Prepare For The Playa
Only 10 weeks until Burning Man! Are you prepared? Playa living isn't easy whether you're going for the first time or the tenth time, so start getting ready now. The Prepare for the Playa monthly events will connect fellow burners with each other and with the things they need to endure in the desert and have a great burn. Every 3rd Sunday this summer at Café Cocomo from 1pm to 1am, DJs will spin tracks that take you back to Black Rock City while burn-preneurs show off their playa attire on the runway. You can get all the funky gear you'll need and learn about different aspects of playa living (like how to build a shower) at the Playa 'U' how-to clinics. Each event will have an artist benefactor and a percentage of the proceeds will be given to that artist to help bring their art installation to Burning Man. The featured artist for this event is Peter Hudson, maker of the Homouroboros of 2007. There will also be live music by The Zoopy Show and hourly live dance performances for 12 hours of partying to get you prepared for this year's American Dream! Summer of Love 2008
During the first Summer of Love in 1967, thousands migrated to the Haight-Ashbury to participate in the hippie counterculture revolution. The 60s movement helped fight social injustices, environmental degradation, and the Vietnam War. It was a magical time for change, and now 40 years later, we need some of that magic back! Climate Change is real, there are more prisons than ever, children are being left behind, and our country is still engaged in an outrageous and illegal war. Abbie Hoffman said that "The lesson of the sixties is that people who cared enough to do right could change history,” and we can change history in 2008! Come to Mission Dolores Park to reflect on the past, connect with fellow flower children, and get excited about our future. During this pivotal election year, it’s no time to sit back. Get outside and fight for the change you want to see! Date: Sunday, 6/22, Time: 12-6pm, Place: Mission Dolores Park, Cover: no cover, link More Info (EB)
