CAPSULE Design Fest
Get into Fall fashion the San Francisco way by checking out the biannual CAPSULE Design Festival, which hosts over 140 clothing and accessory designers, graphic and fine artists, industrial and architectural designers, and others in Hayes Valley. This fest marks the sixth round of this unique SF event and, as always, it will reflect the fresh and funky style the Bay Area is known for. Originality is ensured, as each entrant is “screened for originality and relevancy before being invited to participate” (which is a feat considering 240 new designers have signed up with CAPSULE since the last festival). So come on down and Fall into fashion! Date: Sunday 10/14, Time: 11am-6pm, Place: Hayes Valley Park, Octavia and Hayes Streets, Cover: no cover, linkMore Info. (EK)

Oktoberfest by the Bay
Raise your mugs and click your clogs: it’s Oktoberfest by the Bay, a four-day beer/music/dance/food extravaganza held in the spirit of Munich’s famed festival of the same name. From the delicious German food (bratwurst!) to the beer (Spaten!) to the music (famed Chico Bavarian Band!) to the dancing (Nature Friends Schuhplattler), there were never so many good reasons to get over to Fort Mason. Before you go, a word of warning to the uninitiated: there may be – nay, there will be – men in short shorts and weird embroidered suspenders. They’re called lederhosen. Learn to love them. Date: Thursday 10/11 – Sunday 1/14, Time: varies, check schedule, Place: Fort Mason, Cover: $20/day,

Lit Crawl
Love books? Love drinking? Wish you could combine both more often? Then it’s high time you tried the Litquake pub crawl, a rambling, raucous three-hour tour of the Mission that takes you “from bars and cafes to galleries, laundromats, and even a few bookstores” to see more than 200 authors (and, hopefully, just as many beers). You’ll hear people speak on everything from “food & drugs” to “doorways of perception” – and you can feel free to jump on or off the Lit Crawl at any time, as the tour has many scheduled stops. Get in the true spirit of San Francisco by raising a pint to literature. Date: Saturday 10/13, Time: 6-9pm, Place: the Mission, Cover: no cover, linkMore Info. (EK)

Event: Binary
Venue: 222 Club
DJs: Travis Dalton, Kenneth Scott
Music: minimal techno

You will definitely feel the burn after a double-time workout with this DJ tag team effort from SubCulture/On!Science's Travis Dalton and Kenneth Scott. Digital devices will go through loops for these guys as they churn out deep house and minimal techno, Bay Area-style! While Dalton is definitely more US-downtempo-meets-minimal, Scott enjoys long Berlin-esque walks with his glitchy, fuzzy techno tones. Together they make one electronically melodic DJ duo! (KS)

Here's a little music lesson for us all: dnb, jungle, trance and 2step are all derivatives of dub style, a sound originating out of Jamaica. Instead of playing one of those offshoots, Ras Kush and Black Redemption Sound have made it their business to present dub in its true and original form, allowing audiences to experience the genre as it was meant to be. Even better? Ras Kush is bringing it to Club Six so you to can also experience it. (CQ)

With two DJs named Justin, one of them has to be bringing sexy back! Justin Long, of .dotbleep recordings, has been DJing since he was 15 and helped make Chicago house what it is today, while Justin Martin (from Martin Bros., Dirtybird, and representing Utensil tonight) got his start on pots and pans at the age of two. These DJs have grown up and into edgier tech house cuts, but who's to say they won't bring out the pots and pans again? (KS)

Put some funk in my trance and some progressive in my house (or vice versa). This is the kind of mix that got Taj elected #2 DJ for the 2006 Nitevibe's Dreamteam, made him a 14-year player and two-year resident at 1015, and makes him an international contender. Also on hand is fellow Dreamteamer Dirtyhert, who by remixing downtempo to dance definitely makes sound float like a butterfly and sting like a bee! (KS)
