Power to the Peaceful
From Bay Area born Michael Franti comes the 11th Annual Power to the Peaceful Festival--a unique event of music, arts, and action. Saturday's free program includes main stage performances by Franti and his band Spearhead, Alanis Morissette amongst others, and an open air DJ tent headed by Miguel Migs. The day also includes a special kidzone, "Conscious Carnival Games," face painting, a chill tent, puppets, a healing sanctuary, food & eco-product vendors, environmental and social organizations, and an art gallery. On Sunday, take that energy and inspiration and plug into 3 informative, fun, and life changing workshops followed by food, wine, beer and a concert with Michael Franti. The Crucible Open House
If you're feeling inspired by all the cool metal arts you might have seen lately, check out the Fall Open House for one of the Bay Area's main creative hubs for metal arts and performance--The Crucible--this weekend. In addition to an art show highlighting the talents of their students and faculty, there will be circus and fire performances, a firey metal pour in their foundry, tasty food and refreshments, exciting live demonstrations of welding, glass working, metal casting, and blacksmithing, and an expo of several amazing organizations committed to serving Oakland communities. San Francisco Fringe Festival
This Wednesday the 9th, the San Francisco Fringe Festival begins their 12 day theatre festival that explores the unique, unexpected, and uncensored side of indie theatre. They encourage artists to take risks and push boundaries with their unjuried format that allows total creative freedom. Close to 40 pieces will be performed at six different theaters most within walking distance of Union Square. With all tickets being $12 or less and multi-passes also available, this is a great and inexpensive opportunity to see something different while supporting local playwrights, directors and actors.
