Noise Pop 2009
From its humble beginnings in 1993, the Noise Pop Music Festival has grown into the largest indie rock event of the year, lasting a week and featuring dozens of musicians, artists, and filmmakers. Priding itself on bringing exposure to emerging artists, Noise Pop has featured many artists who have gone on to experience widespread acclaim, including the White Stripes and Modest Mouse. For their 17th anniversary, Noise Pop 2009 is better than ever with an ambitious, jam-packed schedule starting with Tuesday's opening night party at Mezzanine with Deerhunter and Lilofee. NAACP's 100 Yr Anniv. Celebration
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has been fighting for equity and civil rights for an entire century! After decades of battling prejudice and hatred, the NAACP has become one of America's most prominent and influential civil rights organizations. Tonight they're throwing the "Party for the Century" to celebrate the victories of the past 100 years, while recognizing that the struggle continues. Proceeds from the event will go to the NAACP Youth and College Division, which organizes young people for community service, voter registration, and political activism. Highly acclaimed Bay Area hip-hop duo Zion-I will be the special guests for the event, performing music from their brand new album, "The Take Over."
