SF Shorts
Hello and welcome to Short Attention Span Theatre! Those of you who like your entertainment bite-size, now's your chance to wallow in brevity: the San Francisco International Festival of Short Films has four days chock-full of tiny little movies. Truth is, these films may be brief, but they're often some of the most creative and entertaining you'll see all year. 2008's entries range from animation to music videos, from documentaries to comedies, and include both local and international films. Plus there's an opening happy hour & closing party, both with free beer (closing party also features Har Mar Superstar, the rapping jelly donut, and the festival best-of reel)! Date: Wed-Sun, 8/6-8/9, Time: varies, Place: varies, Cover: $60 festival pass or $5-$15 individual events, link More Info (JH)

The Salon
Check out this new event series, which combines music, dance, live performance and party time! The Salon is hosted by LEVYdance and looks to be one of the coolest new events this season. Two shows a night will feature a host of local performers: dancers, musicians, and even the odd poet! Each artist takes the stage for 5 minutes only: "no costumes, no lights, no fuss. Just raw, risky and fun." After the second show, the stage becomes the dancefloor, DJs Pozibelle and Scott take the wheels, and you get to shake your thing til 2am. It's a great way to support local underground artists and get your drink on too (plus, who doesn't want to dance-party with professional dancers?). Date: Sat 8/9, Time: Shows 8pm & 10pm, dance party 11pm, Place: Studio Gracia, 19 Heron Street, Cover: $10, link More Info (JH)

Get there by 8:30pm to catch Tease-O-Rama's "God Undress America" featuring MC Drunkle Sam and the hottest SF burlesque. And don't forget the best part of all: you can get in for free! Out of all the pretenders, who's got the invisible chops to unite this country under the mantle of Airness? It all comes down to Friday night, and it all comes down to YOU. That's right: whoever's in the Grand Ballroom this Friday will have the once-in-a-yeartime opportunity to elect the next National Air Guitar Champion, who will then go on to represent our glorious nation in the international championship. Competitors are traveling from the four corners of the US to show you their SPAT (Stage Presence, Airness, Technical) skillz. Will you skip the Olympics to take part in this historic event?
