survive the Apocalypse: A Burning Opera
In uncanny synchronicity with the timing of Decompression, the cast and crew of "How to Survive the Apocalypse" will take over Teatro Zinzanni's marvelous waterfront "spiegeltent" beginning Oct. 5th for a limited run of their poignant and hilariously accurate exploration of the inherent conflicts and painful paradoxes of Burning Man itself. Designed to communicate the culture of Burning Man to wider audiences, HTSTA is a theatrical freak-out that combines rock opera, vaudeville, and a Dionysian revival show--a ferociously inventive radically altered evening of musical theater perfect for the "burning curious," as well as the experienced and the most jaded playa faithful. Date: Oct 5-7, 12-14, and 19-20, Time: 7:30pm, Place: Teatro Zinzanni (Pier 29, Embarcadero at Battery), Cover: $35-$300, link More Info (JE)

Fleet Week
This weekend the Blue Angels are taking over the skies of San Francisco for Fleet Week's annual celebration of the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The spectacle attracts over a million people every year, so you'll want to head down to the water early to grab a good spot. You can also buy premium box seats on the waterfront, VIP tickets, and cruise tickets that take you out in the Bay. As soon as you see the Blue Angels doing their dazzling twists, turns, and tricky formations, you'll forget all about your political and environmental concerns. Go red, white, and blue! Date: Thur 10/8--Tue 10/13, Time: varies, Place: SF waterfront, Cover: no cover, link More Info (EB)
