Burning Man, as it was...
Welcome to the surreal and inexplicable mind-bending week of Burning Man 2007 - as it was.... This year, our roving photographer - Bennett Sell-Kline took on the task of capturing in photos what mere words cannot describe. Kick back and relive the memories or wonder why the hell you didn't go. While Black Rock City may geographically be hours away from San Francisco, our two cities are inextricably linked. Another incredible year has passed, and another countdown has begun. Here are the five galleries we have for you: Pink Pussycat | The Deep End | El Circo | The Burn | Tremple of Breaks | Thank Bennett! (SK)

Hubba Hubba Revue
Autumn’s here, which means it’s time once again to honor your alma mater with some good old American football…right? Wrong! Homecoming is out, and getting down with your new alma mater, the Hubba Hubba University, is IN! Shenanigans abound when Professor Kingfish and Special Eddie re-envision the ol’ college days as a burlesque-inspired romp involving bouncing cheerleaders, sexy co-eds, jocks, and nerds, and high-spirited pranks. The Hubba Hubba Review, which raises the roof every third Friday, goes collegiate with help from swingin’ musical guests the New Morty Show, plus Dr. Lukki, the Cock-Ts, Ravenna Black, the Shanghai Pearl, Miss Fountain, R.J. Owens, Gorilla X, Sparkly Devil, the Twilight Vixen Revue and DJs Oran and Miz Margo. Grab your letter sweater and bust out your toga – it’s the first party of the school year! Love Fest 2007
The Love Parade reached worldwide headlines in 1989, ironically, just four months before the Berlin wall came down. Fittingly, the event's founder, DJ Matthias Roeingh, aka, Dr. Mott, held the belief that bringing people together with a common love, in this case, dance music, would make a political statement to the world that peace, unity, and international understanding could be a reality. Simultaneously to the wall falling and the unification of Germany taking place, the annual gathering of revelers began. Since then, the crowd has grown to more than a million people dancing in the streets as they follow floats carrying DJs throughout Berlin, making the city a venue for one big party.

By the early 2000s, the party began to spread to other cities, including San Francisco, Vienna, Mexico City, Tel Aviv, and Cape Town. Because of changes within the organization, the parade has become known under different names around the world. In San Francisco, it's Love Fest. On September 29th, Love Fest, along with its 10s of 1,000s of revelers, will once again take to the streets of San Francisco, and then change hats, becoming a huge party at the Civic Center. Be a part of this procession as it continues to grow to be one of the biggest collections of DJ music and fans in the world. Date: Saturday 9/29, Time: parade kicks off at noon, Place: 2nd and Market St, proceeding up Market to the Civic Center, Cover: tba, linkMore Info (KW)

Event: MF Doom
Venue: The Independent
DJs: MF Doom, Pigeon John
Music: hip-hop
Cover: $28
Having performed under various aliases, it's no surprise that MF Doom wears a mask to conceal his identity while he performs. And though people rarely see his face, it only adds to his supervillain persona. With this in mind, his CDs and sets would hardly be complete without a Fantastic Four cartoon sample, which features the superheroes' arch enemy Dr. Doom, from whom tonight's performer got his name. (CQ)

Event: Soft Target
Venue: 222 Hyde
DJs: David Marks Brian Walls Christine Tocalino

Event: EGGS
Venue: Mighty
DJs: Vert, Freddy McGuire, Torsten Kretchzmar, Pickpocket, Safety Scissors

Cover: $6
If you think you've heard it all before, then come out to Mighty this weekend for an exploration into new territories of electronica. Each artist has a different fusion of genres and styles that venture across the musical spectrum. Vert's crunk/showtune mix is like Singin' in the Rain meets Eminem. Hearing his funky ragtime makes you want to click your heels, but with attitude. Don't miss out on this unique blend, including Freddy McGuire's trippy lounge sounds, and Torsten Kretchzmar's German electro-pop. (EB)

Deep Blue is all about great underground music spun by pros in a comfortable and chill atmosphere. It sounds simple, but not everyone can do it this well: the location is a cross between a warehouse and a large loft, the DJ line-up is a collection of late-night pioneers that have each affected the SF after-hours scene in their own way, and the energy on the dance floor is sure to be palpable. (EK)

Event: Barracuda
Venue: 111 Minna
DJs: The Entity aka Damon, Heiko, Phillie Ocean
Music: rock, dance, '80s
Cover: $5 guest list, $10 door
Even though Heart released the song in 1977, Barracuda seemed an appropriate name for an '80s party at 111 Minna Gallery. The Entity, aka DJ Damon, rocks the muzak and hits from the past that are guaranteed to make you dance like it's 1989. Heiko, a resident of the Beauty Bar, and Phillie Ocean drop the phatty tracks while you watch music videos - from back when MTV still actually played videos - on the big screen. (CQ)

Diplo and Switch, two great DJs in their own right, have joined forces for a North American mini-tour. Despite the drama concerning their contributions to M.I.A.'s albums Arular and Kala, the two seem to be getting along fine—great, in fact. They just finished working on a dancehall album in Jamaica and now they're hitting the club scene together. They're not worrying about the drama and neither should you. Instead, let's worry about getting to the party! (EB)

Venue: Ruby Skye
DJs: Dirty Vegas, Michael Anthony, Friz-B
Music: house
Cover: $15
Most of you probably know the London trio Dirty Vegas from their Grammy-winning song "Days Go By" (which was also in Eclipse commercials). What you don't know is that front-man Steve Smith relocated to Boston and started touring this fall as a talented DJ. The band broke up in 2005, but Smith keeps their name alive, producing new and provocative music. Help Dirty Vegas celebrate his new album This Town, which comes out September 18th. (EB)

He's constantly within the top 10 of the charts and DJ polls, right alongside Nitevibe's #2 Dreamteam DJ, Taj, who himself has 15 years of experience. (KS)

Event: Super Soul Sundayz
Venue: The Endup
DJs: JoJo Torres, David Harness

JoJo Torres, TruSoul resident DJ and master of deep and soulful house, is playing alongside David Harness tonight. Torres' Latin-infused, conga-enhanced sound makes a deeper splash in his always deep house cuts. Harness will be bangin' as always, but remember - it's not a competition when both are dubbed SF local house masterminds. (KS)
