SF Pride 2007
The
theme has been chosen, the rainbow flags are up and waving in
the breeze of Market Street, and the celebrity guests and musical
acts are booked. Finally – finally! – it is time for that exultant
salutation to love, inclusiveness, and liberation – the San
Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Celebration.
This annual event has evolved into a grand amalgamation of festival,
march, rite of passage, and national model, with people traveling
from all over to educate, commemorate, celebrate, and liberate.
This year, the aptly-themed “Pride, Not Prejudice” promises to
be as big and bold as ever, with appearances by Hairspray’s
Nikki Blonksky, Styx rocker Chuck
Panozzo, our favorite Queer Eye (for the Straight
Guy) Jai
Rodriguez, and Star Trek’s George Takei, among others. There
will also be performances of or by the San
Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, the
GLIDE Ensemble, CheerSF, Jenna
Riot, Scissors
for Lefty, the Ethel Merman Experience, and many, many more.
With over 200 parade contingents, 300 exhibitors, and 19 stages
and venues, it goes without saying that you’ll hardly be wanting
for something to do. Parade starts 10:30am, Sunday 6/24 at Market
and Beale. Celebration as follows; Date: Saturday
6/23 – Sunday 6/24, Time: Noon – 6pm, Place:
Civic Center, Cover: no cover, More Info. (EK)
