Culture Catch Salon
Watching TV with me can be a maddening experience as I’ve got a short attention span and I change channels like crazy. If you’ve got a short attention span like me, but actually manage to get off the couch and make it out of the house, then the Culture Catch Salon at the Metreon should have enough stimuli to keep you from feeling that need to change channels. Thrown together in association with ArtsFest, this event will transform the 4th floor of the Metreon into a “20,000 square-foot multi-media and live cultural experience”, featuring DJs David Starfire, Dragonfly and KnowOne, VJs, interactive video, 3-D art, dancers and live performances by Nyles Lannon, Von Iva, and Z. If this doesn’t keep your attention then you might want to get a prescription for Ritalin. Date: Thursday, 1/18 Time:6pm-Midnight, Place: Metreon, 4th & Mission, Cover: $10 linkMore Cover (JV8)

Over twenty designers will be showcasing their "incendiary creations" with models and some of Oakland 's finest firefighters on the catwalk, while DJ Delachaux provides beats, Mark Growden and Zoe Keating provide live music, and performing artists keep you ooh-ing and aah-ing until the house burns down. Ultimate Reality
Whether you love or hate our bicep bulging Governor, you've got to admit that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a budding cultural icon. Contributing to Arnie's iconic mystique is Dan Deacon and Jimmy Joe Roche's collaborative performance Ultimate Reality, which combines a psychedelic montage of Schwarzenegger classics like Terminator 2 and Total Recall, to an intense musical composition of electronics and drums. The movies are projected at a "monumental" scale, while the 40 minute composition blasts from three sets of loudspeakers and live drummers accompany the action. Whoa. Whatever you think about him, I'm sure this performance will warp any ideas people have about making him president. Date: Thursday, 1/17, Time: 7:30pm, Place: Great American Music Hall, 859 O'Farrell at Polk, Cover: $13-37.95 linkMore Cover (JV8)
