How Weird Street Faire
Out of all the street fairs, the How Weird Street Fair may be my favorite. Where else can you get a collection of the Bay Area's finest DJs, rockin out over seven city blocks, on separate stages, all to celebrate peace? What originally started as small gathering outside of the World Peace Through Technology Organization headquarters in 2000 to over 10,000 people in 2007, has now found a new home just down the street on Howard between First and New Montgomery.  Nine stages of music, each being an "exercise in peace by collaborations", will feature DJs from Raindance, Sunset, Om Records, Space Cowboys, Opel, Deep End, and others, rockin out with diverse genres of music, showing how music brings different people together to create a common bond. In addition, vendors will be selling all sorts of wares and food, non-profit organizations will educate and inspire, performance artists will dazzle, and thousands of people will show up in colorful costumes to get down in the street. Temple nightclub will become a community action zone during the day, and then at night it and surrounding clubs, Club NV, 111 Minna Gallery and supperclub, will keep the party going into the wee hours. There's nothing like a party to give peace a chance, and How Weird knows how to take the peace to the people. Date: Sunday, 5/4, Time: 11:11am-5:55pm, Place: Howard St, between First and New Montgomery, SF, Cover: $10 donation, $5 in costume. link More Info (JV8)

Thompson." Date: April 24th-May 8th, Place: Sundance Kabuki Theatre, Pacific Film Archive Theatre, Landmark's Clay Theatre, Castro Theatre, Time: check schedule, Cover: varies, link More Info (EB)

SF Cinco de Mayo Festival
In 1862, 70 miles outside Mexico City, underdog Mexican troops defeated the French in a small town called Puebla on May 5th. The victory over foreign oppression at the Battle of Puebla is a day to celebrate patriotism and to remember the fight for freedom. In San Francisco, the Cinco de Mayo Festival this Saturday remembers that battle and celebrates Mexican and Latino culture and history in Mission Dolores Park with mariachi bands, youth bands, great food, Aztec dancing, and artistry. Date: Saturday 5/3, Place: Mission Dolores Park, Time: 10am-5pm, Cover: no cover, link More Info (EB)

WMC 08 - As it was...

Miami 08 WMC: As it was...
Down the Rabbit Hole
Dr. Agatston created the South Beach Diet to help people lose weight. Hmm? After extensive field research in South Beach by our own experts, we discovered the true secrets behind this diet:- 1) No Sleep, 2) Very little food, 3) Lots & lots of Dancing and 4) much mind-altering consumables. If you were on the same diet in Miami, then you understand that it took us a while to recover from the week's worth of music and debauchery known as the Winter Music Conference. Going on it's 23rd year, the WMC has evolved into a clubber's paradise where the world's best DJs gather to show who can rock it hardest. There's no better way to give you an accurate description then to let our pictures do the talking. Our photographers were especially selected due to their finely-honed sense of F.O.M.O. (Fear Of Missing Out). As an upshot, they hit it hard and fast, documenting a record amount of events. We’d like to thank our high-powered camera-toting Delta Force comprised of Damien Miller (Sapient Photography), Bennett Sell-Kline (BSKphoto), Peter Dada (RiseSF), Kevin Sam and our own Sam Khedr for braving the path down the rabbit hole to bring you the most extensive collection of photo coverage for this year’s WMC. So fix yourself a drink, put on your favorite dance mix, turn off the lights, and enjoy the show. (FR) link View All Pictures Here!
