"More Paintings by Damon Soule"
Check out some art. We here at Nitevibe like to get our art on too not just dance 24-7! Damon Soule's style is part comic book characters, part graffiti art and part children's illustration. Many of his characters are machinelike or have something strange about their head - such as a lampshade, fish tank, or birdcage attached. That may be the biggest insight into Damon's inspiration. Don't most artists have something strange going on in their head? The show runs: from now until July 30th. Time: W, T 1-6pm, F, S noon-7pm, Sun. noon-5pm Place: 564 Hayes St. Admission: free, Damon Soule Site , Clothing Line

The Cosmic Butt Kick
Week of June 3rd - 9th

Gemini: With Mercury finally going direct in your sign, your Jedi powers are being amplified. Like Yoda, you could find yourself levitating large objects or racing around in a fashion eerily similar to a Chihuahua on speed. But your access to the Force will be limited, and you won't be able to accomplish all of your goals just yet. Even Master Yoda had to leave some tasks undone. He saved Anakin and Obi-Wan from a grisly demise, but he failed to whoop Jar-Jar's ass. Be patient, and wait for the next movie. Click here for other signs

Minute Melt - We found this site by accident, and it's as insidiously captivating as they come. Not sure if you can call it a vanity site, because it's creator - H. Monday's Pix
[ Mon | Tue | Wed | Thur | Fri | Sat | Sun ] [ View All ]

Event: My People Come First
Venue: Lingba Lounge
DJ's: De la Cruz brothers
Music: house, hip-hop, new soul
Cover: Free
The DLCs spin whatever the hell they want to each week at this mellow tropical style joint in Portrero. Ok, so "whatever the hell they want" is usually on the soulful side whether it be house, hip-hop, club classics or new soul. After all, it's the people that come first.

Event: Tranquility Base
Venue: 26 Mix
DJ's: Jonas, DF Tram, Dagny
Music: downtempo
Cover: Free
Can you guys keep track of all this first Monday, fourth Friday business? It hurts my head. That's why I'm glad Tranquility Bass happens every Monday- nice and reliable downtempo EZ listening. Here's the catch, the "first Monday" they break it down with some cinematic madness for the movie theme night. That would be today. I hope it's Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory -- I love that movie.

Tuesday's Pix
[ Mon | Tue | Wed | Thur | Fri | Sat | Sun ] [ View All ]

Event: Local Heroes
Venue: Border Cantina
DJ's: M3, Anthony Garlic, Chulada
Music: funky house, breaks
Cover: Free
You know one thing I like about this crazy-ass happy hour from 5-10pm? They print the flyers with black ink on thin blue paper, not even cardstock-just like any old taco joint would do for Taco Tuesdays. They're so humble. The difference between here, and any old margarita slanging spot is that there is some great funky house goin' ON by your resident beat hustlers from the Green Gorilla Lounge. Not to mention the $2 tacos, taquitos, $2 domestics, $3 imports and $4 margaritas.

Event: Phuturo
Venue: The Top
DJ's: Abstract, Rando, Presha
Music: drum n' bass
Cover: $5
Phuturo is here to make sure that you get your rumble on in the beginning of the week. I'm talking about some BASS. The good thing about Drum n' Bass is that it snaps you out of your complacency, puts a fire under your ass, makes you want to get up and do something! ( like get up and get another drink!)

Event: Camera Obscura
Venue: 715 Harrison
DJ's: Rick, Amanda Ruin
Music: industrial, goth
Cover: $4 b4 10:30pm, $8 after
Ok here it is the 18+ listing. You asked for it. I feel bad for kids these days- having to wear black and listen to Ministry just to go out. What can I say? Get a FAKE ID! I've had one when I was 13. Don't get me wrong though, this is a super popular night, even older people go. It will be fun - wear white and start the Revolution.

Event: Qool Happy Hour
Venue: 111 Minna
DJ's: Spesh, Mark Musselman, Dano, Austin Gregory, Gil, and Mermaid
Music: progressive house, techno
Cover: $5
This happy hour is more than happy, it's manic. It's truly the king of all electronic happy hours (which are springing up faster than glowsticks at a rave). The place is packed with everyone from ad execs just getting off work to those 5pm partiers just waking up from last night. They all combine into one thumping beat; drinking themselves silly in the name of progressive house.

Event: Seance
Venue: Backflip
DJ's: Franky Boissy, Didje Kelli, Foxxee
Music: house, 2step
Cover: $10
So in addition to the new Resident DJ Foxxee, this edition of spiritual house grooves will be fortified with POETECHtrip, "a deep house exotic journey". Nicole Radmand fronts this project with her sexy French and English vocals. Throw some percussion in the nix by Mike (Mansour) and it's like the 60's all over again except this time around there's more fashionable footwear.

Event: Acid Wash
Venue: Ruby Skye
DJ's: Steve Masters, Ben Doren, Brian Raffi
Music: 80's club classics
Cover: $5
I just thought I'd give you guys a break from the house reviews. So I actually went to this nostalgic rocker night where yuppie types and LA transports reminisce about their mosh pit days. Yes, the DJ did play Judas Priest. He then played a song that I ended up arguing with three people about who the band was. "Once Bitten Twice shy (baby)" Is it Whitesnake? Ratt? Poison? To tell you the truth I can't remember because I was really drunk BUT the point is, there were a few people there really caught up in the debate, and doesn't that just epitomize the whole scene?

Event: Dream
Venue: Cloud 9
DJ's: Paul Hemming and Jeno plus weekly guests
Music: deep house
Cover: $TBA
The Zen City Records crew put on a big party on little Wednesday. They're pretty confident they can make it work and with guests like Jeno rolling through, it does.
Hear impressive guests play deep house every hump day.

This swanky early evening joint at the W starts at 7pm and goes until 1am. A nice little house music experience to get you going for the long haul. Candlelight, visuals, and cocktails could have you skipping that other party though, and heading home with that cutie you met at the bar.

Event: Oxygen
Venue: 111 Minna Gallery
DJ's: David Harness, MFR
Music: house, garage
Cover: $TBA
That supa DJ David Harness graces Oxygen along with Transport Record's MFR.
This monthly always attracts a beautiful pastel loving high-heeled crowd of folks that like to get down. It's also cool because you can strike up a conversation about "art" with the boy your dancing with and see if he has anything interesting to say besides, "Woo-hoo! I love this track."

Event: Square presents That 70's Party
Venue: Ruby Skye
DJ's: David Harness, Superbooty (live)

Cover: $20
M & N along with Delicious Karma are throwing that 70's Party. Superbooty plays live, David Harness broadcasts those soulful house anthems that started the house scene back in the Studio 54 and Paradise Garage Days. People are always throwing 70's theme parties at their house, this is like that on a much much bigger level. Be prepared to dance. You will survive.

Venue: Lingba Lounge
DJ's: Freya, Sifu, Zigmund Void, Audio Angel + Shannon (vocals)

Forties of Old E malt liquor are available at the bar only when the Soul Kitchen is open for business (every Thursday). The resident DJ has recently changed his name to Dusty Crates - isn't that the ultimate porno-style name for a DJ?

Event: Universe Presents Little Louie Vega
Venue: 177 Townsend
DJ's: Little Louie Vega [ Audio: 1 ], Matthew Baker, David Harness
Music: Latin-influenced house
Cover: $20
Universe has been on fire lately-- Hex Hector and now one of the Masters (at Work) Little Louie Vega. When I tried to see MAW in Miami it was the only event I got turned down for. Gilles Peterson had to wait outside for an hour and a half! Little Louie Vega is half of the NYC production duo Masters at Work along with Kenny Dope Gonzalez. These two have made every great house song you have ever loved from back in the day till now. They were influenced by the 70's NYC salsa scene and it comes through in their bangin' house sound. Check out a track from the new MAW album.

Event: Release
Venue: Ten15
DJ's: BT [ Site , Audio: 1, 2 , 3 ], Behrouz, David Coleman and Sen-Sei +
Music: progressive house, house
Cover: $20
I don't like progressive house and I actually like BT. Here is the story: BT has been a major force in pushing the boundaries of electronic music from his early collaborations with Deep Dish in the early 90's, right up to his first Nettwerk release,"Movement in Still Life," released last year and now, with"Rare & Remixed." With pioneering production techniques, BT's initial inklings leaned toward a more atmospheric, celestial brand of progressive house. BT has produced, remixed, or collaborated with the likes of Madonna, Sasha, Tori Amos.

unique brand of intelligent club-house since the late '90s. With a strong background in jazz guitar and love for music in general, Stehelin was inspired by L.A.'s mid-'90s rave
scene and has gained momentum nationally. His music has most recently been released on SF's own Om Records. He has played along side artists such as Mark Farina, Marques Wyatt, Juan Atkins and Chicago's Diz.

No parking on the dance floor! You will get a citation. I don't think we will have to worry about that though because Michael Bennett (AKA Brother Beats) from Sydney Australia is working on three decks to mix a classic deep house sound with some funky breaks and tribal house. Michael also throws live samples and scratching in his mix- a truly creative DJ not to miss. Wonder over to the other room where "Da Joint" will be going off with turntablists J. Rocc, Vinroc and many others. Two separate amazing parties and you only pay $10. That's the deal of the night!

Event: Loveworks Presents the Red Party
Venue: 111 Minna
DJ's: Mauricio Aviles, Matt Valenz

Not for long though because the sexy house sounds of Mauricio Aviles (Naked Music/Transport) is going to melt everyone's troubles away with some sexy house that makes you rise above all that bullshit. This party's theme is red - a color that makes one think of warmth and love or perhaps anger and fire. Nah, I'm not bitter.

The music is amazing, drinks are cheap and strong. The only problem is that you have to be out of there by 10pm or you will get sucked into Solar and Iz's popular house night, Bionic. The party starts all over again.
