Bastille Day
Every 14th of July, France celebrates the storming of the Bastille and the uprising of the modern French nation against an oppressive upper class. The siege rallied the people against the government and symbolizes the beginning of the French Revolution of 1789. 16th Sreet's beloved house music French hub, Pink, is the "go to place" for the ultimate Bastille Day celebration. Matmos
Performing live tonight are the eclectic and eccentric duo Matmos. In addition to co-producing several of Björk's records and singles, Drew Danial of the group is also a contributing writer for Pitchfork Media. In their recordings and live performances over the last nine years, Matmos have used the sounds of: amplified crayfish nerve tissue, the pages of bibles turning, a bowed five string banjo, slowed down whistles and kisses, water hitting copper plates, the runout groove of a vinyl record, and a five gallon bucket of oatmeal (just to name a few). Audiobus: Human Street Textures
Sound wave surfers, improvisationalists, sonic explorers, get on the bus! In what may be the coolest ride of the year, composer David Graves and sound artist [ruidobello] are taking a busload of avid listeners on a sound tour of San Francisco. As the double-decker bus travels through the city, the artists will record and manipulate live street sounds into an improvised "alternate sonic reality" sure to permanently change the way you think about – and listen to – SF.
