Holiday Ice Rink
It wouldn't be the holidays without ice skating! For the first time ever, Union Square created a Holiday Ice Rink for the enjoyment of kids, parents, couples, hockey buffs, and anyone daring enough to put on ice skates. The rink opened on November 12th and will be open for the entire holiday season. Proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. But perhaps ice skating isn't your thing? Well, then I suggest going down to watch the less coordinated test their skills. Nothing says Christmas like watching the tourists take spills on the ice! Date: everyday until Jan. 4th, Time: 10am-10pm Sun-Thur, 10am-11:30pm Frid & Sat, Place: Union Square, Cover: $8 adults, $4 children, link More Info (EB)

Really Really Free Market
For some reason free food tastes better, free concerts are more fun, and really really free stuff is really really awesome. This Saturday in Dolores Park people will bring all their leftover possessions they no longer want to give away to broke college students, unemployed investment bankers, adjustable rate mortgage victims, and anyone else down on their luck and in need of some freebies. The Really Really Free Market happens every last Saturday of the month, but the November edition is extra special because it coincides with Buy Nothing Day. I know what I'm thankful for: FREE STUFF! Date: Sat 11/29, Time: 1-5pm, Place: Mission Dolores Park, Cover: no cover, link More Info (EB)

Sketch Tuesdays
For a perfect mid-week interactive diversion, come meet your friends, have a drink and listen to some music, but with an extra dimension: watch 20 artists at work. This event was created by Sacha Ekes in 2008 and will be the 28th of the year. It's a great place to be inspired, watch and interact with fellow artists and buy some cheap, but good art. Also, in the glowing aftermath of Obama's win, check out the 14 foot tall wheat paste "Obama Abraham" by Ron English. I can't think of a more interesting Tuesday, with three reasons to go rolled into one night. Date: Tuesday 11/25, Time: 6-9:30pm, Place: 111 Minna Gallery, Cover: no cover, link More Info (JO)
