Folsom Street Fair
It's time to bust out the leather, rubber, latex and fetish wear -- or perhaps nothing at all -- as the Folsom Street Fair is in full swing again. The worlds largest leather event happens again in San Francisco. As always, you can find the kinkiest variety of goods spread out over 4 city blocks. Between the booths, the talent, food and sites to see, this is San Francisco at its finest! Donations at the gates and proceeds from beverage sales will benefit local charities. Bust out your fetishy finest -- you'll have some competition...and I have a feeling you'll like it! Date: Sunday 9/30, Time: 11am - 6pm, Place: SOMA, Cover: $5 suggested donation. More Info(SIN)

SF LoveFest Afterparty
As night falls, the LoveFest parade draws to a close. At that same time, lights go on in Bill Graham Civic Center, preparing for an after party of HUGE proportions. Even after the parade and float performances, you can still attend a party that boasts names like Gabriel & Dresden, John 00 Fleming, Chris Fortier and Donald Glaude - to name just a few. There's also Sasha, who connects with everyone and whose versatility - he might drop some sick breakbeats one day and funky house or progressive the next - makes him a fan favorite. Ferry Corsten, who is one of the pioneers of trance and was featured in a global satellite radio program first, brings his signature sound with a rock and punk twist while Eddie Halliwell crosses the pond to perform his tech trance and hard dance tunes. Date: Saturday 9/29, Time: 9pm-4am, Place: Bill Graham Civic Center, Cover: $65, $75 door. More Info. (CQ)

SF Love - Happy Hour Benefit
To celebrate the city of San Francisco and LoveFest, as well as the release of San Francisco Love, a tribute to our fair city, and over a dozen remixes (all of which benefit the San Francisco AIDS Foundation), Olaris Records and cece blake present the official release party! Featuring funky electro-prog from Royal Sapien, Will Spencer, and very special guests, this event is going to get bumpin' faster than you can say "Let's party!" Plus, when you need a break from the insanity, you can just chill in the front room with downbeats from Frisky Radio. The first 111 guests get CDs as well as free Peroni Beer sampling so start off your LoveFest weekend right – and early! Date: Friday 9/28, Time: 5-9pm, Place: 111 Minna, Cover: $5 donation, More Info. (EK)
Beats for Boobs
This isn't an event to raise money for strippers' kids or a PR stunt by Victoria Secret. Breast Cancer Awareness is going to be celebrated with a fundraiser, 111 Minna style. That means an all-female DJ line-up, a fashion show, live art, people playing acrobatically with fire (come on, that's always cool), drummers and hors d’œuvres. DJs include: Sharon Buck, shOOey, ViaJay, J-Fi, Dory Kim, Calamity Jane and j9. All these ladies reside at infamous DJ tribes on the West Coast and have a long repertoire of gigs playing house, breaks, techno and dnb. Plus, Minna is always a great scene and can really pick the DJs that will keep the party up all night like a fine brazier. Date: Thursday 9/27, Time: 7pm-2am, Place: 111 Minna, Cover: $20, More Info. (RW)
The Love Parade reached worldwide headlines in 1989, ironically, just four months before the Berlin wall came down. Fittingly, the event's founder, DJ Matthias Roeingh, aka, Dr. Mott, held the belief that bringing people together with a common love, in this case, dance music, would make a political statement to the world that peace, unity, and international understanding could be a reality. Simultaneously to the wall falling and the unification of Germany taking place, the annual gathering of revelers began. Since then, the crowd has grown to more than a million people dancing in the streets as they follow floats carrying DJs throughout Berlin, making the city a venue for one big party.
By the early 2000s, the party began to spread to other cities, including San Francisco, Vienna, Mexico City, Tel Aviv, and Cape Town. Because of changes within the organization, the parade has become known under different names around the world. In San Francisco, it's Love Fest. On September 29th, Love Fest, along with its 10s of 1,000s of revelers, will once again take to the streets of San Francisco, and then change hats, becoming a huge party at the Civic Center. Be a part of this procession as it continues to grow to be one of the biggest collections of DJ music and fans in the world. Date: Saturday 9/29, Time: parade kicks off at noon, Place: 2nd and Market St, proceeding up Market to the Civic Center, Cover: tba, More Info (KW)

Instead, these artists use the perfect combination of digital and analog sounds to create a harmonious tapestry of downtempo grooves. Their music sounds so good even the gods are jealous. (EB) |

Paul van Dyk's name is constantly topping charts, selling out international tours, getting nominated for Grammys, and almost permanently engraved in top 100 DJ polls (see his current residency as the world's number one DJ), so it's no surprise his new album, inBetween, already encourages multiple requests for "White Lies" on SF's radio 92.7. Born in Communist East Germany, van Dyk learned early on to break down the wall that differentiates mainstream with underground. The result: we're united under techno-trance. (KS)
