Folsom Street Fair
If you thought you were kinky in bed, you may want to think again and head down to the Folsom Street Fair, the largest leather/fetish festival in the world. If you're already part of the BDSM underworld, then don your freakiest bondage best and come above ground to show the world your leather pride. Back in the 70's, Folsom Street (aka "the miracle mile") was teeming with leather bars, gay clubs and bathhouses, but following the AIDS epidemic the city closed many of these establishments in the name of public health. To keep the leather community visible, activists organized the street fair, which also raises money for non-profit organizations like the AIDS Emergency Fund, New Leaf, the Queer Cultural Center, and many others. Many of the bars and clubs that are on Folsom today will be open and kicking with action, including Holy Cow's The Naughty Party. Leave the kids at home for this one, it's going to be wild! Date: Sun 9/27, Time: 11am-6pm, Place: Folsom St (btwn 7th St & 12th St), Cover: no cover, donations encouraged, link More Info (EB)

San Francisco’s Love Event Evolves into LovEvolution
Dance Music Parade & Festival Brings 100,000+ to Dance in the Streets October 3rd

San Francisco, CA – July 10, 2009 – You might call it a love revolution: more than 100,000 people dancing in the streets of SF on Saturday, October 3rd to celebrate peace, tolerance, respect and justice.

It’s the San Francisco LovEvolution : A Dance Music Parade and Festival, going on its sixth year. LovEvolution is an evolving event stemming from the original Love Parade in Berlin that began four months before the demolition of the Berlin wall. The first two years this dance music parade and festival in San Francisco was called Love Parade, the last three years it was named LoveFest, and this year we are LovEvolution (luv-oh-lution) – a new evolved name with the same aim of changing the world through music and dance.

A parade down Market Street pairs Technicolor costumed revelers on floats and in the streets with the best and most diverse set of DJs in the world. The moveable fest will flow all the way to Civic Center Plaza for America’s largest dance music event. LoveWeek starts September 30th with affiliated events all week.

“Call it what you want, but this is the love event of the year, thrown by the same team as the original Love Parade in San Francisco back in 2004,” remarked Joshua Smith, founding board member. “Last year over 100,000 people of all ages peacefully enjoyed the parade and festival, and this year we look forward to evolving this spirit and our love together.”

The dynamic team behind the event includes Joshua Smith, John Wood, Dr. Syd Gris and Terrance Alan, all of whom are committed to social activism, community and entertainment. Each member of the board brings their professional expertise combined with their passion for electronic dance music to put on San Francisco’s best party.

“Dance music has always had a special ability to bring people together in the shared beauty of a universal vibe and San Francisco has always been a city of evolution,” said Board Member and DJ Dr. Syd Gris. “The Gold Rush, the 1906 earthquake and fires, the SF Renaissance, the Beat Movement Social Revolution, civil-gay rights, the Summer of Love, anti-war protests, technology, social philanthropy and more are all moments in history that helped move this city forward. San Francisco is the perfect fit for showing the reach of dance music in America.”

San Francisco LovEvolution 2009 highlights the freedom of creative expression, as well as San Francisco’s role as the ultimate destination and Mecca of the underground electronic dance music scene. San Francisco LovEvolution : A Dance Music Parade and Festival is non-profit organization giving all profits to charities and back to the local community, and celebrates the ongoing evolution of community.

Earthdance
If the scene has all become a little too vapid for your conscientious mindset, perhaps Earthdance is calling. This festival, called "the most conscious global festival of our time" by Time Out Magazine, is a 3-day camp out for world peace and unity, set amidst a beautiful old growth oak forest, featuring 5 stages of entertainment uniting jamband, world, conscious lyricism, electronica, reggae, and folk. "Not just a festival focused on music, but rather a festival of spiritual consciousness, environmental and political activism and awareness," the festival also features a Global Artisans Market, Late Night Cinema, Healing Village, Kidlandia, Speakers Forum, Activist Alley, Workshops, and more! Check it out--your inner hippie-guru-yogi-activist-spirit child will thank you for it. Tour de Fat
New Belgium is not just your average adult beverage brewing company. On top of producing world-class beers, they also kindle social, environmental, and cultural change as a business role model--not least of which comes from their dedication to the bicycle, most famously lauded in their annual Tour de Fat. The grand car-free, 2-wheeled celebration starts off with a bike parade and continues with performances and festivities throughout the day, featuring the delightful ruckus of the March Fourth Marching Band, the vaudeville circus entertainment of The Squirm Burpee Circus, plus Sean Hayes, and the Honeymoon Cabaret. It's the most fun you'll ever have while helping to spread the good word about the postive societal offerings of the bicycle.
