Burning Man
If you ask individual burners what it is that makes them return to the playa year after year, the answers you get could be as diverse and colorful a collection as the "burner" people themselves. However, there is one thing that every burner seems to agree upon and exclaim with conviction to the uninitiated: You must go to Burning Man. So to all of you reading this that haven't yet joined the caravan into the desert, why AREN'T you doing what the cool kids are? Tens of thousands of them will be spending the week building Black Rock City and living in the mecca of art, creativity, and community they have created, only to disappear at week's end, leaving no trace behind and taking a plethora of priceless experiences with them. If you go, you too will experience epic nights and very special sunrises grooving to DJs playing at the very height of their talent. The creative inspiration the playa provides is unparalled, so don't be surprised if the beats and mixes bliss you out more than ever before. Date: Monday 8/27 - Monday 9/3, Place: Black Rock City, NV, Cover: $350 at the gate, More Info (DKD)

Labor Day Weekend Roundup
Hooray for Labor Day! Though you may be tempted to honor your labor by taking a load off and loafing around all weekend long, there's a plethora of holiday weekend events in SF that you should consider treating yourself to. Club 1015 is throwing a weekend massive with top DJ talent taking to the tables both Saturday and Sunday night. On Sunday, join your gay buddies at the fourth annual Harrison Street Fair, where you can spend the day in a laid-back outdoor setting and enjoy performances by comedians Bobaloo and Marga Gomez, and bands Black Market Messiah, Stereo Suite, The Bobbleheads, Mighty Slim Pickins, Ethel Merman Experience, Godseye, and Winsome Griffles. Sunday also brings the Summer of Love Celebration and free concert in Golden Gate Park. Afterwards head to Kelly's Mission Rock for Bob Sinclar and then Cafe Cocomo where Sunset and Stompy will be bringing the party and good house sound to those that are down for some beats and BBQ. Date: Friday 8/31 - Monday 9/2, various times, places, and cover charges. (DKD)
Summer of Love 40th Anniv.
Calling all lovers of peace, creativity, good music, and, um, natural grasses: if you are in or going to San Francisco, make sure to wear some flowers in your hair and amble on down to Golden Gate Park for a free concert marking the 40th anniversary of the much-referenced Summer of Love, those few months of 1967 that saw the sudden and brief convergence of thousands of young people, politics, music, and drugs. To commemorate that important (if fleeting) time, anniversary organizers have assembled a solid who’s who of ‘60s music that will woo the hippie in anyone. If, however, you are not into picnicking in the park, head over to the de Young for “Peter Max and the Summer of Love” (starting August 31st), a collection of psychedelic paintings and posters that will transport you back in time. Free Concert - Date: Sunday, 9/2, Time: 10am – 6pm, Place: Speedway Meadows, Golden Gate Park, Cover: no cover, More Info. (EK)
Endless Strummer
Celebrate and support the legacy of the late Joe Strummer, the iconic and much-missed former lead singer of the Clash. A whole list of bands will pay tribute to the rocker, including the Clash City Rockers from LA, La Plebe, David J, the Odd Numbers, the Hooks, Harrington Saints, the Shakespearos, and the Ferocious Few. The show benefits Strummerville, a charity that “aims to create new opportunities for aspiring musicians.” Loving music as Nitevibers do, that’s a goal we can all get behind, right? Right. Head to Bottom of the Hill for the revelry and, of course, for the music. Date: Saturday, 9/1, Time: 9pm - ?, Place: Bottom of the Hill, Cover: $10, More Info. (EK)
