The Altered Barbie Show
You don't have to like playing with Barbies to enjoy this zany art show. Why? The artists do it for you! ChatterBox International is addressing some heavy concepts – "Is Barbie sacred or profane, chaste or erotic, personal or political?" – by having 75 artists and vendors reinterpret and reassemble the ill-proportioned plastic doll. Besides Barbie, the show also tackles environmental issues: participants will communicate their ideas for saving the planet with a combination of Barbie art and re-usable products that includes mixed-media, painting, printmaking, photography, quilts, video, performance, film, and of course – Barbie dolls! Come to this show to see Barbie, and recycling, in a whole new light. Date: Wednesday 8/1 – Sunday 8/19, Time: varies, check schedule on site, Place: Age Song Gallery (580 Hayes) and Market Street Gallery (1554 Market), Cover: no cover, More Info. (EK)

Biking for a Better World
This Saturday, hop on your bicycle and join Biking for a Better World cyclists Jake, John, Duncan, and Sam for 40 miles of their 16,000
mile charity bike trip from Alaska
to Argentina.
The team has already ridden over 70 days and 3,000 miles of the ride and raised
$12,000 of the $18,000 needed to build a school in Nicaragua.
That may sound like a good chunk, but they still need your support to seal the
deal, so strap on that helmet and pump up those tires! Today’s ride will start
at Point Reyes and continue over the Golden
Gate Bridge,
culminating in a relaxing afternoon at Velo Rouge Cafe, where you can grab a
bite and a brew. Date: Saturday 8/11, Time: 2pm, Place: Point Reyes, Cover: no cover, More Info. (EK)
